Honest to god, you're underrated for the content you're able to make out of such an old game. Spore is my childhood and life, and yet it's always amazing to see how skilled people are in this game.
This is literally the PERFECT video for me, I struggle with making things that aren't just average, and inspiration is a struggle as well. I'll certainly be coming back to this video a LOT for future use!
My GF recently got into Spore and she's really liking it ! Its amazing that the game of your childhood, which got you into learning biology and evolution, still holds something new and complex
I only learned about the asymmetry trick just the other day, I have been working on a project where I create evolutionary lines for all of the cell stage creatures, and it's going to be so useful for an idea I have for the megamouth
This is an actual character design guide, holy damn 😀 I always design my things only through playing, so I build them as animals that just happened to evolve a brain, focusing on how they'd fill up the ecosystem slot.... My probably most complex idea was that I gave a species I wanted to be Zealots two heads, as to explain their cultural disunity, which would then lead into an unitifying agressive religion 😂 Or when it comes to clothing and city planning, I evolved penguins in this game just to give them those jetpacks, so they finally can fly too 😂 And their houses were literally just igloos 😅 This is amazing that you showed me that I should think about my creatures as humanoids, thanks!
I miss those damn days where I'd finish a day of school to hop onto Spore! Thanks for a SUPER in-depth guide to making better creations. I bought Spore again a while back but haven't gotten around to installing yet, so down the line I hope I can make some amazing creations using your advice!
I love how these tips are so much about role-playing and making things consistent and themed. Also I've never used the GA adventure editor. I had no idea it was so powerful. Looks like a fun time.
I found out about this game when I was little and was immediately fascinated by it. I hopped in years later but only played modded and offline. These creations and building tips are so awesome! Really makes me want to play Spore again and finally see more of this amazing community.
I just kinda wanted to share a creature I was planning on making once I got home from holiday vacation, but it was going to be black, with long arms and legs, with one of its hands and lower arm being replaced with a saw, and the head and arm kinda looking like they where dead almost, and with eyes that that looked like that of a cold, calculated murder drone. oh, and I was planning on naming it "the remnant"
This video really made me wanna play spore again.. But every time I want to, I'm reminded by the game that I don't have access to any of the online features without going to websites and manually putting them into my game, and it kills a lot of my drive for wanting to play it. Always happy to see more spore content though
Just got back into Spore and stumbled upon this channel. Your passion for this sorely underrated game is infectious. Please keep doing Spode's work sir!
for people wondering, the smallest arm possible that he talked about at some point was a bug arm. It looks like a skeleton and can be found on the holiarm lower part, and to make it as small as he showed you scale all points down as small as possible and scale down the middle part (you scale down by scrolling with your mouse button while your mouse is over a part.)
I’m a lad who either makes the silliest goofiest creatures you’ll ever see or the terrors that keep you up at night but this is gonna be extremely helpful too. Cheers!
Wow this video is genuinely amazing! Absolutely adore these tips! Thanks for sharing them with us :) Your channel seems super underrated, hope to see you grow because you genuinely seem like a great content creator.
I played this game when I was going through puberty. You will indeed learn some of these tricks over time but ironically enough the advises you gave about the creature and building editors were the most usefull for me. I just miss the days finding channels like these, some random person who explains and explores everything about a game and responding to youtube comments. I think there were some issues with making connection with the servers when you bought the game on Steam which has something to do with the activation key. That is the reason why I have not touched the game for a long time. In the previous video about Spore you were on a Discord server with the remaining playerbase of the game? That seems absolutely crazy to me that such an old game still has such an active playerbase. Some of these players like Parkaboy and Fotosynthesis really became famous with the time they spent in the editors teaching us things about the editors we did not knew were possible. I hope to see some more video material about Spore from you in the future.
Good to hear you enjoyed it! If you want, there are instructions on the spore subreddit for connecting to the spore servers through the steam version of the game. And if you do manage to get back online there are multiple Spore discords set up! I’m currently in a contest in the Sporechives discord, hoping I get to the finals 👍🏼
wonderful video, it's great to see someone passing on all the ancient Spore Arts to a new generation! i loved seeing a little glimpse of one of my adventures at 27:48 haha
thanks so much! i remember it being a very fun adventure to make, i'm hoping to finally finish up the sort-of follow up adventure i made to it sometime soon!
Man, I’ve always struggled with buildings and vehicles in spore despite the fact that I’ve played it so much since release. I’ve always just avoided making anything. This video was a massive help and has motivated me like crazy! It’s a fantastic video! Fantastic job! This game is a gem.
