I used to live in Historic Herndon and work all over Virginia , and most days I'd skirt the toll road by driving through the airport . I'd stop at the Gas station in the airport complex and get coffee and a copy of the Washington Post , and most importantly a receipt , and then use the airport access road to get to 495 . Not only did it save me 50 cents everyday , it saved me at least 20 minutes of sitting in traffic . The receipt was in case you got pulled over to prove that you had business in the airport , so you couldn't be written a ticket for using this road illegally . I also accidently went threw the cruise lane without a pass once on the toll road because I couldn't get over into the lanes where they collect tolls , and I kept waiting for a ticket to come in the mail , but it never did . Then I read in the Washington Post that the cameras in place to catch people using the cruise lane without a pass didn't work , so basically they were just for show . I worked at Dulles Airport for almost 3 years on the expansion of the main terminal , which doubled it in size when we were finished , and I lived in Chantilly at the time .
Awesome drive along VA 267 West
Thanks 👍
Nice! Awesome drive. I like that it separates airport traffic from local traffic. Limits backups!

I found that also,
even if you are not going to the airport but past it (up or down Route 28 (14:25) ),
if you take the "expressway" to the airport, ( 4:00 ) you will not have to pay the toll at the toll gate,
which will speed up your travel time, especially during the big rush home.
I live in Loudoun County and the Dulles Greenway is loathed by most locals. It's a privately owned, for-profit road and mile for mile one is of the most expensive in the country. The tolls are a flat rate (not distance based), so even if you're going just a mile or two, it'll cost you about $6.
Yeah I was stunned when I saw the price. No wonder it was so empty.
@@MileageMikeTravels, there's enough history and material here to do an entire video on just this little stretch of highway. The company that owns it is ruthless. They're constantly battling with local politicians over the annual, automatic toll increases.
Interesting. Why is it privately owned. I assumed all roads and highways were public utilities.
🛣 lovely drive ❕
Thank you 👍
Nice ride on VA-267 west the dulles tollway
Sure is!
@@MileageMikeTravels Do Virginia routes mark the word "toll"?
👍👍
👏👍
Just an FYI none of the Dulles Toll Road is in Fairfax, VA. Fairfax, VA is a separate jurisdiction from Fairfax County, VA which is where most of the Dulles Toll Road is located. The Greenway is totally in Loudoun County.
I despise 95n from Richmond to Dulles so much that I get off at 234/dumfries & drive to 28, then the drive on 267 is basically an exit ramp to the airport
I forget, do you take the toll road out to the Smithsonian out in VA?
Yes, it's on the grounds of Dulles Airport, located on State Route 28.
@@gr8deadfan75 Yep - I just didn’t remember taking the toll road out to it. I may have taken 50 - Lord knows why 😂😂
@@gr8deadfan75 That's where they have the Enola Gay, a Blackbird, a Concorde, and one of the Space Shuttles.
(as well as lots and lots of small aircraft and other things)
The ridiculously named Udar-Hazy Museum is just as interesting as the downtown Air and Space Museum,
and easier to travel to, and not nearly as crowded.
We are going to have a great weekend at the airport Richmond Virginia is going coming call you soon please letting Petersburg Virginia
OMG I got sticker shock reading those toll rates for the Dulles Greenway at 15:27. They must've raised their rates _again_ . It had to have cost you over $10 driving VA-267 in its entirety.
That was definitely my first and last time driving it lol
@@MileageMikeTravels As several people have been mentioning in the comments -----
take the airport express lanes to avoid paying the $3 toll,
take the first airport road exit and u-turn before heading into the main terminal,
then take route 28 north up to route 7 to avoid the $7 toll.
You won't see a street light until you are just ten miles from Leesburg,
and you won't pay a dime.
More than private publicly funded publicly private private publicly roads
Too many carpetbaggers moving into Virginia contribute to rude drivers and congestion.
Yeah, all the conservatives need to go back to Alabama
