What's your favorite animation studio and why?
Any studio in Japan
Either Dreamworks or Blue Sky. They both have a really consistent level of quality, with dreamworks they have always gone back and forth between masterpieces like Panda, Shrek, and Dragons, and trash like Shark Tale, and all the other ones I haven’t bothered to watch. Blue Sky on the other hand has never really made an outstanding film, the only one that ever really made a name for itself was Ice Age, but their films have never been particularly bad, just unremarkable.
Just compare those studios to Disney who’s quality seems to go in waves, from the golden age to the dark ages, back to the renaissance and to now, or to Pixar which used to make great films but has massively dropped off in recent years, or of course Illumination which makes actual garbage instead of movies.
P.S. If you want to farm A video idea you could talk about Disney’s copy and paste character problem. (As in Rapunzel, Anna, Moana, Mirabelle, and probably the girl from Wish all being the exact same person.
Spirit the stallion of the cimmaron had a great soundtrack too from what I remember…..also by Dreamworks Animation.

The battle between Shifu and Tai Lung, even to this day, 15 years later, is still one of the most goosebumb-inducing and heartwrenching scenes in a film I've ever seen, especially that line from Tai Lung and the sheer rage in his voice.
And on top of that, you actually see a hint of sadness when Shifu finally does take the blame, there's like 2 seconds of Tai Lung realizing Shifi did care, but it years, even decades too late..
After filmds like Prince of Egypt, Kung Fu Panda, Puss and Boots 2 and How to Train your Dragon, Dreamworks has set the bar high, hopefully they can keep meeting it unlike Disney.

@@gregowen2022Ruby Gilman was bad but DW has made lots of horrible films, remember Shark Tale? But their bad films are more evenly distributed so they have never had a dark age like Disney has.

Megamind is just simply not to the same level as Kung fu panda how to teain your dragon and prince of egypt
Megamind is a less serious and more goofy film, but I’d say it’s at least on the same level as How to Train your Dragon.
Maybe it’s because I love Megamind and see it as an underrated gem or maybe you like HTTYD more than I did. Idk.
Actually, considering Kung Fu Panda is being brought up, it’s clear that goofiness and depth of themes are not mutually exclusive aspects.

@@incendiumaquila7605 I disagree, absolutely. Megamind is actually a much more sophsticated story with many more ethcial issues to deal with than KFP. KFP is a fun story, but it has no real depth to it, it's pretty simplified and doesn't actually explain why Tai Lung became "evil" if he had never shown any of these tendencies before. But with Megamind, when Hal becomes Tighten, his descent from "nice guy neckbeard" to villain makes perfect sense.
Tai Lung IMO is one the most depressingly relatable villains for anybody who was raised under high standards for success.
Raised that way myself, I’d day high standards are good. They just need to be realistic and fulfillable.
@@John-fk2kyunfortunately, a lot of parents that expect a lot from their kids don’t see them as individuals, but as an extension of themselves, or as a reflection of their own success. If they don’t accomplish what “they’re supposed to”, they aren’t worth all that much anymore, even if they are their kid.

Reasons are not excuses. Characters need reasons for doing things, or even if it's petty and spiteful. These are not excuses. A favorite scenario I like is showing the villain is reacting to negative experiences in a way that is wrong and unhealthy, especially contrasted to a hero who has gone through a very similar, sometimes even exactly the same, thing who reacts in the right, often healthier, way.
Isn't that ultimately the point in The Killing Joke regarding how both the Joker and Batman came to a key moment in their lives and, while the Joker saw only one choice to make, Batman saw a crossroads?
@@613harbinger316I would say so yeah. Joker posits that "one bad day" can make anybody go insane. Batman has to fight that premise as he sometimes rides the line between insanity, and growing stronger from adversity.
Though because of that, I wouldn't call it a crossroads as much as a *tightrope.* Bruce isn't on the right road permanently because he made the better decision once, he has to keep on the straight and narrow so as not to fall.
After all, "madness is like gravity. All it takes is a little, *push."*
Tai Lung has the best introduction in whole Kungfu Panda series.. His jail escape is a great scene and good example of "You often meet destiny on the road you take to avoid it."