I VERY recently discovered 4 things about the painting editors I didn't knew while making the buildings for my new playthrough... if you hold click over a color it will expand to let you choose between several tones (which made curse when I found black and white there which I always struggled to get 😅). If you hold Alt you get the drop tool to get paint texture and color from a part so you don't have to search what you used previously. If you hold Shift you paint the whole piece instead of just a part of it (like painting the glass on a window) and if you hold Ctrl you paint every copy of the part you have (Ctrl+Shift will paint all whole copies of the piece). Maybe it's common knowledge and/or part of the "editor's manual" which I honestly didn't take the the time to read but since it's a video about editors I thought it might be helpful for someone else out there. 😉
Wow. It was so helpful. I returned to Spore as a light from my childhood. I wanted to remind myself of my way of thinking and creating things as a child. And you helped me a lot with these tips, thank you.
16:45 I think the parts are asymmetric because making parts asymmetrical gives you more complexity. Great video too! Taught me lots of things that aided me in improving my Spore skills!
Learned all these traits and made a super cool alien with cybernetic parts that I'm really proud of only to realise that there was no way I could actually play as them without a bunch of cheating or resigning myself to being a wanderer. Rats.
All of my creations wind up being birds... but I did use them as the basis for my ever-growing DnD universe. It's quite extensive, and I love the creators with all my heart. Something I do, I flip the spine upside down, just to make the size for the bellied/head based correct. And, using the asymmetrical system for the legs is awesome, just to give the creatures different stances. I love this game.
I’m so happy someone made this. It is amazing that someone is still passionate about spore, especially GA. I do have a question, though. How do you make text on buildings? I tried so hard to do this and it’s been pretty tricky, especially if I am doing thinner fonts.
For thinner fonts, the best way that I know is to use the cylindrical detail pieces and sink them into the walls so that only a sliver of the cylinder is showing. If you’re going really small you can use the donut detail pieces for things like R’s, B’s, P’s etc. if you can make it work with your design, it’s a million times easier to do all of that on a flat board instead of a curved wall.
this is one of the videos ever that blow my mind like crazy. i dont even know what to say, this is just amazing! all the creature and outfit tricks, the creations of you showed, the adventures, the special cutscenes around 25:00, all that is unbelievable to me... wow.
Love this video!! I've been playing Spore since I was a kid and have been avoiding focusing on outfitting for so long just because it felt so cumbersome to use the editor to make something that looks okay By my standards, but these tips should help heaps and maybe I'll start exploring these aspects more now!
For those using spore before the 5.1 patch, unfortunately there is no way to do the technique with the screw, however, it can be done with any one of the hats in the tribal, civilization, or space creators. Also there is no way to use asymmetry in earlier versions. :') (Though there maaaaybe a mod that allows that idk)
Wow, I am so grateful for your knowledge. Spore is one of my favorite games out there. I love seeing the videos, more recent ones, talking about Spore.
This is an amazing video, I always look back at this while playing spore. I got back into the game recently and started playing again, with this insectoid-centaur species called the Scorab (they are a bit in the red in terms of complexity lol). I came up with the idea that their exoskeletons can be removed to create weapons and tools, resulting in a reactionary and socially loyal society. I’m designing their buildings and vehicles to look like parts are made from their armor. Out of curiosity, do you have any tips on specific buildings like with entertainment?
this is such an amazing video, wow. it just reignited my need to play spore, and I didn't realize how cool the galactic adventures are!! I'm gonna have to buy the dlc and try some of the stuff you said
I saw you posted this years ago, but I am surprised to see you are still answering replies, I have some questions that I couldn't get answer by any search, so I would really appreciate if you could answer them for me. ❤️ 1. Although I'm pretty sure this sadly isn't a feature, is there any way to load a custom creature into an already existing game, and no I'm not talking about a new game while using that one cheat (forgot the name), but loading a creature into an already existing game, because I find it annoying how I have all the parts but the game doesn't allow me to just load a saved creature, the only work around I found to this was using cheats to start a new game with saved creature and then using more cheats to give the precursor abilities, but this just made my game crash randomly, especially when I opened my sporepedia. 2. I know some Maxis made adventures only appear with certain archetypes, is there a way to do this with my custom adventures? Since I know you can add the tag GAprop to buildings which will stop them from being polinated in games, I was wondering if you could add a similar tag to the adventures themselves to limit which archetypes they appear for, or is that what the type option box does when naming the adventure? 3. I haven't got too far with my captain and was wondering how the gear worked, I searched the wiki and it said that you can only get 10 pieces of captain different gear, does that mean I can only get two of the extra spaceship mode abilities from the gear or can I get more gear and/or spaceship abilities? 4. I am planning on maxing out my captain's social, should I go diplomat gear or bard? And what's the difference between them? 5. My brother maxed out his creature's complexity limit while in creature stage, when he got to tribal he was disappointed he could only fit 5 or so pieces of gear on his dragon god, he went to the main menu to see how much he can put on his captain loadout and could only get 3 pieces of glowing gear on his dragon, he restarted now. So (sorry for the exposition) would you say having a more complex creature or a complex captain suit would be better, when looking from the galatic adventure point of view? Are the galatic adventures abilities just flat out better than the creature's? Thanks for reading all of this, I hope someone has the answer to these. EDIT: After re-watching the video I realized you kind of answer question 4, but say if I preferred the look of the creature attacks are they worse than the galatic adventure attacks, and although you said not to use the bard pieces I still might because I love how they look, and also my creature is a little odd since I'm playing as a dog with no arms, so I really want pose.
