    Great stuff. I have watched several siding videos and this is the only one that explains how to take it to the next level by getting a bat in the middle of the wall.

    Thanks for your videos man. Very helpful. I still don’t see how when rain hits the top part above the window, how the water doesn’t end up getting behind the siding.

      Pound an 18 "- 24" rebar (or use meter box) into the ground even where they're breaks between alum siding as a chimney. Then run a ground wire from the bottom of the siding to the rebar. It's similar to grounding a car engine to the chassis. Alum is a conductor, if not grounded, will cause static - interference. It was a requirement in NJ.

    Hey, nice job on the siding! Quick question: we noticed some buckling in the vertical siding on a new job here in Vermont. Is that typical in areas with wide temperature range? How do you prevent that?

  • @maroonga555

    Looks great. Have you ever installed two types of vertical siding next to each other on the same wall? For example we are installing horizontal siding on the lower half of the wall. On top of the horizontal siding we will install a band board. On top of the band board to the soffit we will install board and batten vertical siding. However, under the width of each window, from the bottom of the window to the band board we want a different type of vertical siding. I was thinking of using a double lineal hung vertically to separate the two types of vertical siding. Your thoughts please.

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  2 роки тому

      I have never done that. I would keep the same vertical siding for the whole project. I hope that helps!

    If you are adding ridgit foam insulation about 1 1/2" thick which will be then covered with furring strips. Furring strips will have long screws going into studs, Can you screw on the siding to those furring strips, or it must be attached with nails, so it can move during hot/cold days?
    Thanks

    Have you ever installed vertical siding like this with walls over 10’ high (the max length of my siding). Do you over lap? Or is there a trim piece used to create a seem? Any recommendations?

  • @ronlaverdiere
    @ronlaverdiere Рік тому +1

    At the 6 minute mark, you nail in the utility trim but the nail goes through the inside-corner piece underneath. Doesn't that mean that the inside-corner is no longer free to move with expansion?

    Have wood board and batten install in the early 90s by a previous owner. Rot in many areas. I've had quotes for siding non with removal old siding and putting up new wrap. Is it ok to side over old wood siding like that?

    Length of wall. Ex. 60’. 60’ / 7” = 102 battens = 59’-6”. 6” remains. 6” + one full batten. 6”+7”= 13”. 13” / 2 = 6 1/2” that would be your starter batten. ???

    you should never end up with less than 1/2 of a board at the end so you can't just center a board on your wall. its like tile you should never end up with less than 1/2 a tile in any part of a room unless you want to.