Megamind in my opinion is a beloved movie that is still under appreciated. That movie is excellent in every way. It also fits your theme of negative expectation where both he and metroman want to change but can’t because of society
God, that Puss in Boots film was the most out of nowhere great film I've ever seen.
And I can't believe it was the same director as the croods 2. I watched the first movie and it was funny, intense, and emotional. But when I've seen the second movie, I was like "what the heck happened?" lmao. Puss in Boots the last wish didn't have to go that hard but I'm glad they did
Hiccup for me was the best one. The amount of expectations put on him to become Chief, to become physically strong was one that he always wanted to but literally can't become. At least not until he acknowledges that he doesn't have to be that specific person, but instead become his own true self that relishes in leading and carving out his own path. The heart of a chief, and the soul of a dragon.
6:59 Honestly I think the main reason he wanted it was well...a sense of relief. He said it himself he trained until his broke cracked, spent decades enduring immense pain and hardship, all because he'd been told all his life he was destined to be the Dragon Warrior. It was literally the only thing he saw his life was meant for, so for it to be taken away, all that work, all that struggle, all that pain, to basically be told it was meaningless. Can you even imagine the rage that would cause?
Funny enough, I just recently watched every single Kung Fu Panda movie, and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of these movies. Even the 3rd one. The themes are expertly executed, and that’s just kung fu panda. Dreamworks is my favorite animation company.
They really are amazing. People point out their flops, but the batting average for DreamWorks is still all-star level. Can’t wait to see where they go with Kung Fu Panda 4!
Well that's Hans Zimmer for you. I'm a bit afraid about Kung Fu Panda 4 though....the trilogy had a perfect ending
I just wanted to say I am really grateful for the effort and thought you put into these, Dreamworks especially is a great example of how to do storytelling right. One thing that stood out to me is that, while the writers said they wanted to make a funny film they were VERY careful not to mock or make fun out of the philosophy and the spiritual elements, whereas if you look at Disney, especially their Marvel and Star Wars films, they do this WAY too much. (Remember the "hilarious" ThAt'S nOt HoW tHe FoRcE wOrKs scene from Force Awakens?). Also, Death in Puss in Boots is another perfect example of this: while they make light of a lot of things, the MOMENT Death comes on screen all the light-heartedness switches off in a moment, which makes him even more scary than if he were in a more "serious" film.
Your video on "hyper reality" really fit together a lot of disprate ideas that I've had ever since watching lectures from the 1960's by "Marshall McLuhan". It also shows why people really have to get back to the original versions of mythology; people who wrote mythology were doing so as a response to real life, rather than as a way of recontextualising and endless series of fictional narratives. It reminds me of a photo being photocopied so many times that it loses all coherency and just because a garbled mess that doesn't relate at all to the real world. Basically, the secret is that Hollywood Writers need to go out and touch grass.
Not just writers, but producers as well they have just as much (if not more) to blame than writers at times.

This is quite fitting after the Flop of Ruby Gillman. We had high expectations for Dreamworks, especially after the Bad Guys and The Last Wish. We even thought there would be a Dreamworks Renaissance. Instead we got a movie that was painfully average. Full of cliches, outdated tropes, and a twist villain that wasn’t even a twist. Wasted potential. New lore, new characters, and themes that are never actually expanded upon.
The trailer little revealed the entire movie. So any thing that actually was interesting about the movie was nullified by the trailer. And then they released another shitty trolls movie.
Sinbad has a little more to it than you gave it credit for. As for Sinbad himself, he explains that he basically became a pirate after realizing, through um, the girl that joined him, that he lived in a whole different world from his best friend, who was a prince, because he loved the girl, but she was meant to marry his best friend, so he left. Upon meeting again, Evil Goddess girl there, offers Sinbad wealth and the like for the book of peace, yes, thinking he'll take it, and he plans to, but upon seeing his love interest, he decides against it, only for the Evil bitch to steal the book and unfold her main plan, his best friend uses a substitution plea for Sinbad to go after the book, and that was her plan, she figured Sinbad would run, and then with the prince executed, and the book of peace missing, it would send the world into Chaos and cause wars, apparently the Book of Peace was holding the world governments together lol. And in defense of Sinbad, he WAS going to let his friend die, it was only after he was bribed that he went on the journey for the book, and then of course he caught feelings, so mainly for her, he decided to go back to die, because he knew he wouldn't be a good man for her or anyone if he let his friend die, but initially, he was just going to F off to Fiji lol.
Sinbad has some pacing issues, but it's still a great show with some really great 2D animation sequences and solid writing. I wish we'd have seen Proteus and Sinbad in another adventure.
I remember as an angsty preteen being somewhat embarrassed about how much I enjoyed watching this movie no one else ever even mentioned, I’m glad it’s getting some recognition.
I may disagree a little bit about Shifu not seeing Tai Lung as a son or a person. On the one hand, Shifu did push Tai Lung to be great (maybe not JK Simmons from Whiplash levels lol but still). On the other hand, they established that Shifu did love Tai Lung as a son so much so that he couldn't see the darkness that was in him that Oogway saw, he couldn't bring himself to fight him at first, and he never showed the same love towards anyone again 🤔.
Anyways, I appreciate you giving attention to Sinbad a fun and well-paced film, and I agree with your analysis. Sinbad constantly showing his noble side and proving that he's not the black-hearted selfish thief people perceive him as is one of the reasons Marina falls for him. In addition, to him living an adventurous life at sea that she craves.
In regards to Eris the villain of the film. I always got the vide that she did what she did in the movie because she is chaos personified. She doesn't have a backstory because she is just this goddess that enjoys causing discourse and has fun making deals not because she actually needs the book of peace or anything 🤔.
Lastly, one ambitious project you could tackle is DreamWorks vs Pixar and how people use to compare these companies for a lot a reasons like how they were making films that suspiciously looked similar, how they both were significant in 3D animation taking over theaters, or how people use to praise pixar and bash DreamWorks at one point and how that has changed a bit by today 🤔.
Love these analysis videos. Prince of Egypt remains as one of my favorite animated films and I'm so glad i got to see it when it was released.
Megamind is also a great one about societal expectations.