I don't know most of it. Thank you so much! For me it is hard to find cool adventures or creatures. Thank you for showing cool creators and interesting details they made in creatures and adventures. Bought the SPORE because of your recomendation not long ago :D
At some point I tried to make a master of all trades race, but now I usually make a VERY aggressive race that is so sadly lacking in social skills its amusing, so it's a 4 legs 2 armed boy with two arms and a scorpion like tail. With 5 on all combat stats but a one or 2 on all social stats 😂
Making GA adventures is a topic unto itself. One thing I would say, don't softlock weaker creatures or make OP abilities like sneak or spit so broken they can cheese the whole adventure.
I really don't like how they made sneak of any level act the same as invisibility. I wish it worked the same as in creature stage. I dislike that I have to get equipment that I don't want to use on my captain. And I heard that there is a very short max level that I can only unlock 8 or 10 equipments.
The last adventure just blows my mind! I know it's really hard to predict the camera behavior on some objects in adventures. This game is still able to surprise me after so many years. So amazing! Also, I have a question. Why do we need a room's interior to be a single structure? Wouldn't be better to make all interior objects masked doors for example? And lastly. Did you know that there is a trick in the adventure editor that allows you to go beyond the planet, get to the sun and dive into deep space? If you are interested, you can check the video "Spore: Galactic Adventures - Teleport to the Sun" by Mysterious Creator on UA-cam. This is my second channel. I'm not posting the link, because UA-cam may ban it.
I’ll check that out! The reasoning behind consolidating interiors is to save space in the gameplay objects tab. You’ve only got six pages and if you’re using 10+ objects on one interior it’s going to fill up real quick.
I’m gonna be honest, ea would ruin it. It would be half assed and just profit off nostalgia. If you really want a spore 2, check out fangames like Elysian eclipse
Woooaghhh… Ok I always knew that spore had nearly infinite possibilities but this video has really opened my eyes to how much more can really be achieved.
Those are some awesome tips! I've recently started playing Spore again since I enjoyed it so much as a kid and seeing those tips are very nice and gives me some creative ideas!
These creators really are the epitome of "trust the process", so many creations suddenly turn from ugly blobs someone made on their first time in Blender, to masterpieces when the final details are added I've seen creatures be shared that used WAY more than the maximum complexity, despite cheats usually making them unshareable. I always wondered how they did that
Ctrl+shift+c to open cheats, then type “freedom” to to disable the complexity limit somewhat. You have to do another step to get it to share correctly but I can’t remember what it is off of the top of my head.
Haven’t played Spore in years but seeing this video and your last spore video talking about Galactic Adventures was very nostalgic. Thanks for these. Might decide to play this again soon since I didn’t know the community’s still alive lol. 🤙 Would be helpful if you made a video on your top creators on spore to subscribe to for inspiration or to see their creations/adventures. Theres some spore creators you mention in these videos that i wasn’t even aware of and their creations were really awesome to see. Great stuff, subbed to your channel. 🛸
I found out if you move a spaceship in the spaceship editor upwards you somehow have more space, which is good for making longer or bigger spaceships. I don't know why that is though.
8:19 shows how I made my little floating ball creatures. I needed the little nub spine segment beneath the body as the point for the invisible legs to attach. When I outfitted them I covered the nub with some discs to sort of hide the nub. If you want to take it apart, you can find it here www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-DoxNotch%7C500978037856%3Asast-501097692397%3Apg-20

That’s so good to hear! I hope you’ve been enjoying it.
Very nice compellation of tips and trick. (And it is "He / him".)
Glad you enjoyed it! And I thought so, just felt bad for assuming.
