    Thank you so much for this series!!
    I just received an MZ-50 as my first analog SLR, but both the pop-up flash and the mirror motor are broken. I knew about these problems before and didn't spend much on it, so I am not super disappointed (it was more like a gamble to see if I get a good deal) but was considering a repair myself. I work with micro electronics for a living, so I was rather optimistic, but the disassembly looks like a major PITA. I think I'll not attempt it, but use the camera as decoration instead. Bought a Minolta to use anyway.
    I am looking forward to more of your content, fascinating stuff!

    Very nice series. I would really like your take on ME and ME super. There are few videos on YT on disassembly, but not well presented and meticulous like yours. Keep up good work, cheers 👍👍👍

      Yeah, I would like to do a series on an ME Super eventually. It's a common camera with known issues but also very fixable.

    I really love your videos and this playlist made me buy some MZ-5 and MZ 3 with the flash unit is not popping up and I was going crazy when you told dat you have this webpage with free drawings from parts and also that people can leave a comment and you will answer to help with the repair, that is really so nice and friendly.
    Respect !
    I ordered yesterday a ESD mat like you have 😇

    That was really cool, thank you, just slammed through this series (and I don't own a Pentax SLR).

    That was an amazing series of vids, detailing all the disassembly and inner workings of the gearing and motors. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload these!
    Quick question, can focusing screens from an MZ-3 fit into an MZ-S? That would also mean a MZ-M split-image would fit into the MZ-S, that would be pretty rad.

      Hey, glad you like it! I've always read that the screens are incompatible but I just measured a couple that I have. They are both 24.7 x 35 mm. The MZ-3/M screen is 1.15 mm thick and the MZ-S screen is 1.33 mm thick. So I'm going to go with maybe? It may just be a matter of shimming the screen to the correct distance but it would take some trial and error. Time to experiment, I guess.

      @@SamsCameraBench aah interesting on the measurements, thats good to know. Would love to hear how it goes if you get a chance to experiment with swapping+shimming screens it into an MZ-S some day

    Do you do refurbs. I just bought a “Mint” Tested MZ-5. I so regret selling my ME Super 12 years ago. I shoot professionally part time, and clients are starting to ask for film images again. Luckily I kept all of my other Pentax kit because they were compatible with my K5 and K3mkII when I moved to Sony. Even though this camera is supposed to work, it will be my only film camera for a while. I have 10 different camera bodies right now, and I am running out of space. I wouldn’t want to be depending on the MZ-5 for a client, only to have one of the gears or pivot levers to give out. Additionally having the camera serviced and cleaned is probably a good idea. I also would love to add the split prism.

    Hey, this repair was completed and i’m having an issue where the camera takes 3 pictures no matter what. Any idea what may cause this?

    • @SamsCameraBench
      @SamsCameraBench  3 місяці тому +1

      Is the camera stuck in bracketing mode? Check the left side dial and make sure you can switch between all the shooting modes correctly. If not, take the top cover of and check the feeler contacts. It's easy for them to get misshapen.

    Where did you get the brass gear?

    • @SamsCameraBench
      @SamsCameraBench  4 місяці тому

      In the past I have ordered from a shop in Poland (www.mikroantriebe.de/), but their web shop seems to be down at the moment. Not sure if that is temporary or long term. You can find the specs for the gear on iFixit (www.ifixit.com/Item/Mirror_Motor_Gear). There are a lot of shops that will make gears to standard specs, you'll just have to find one that will make them in this size.

    When install mirror box it is little bit different step from Pentax MZ-S?

    • @SamsCameraBench
      @SamsCameraBench  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, a little. You can't charge the shutter on the MZ-S. It'll just release as soon as you let go of it. The shutter charge lever on the mirror box should still be down, but the mirror goes in the up position.
