I think it's because the kids get to see their parents as someone other than just their mom or dad... They see the young, cool person their mom/dad was/were. Gives them a different kind of appreciation for their parents and strengthens their bond.

Best thing going is seeing all these moms and dads out there with their children having a great time dancing. What a great imprint on a child's mind to dance with their parents, keep em coming Phil right to Portland, Oregon while you're at it!

Just a iconic jam for dancing. Our local radio would sometimes put their call letters when Johnny would say radio rocking. He did it for them. It made it really fun and personal
