The fundamental difference between the West and Russia is that in Russia certain things are held sacred, the metro being one of them. No one would ever think to litter in the metro, much less deface it in any way, and no one has a reason to be vagrant in the metro (it does not operate around the clock, unlike NYC subways). Russians expect their metro to be always beautiful. It's not just a form of mass transit; it's a source of national pride for them, it seems.
There are not many vagrants in Russia. It is very rare to meet homeless people in megacities. There are only a few of them there. Russians do not consider the subway something sacred. They treat it in the same way as airports and train stations. Russian subway is admired mainly by foreign tourists. Sometimes such excessive admiration even causes surprise. After all, many Russians believe that the infrastructure in Europe and the USA is more convenient and beautiful than in Russia.

Hi Russell fellow Aussie here, love your videos. Im wondering if you could do some videos down the furture on the beautiful Russian palaces they have, im a big history fan on royalty in Europe etc.
Yes. Such good idea! There are amazing palaces in Puskino. That's not very far from big cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg. Russel can review local shops too whilst visiting those palaces and perhaps a few restaurants and cafes there.
And what i noticed is that russian metro always want to educate ppl by placing qr codes of free books to read, information about heroes on walls, or even just paintings! I love it and think that this is one of the many reasons why russians are clever. We have wide thinking.

Thank you, Russell, for your amazing tour of the Yekaterinburg metro! As a fan of the Yekaterinburg metro (I even owned a hobbyist website about our metro 20 years ago), I have to say: Wow! This was very educational! You learned so much about our metro in such a short time! Thank you!
Thank you Russel for this video! This is my hometown and Botanicheskaya is my stop! It was very nice to see this place, as if I were there again! Thank you for this opportunity. I hope I'll be back in Yekaterinburg soon and ride its phenomenally beautiful subway. By the way, you could also shoot an interesting video at the “OK” supermarket there. Or in the “Grinwitch” shopping center with the very large and nice “Giperbola” supermarket, have fun!👍🏼🔝
Thank you, Russell, for this lovely video. Lovely cool people, nice looking metro. Follis look nicely and stylish dressed. Have you seen there any homeless crock-head harassing people?
We have turnstiles in New York City, but the street animals just jump them and break that law, at the very least. It is Amazing to see a organized Society that wants to live safely, like we used to in the USA.
About granite and marble and other stones...Yekaterinburg, like the entire Urals, is rich in such minerals.Mining began in the time of Peter the Great.
I was reading about that, when i looked up the different stations. So much of the stone and tile work was amazing to see in person. So many types and colors.
A clean metro system without trash, graffiti, homeless people, and it isn't Moscow or Saint Petersburg (just because of all the ignorant Westerns saying Russia is third world outside the two largest cities). It is interesting that Russian metro trains have kept the old aesthetics. From the outside, it looks like it is an old train. But when you filmed inside, it is clearly a modern carriage. The lights and front of the train also look very new. It looks like they purposely made a decision to keep the box-shaped exterior as a continuation of the old aesthetics.
As a resident of Yekaterinburg, I also have something to complain about regarding the metro. Only one line! It is not enough for a city with a million inhabitants. But the metro itself is very good.
Great to see the Metro I would have used by now. I used to frequent all those stations except for Botanicheskaya / Botanical as it wasn't fully ready at the time. Cheers from Melbourne.

Wow! Watching foreigner's blog about my homecity metro, and i haven't been few years underground. And thanks to you, Russel, it reminds me old university years of my life =)
As someone who lives in Yekaterinburg, i have recently heard this year that they resumed working on the new stations. They were holding it for a very long time. No, i have no idea when it will be done. Also, the other stations you visited were definitely much deeper than the one you entered in, and there were huge escalators with decorations as well, you just didn't film them.
Metro systems here in the US are dirty, covered in graffiti, full of homeless people, and overall dangerous. In New York it’s so bad that people are afraid to ride the subway.

I'm always blown away by how advanced Russia is over America.
I mean, really advanced...
Even back in the day when they built these metros it was ahead of its time.
Not just America, UK also looks backward and rather toxic in comparison. London underground is better than NY I hear, but it cannot compare even to this provincial Russian metro design.

Exactly, for a city with 1 million people its very impressive. They have a really extensive transport network in the city also.
Im from Ekaterinburg, i live this beautiful city, and i used to ride on metro very often after university classes, i loved the smell and beauty of it, it calmed me) and also Ekaterinburg has lots of amazing restaurants and night clubs!

Thanks for the video, dear friend! As always, everything is very clear and accessible.
❤❤❤
It's so good to know that you enjoyed your stay in my hometown. 😊
It was amazing.
Retro lookin trains are awesome, well kept an clean.
There amazing. I am getting it transport more and more.
And what i noticed is that russian metro always want to educate ppl by placing qr codes of free books to read, information about heroes on walls, or even just paintings! I love it and think that this is one of the many reasons why russians are clever. We have wide thinking.
What about free speach?
@@erikstenviken2652 it's ok with free speech. I don't understand what you mean? If you are just a normal person you won't speak about some provocative things, you don't need to. Thank you, Russell, for your amazing tour of the Yekaterinburg metro! As a fan of the Yekaterinburg metro (I even owned a hobbyist website about our metro 20 years ago), I have to say: Wow! This was very educational! You learned so much about our metro in such a short time! Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words about the video. I hope i did it justice showing it in my style of video.
Really nice and interesting
Thank you Russel for this video! This is my hometown and Botanicheskaya is my stop! It was very nice to see this place, as if I were there again! Thank you for this opportunity. I hope I'll be back in Yekaterinburg soon and ride its phenomenally beautiful subway. By the way, you could also shoot an interesting video at the “OK” supermarket there. Or in the “Grinwitch” shopping center with the very large and nice “Giperbola” supermarket, have fun!👍🏼🔝

Yekaterinburg huge wonderful city!!!

It looks like they purposely made a decision to keep the box-shaped exterior as a continuation of the old aesthetics.
i can say that subway in Toronto Canada is terrible - insufficient , slow and has too many technical/ signal issues daily
As a resident of Yekaterinburg, I also have something to complain about regarding the metro. Only one line! It is not enough for a city with a million inhabitants. But the metro itself is very good.
So true! I’m just outside Toronto.
What a pleasant surprise to see our metro in one of your videos. Thanks, Russell