Absolutely incredible video! Perfect guide to follow and keep in mind for my replay of one of my favorite childhood games.
Thanks for the advice now I’m able to make more cooler things in spore
i dont know why you do so much content on spore, but i love it
At some point I tried to make a master of all trades race, but now I usually make a VERY aggressive race that is so sadly lacking in social skills its amusing, so it's a 4 legs 2 armed boy with two arms and a scorpion like tail.
Let's go spore is like the best game btw love your cool alien designs
Playing the game since I was a kid
Yet I always ended up with a humanoid herbivore
And a scorpion like carnivore
And to this day I still do this
The last adventure just blows my mind!
@@doxnotch3029 Oh, now I see! Got it. Thank you for the explanation.
It's WILD we haven't gotten Spore sequel yet, screw EA for not giving us another Spore 😢
Best spore video i've ever seen. I'm 100% up to hearing you talk about creating things on spore for hours lol
Those are some awesome tips! I've recently started playing Spore again since I enjoyed it so much as a kid and seeing those tips are very nice and gives me some creative ideas!
I just leave my comment here to support the Spore community.
spore was my childhood game and i loved this video, thank you :)
so like, whats with the big "NO ASS" sign in that adventure level
@@Aluminum.K it’s a protest sign against the Alliance of Sentient Species! Keeps getting misconstrued for some reason..
@@doxnotch3029 I assume it was put up by the Builders of Unified Transgalactic Travel
You are so underrated I love this video you out done yourself! Keep making videos!!😀😀😀😀😀
I absolutely love this game
Amazing video, perfectly set out!!! I’ve always struggled with making ships so this is great. And Until The Last One Falls is amazing!!
Oh my! Your SPORE is totally different. (amazing stuff!)
These creators really are the epitome of "trust the process", so many creations suddenly turn from ugly blobs someone made on their first time in Blender, to masterpieces when the final details are added
I've seen creatures be shared that used WAY more than the maximum complexity, despite cheats usually making them unshareable. I always wondered how they did that
Ctrl+shift+c to open cheats, then type “freedom” to to disable the complexity limit somewhat. You have to do another step to get it to share correctly but I can’t remember what it is off of the top of my head.
Amazing video it really helped me one question though i saw you got texts on the boards can i please know how you did that it would help me out alot
Usually it's just small colored miscelenious pieces of buildings.
0:00 I have heard this hi so many times.
I wish Griffin and Justin from Polygon would watch this video and others like it so we could get a sequel to their Monster Factory series about Spore!
Ive been playing spore since release but im only just now getting started at advanced creation techniques. This video helps so much. Thanks. Sub
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much!
Haven’t played Spore in years but seeing this video and your last spore video talking about Galactic Adventures was very nostalgic. Thanks for these. Might decide to play this again soon since I didn’t know the community’s still alive lol. 🤙
Would be helpful if you made a video on your top creators on spore to subscribe to for inspiration or to see their creations/adventures. Theres some spore creators you mention in these videos that i wasn’t even aware of and their creations were really awesome to see.
Great stuff, subbed to your channel. 🛸
Actually I used Cannon/Rifle pose technique. Still good af
I found out if you move a spaceship in the spaceship editor upwards you somehow have more space, which is good for making longer or bigger spaceships. I don't know why that is though.
oh goodness gracious Thank you for the Floating creature advice, is there any way to make a 2 spine egg float with invisible limbs?
8:19 shows how I made my little floating ball creatures. I needed the little nub spine segment beneath the body as the point for the invisible legs to attach. When I outfitted them I covered the nub with some discs to sort of hide the nub. If you want to take it apart, you can find it here www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-DoxNotch%7C500978037856%3Asast-501097692397%3Apg-20
Great video! it helped me a ton!
My man just gained a new subscriber
Yo you gotta a great channel name and you’re really easy to follow with catchy commentary. Your channel should have way more subs. Sorry UA-cam has a sucky algo.
Man, now I really want to play Spore agian.
Do it if you can! It’s always fun to have more folks around!
I was NOT ready to see the vehicles section open up with Obama
There is so much I never knew. Great creations and Thanks for the video!
Insanely good video, damn.
12 years is rookie numbers.
i was there at launch day. i had a cowbox that ran the game at a solid 15fps at 1024x768 on minimum settings.
wonderful video! thank you.
sup! wonderful video, but the spore discord link seems to have expired. is the server still up and running? i’d be interested in joining!
you have an insanely low sub count for how high quality your videos are damn
Thank you! I’m sure I could boost that sub count a bit if I uploaded more frequently lol. Such is life.