Definitely one of my top 3 favorite dreamworks movies, and it really handles expectations really great with both Megamind himself, Metro man and Hal/Titan with how society sees them and how they actually are (great vid overall tho, really like dreamworks ^^)
I love Mr. Wolf because alone of his team, he doesn't accept his assigned societal role, and wants people to see that there's more to him, never losing his faith that somehow, someone can see it. He's also wise enough to realize that he has to work for people seeing him differently. I love him.
I know it wasn’t a flop, but I still don’t feel like Bad Guys gets enough credit. It’s so good!

The interesting thing about people just accepting how society sees them and being that way is that for me personally, I decided to reject how society sees me and be who I want to be because who society wants me to be is not the real me and being who everyone else wants me to be has never gotten me anywhere in life. I do believe God has been guiding me to help me to learn how to be comfortable being myself as I have been praying for help to find a wife. I realized that he's been helping me to be myself so I can find a woman who will like the real me and not the person I'd been conditioned to be by society.
You made me realize I've been doing something wrong. "Shifu never saw Tai Lung as a person, he saw him as a goal." I want nothing more than to get married but I realized when you said that that I've been looking at finding a wife as a goal and not as a person i want to be with.

8:10 Probably my favorite scene in Kung Fu Panda is when Tai Lung is laying into Shifu, finally letting loose all the rage he's been holding in. You can hear in his voice as he screams and roars at Shifu about how hurt he was by what Shifu did, refusing to stand by him as the Dragon Warrior, not even attempting to argue effectively making it seem like Tai Lung wasted his entire life training nonstop.
I know personally what that kind of pain feels like. I spent almost two years of my life studying for the BAR Exam on Three Separate occasions, spent months doing almost nothing but studying, missing events, holidays, closing myself off, spending large amomunts of money and time traveling....only to be told I failed and that all my efforts amounted to nothing.
It's a heartbreaking feeling and it makes you beyond furious.

I'd say the three things Dreamworks loves are expectations, identity, and found family. My favorite time they tackled expectations was with Hiccup in HTTYD. Him not being expected to be just like his father, only to be a great chief by doing new things and improving the world was great.

One of my favorite animation studios is Cartoon Saloon. It's an Irish film studio that makes some very enchanting kid's content.
I'm a big fan of the Sinbad movie (whenever me and my friends talk about it, I like to point out how much of it's scenes and imagery were ripped off by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End). I thought the point of Eris doing her thing was that she was the goddess of chaos and she was bored - which is not a good thing for mortals. But I will absolutely concede that the whole Book of Peace thing was dumb, and an honestly lazy macguffin.
Zac Brown Band's rendition of 'From Now On' is top tier. I need to listen to that whole soundtrack again though. I've been listening to 'The Other Side' on loop the past few weeks. Best song in the movie to me.
Arguably my favorite movie of all time is How To Train Your Dragon. If you're trying to farm content, especially Dreamworks content, I think a breakdown of all of the themes and dynamics in that movie could be a killer video. It touches on so many things in such subtle ways. I'm still finding new things in that movie after all of these years. Stoic especially is one of the best written father figures I think I've seen, encapsulating the struggle of balancing his desires to protect, support, encourage, mold, and discipline a very outcast and different Hiccup, while also trying to maintain the respect required of a warrior leader. You can tell he really wants his son to succeed, but his son is running against the grain so heavily that he can't connect with him. I'm not a dad, so I can't speak to exactly how accurate this is from Stoic's perspective, but from the son's perspective I see a lot of my own relationship with my dad in Hiccup and Stoic's relationship, albeit my dad was always more supportive. His version of push back was always making sure I had thought my plans through, as potentially socially detrimental as they could be, as opposed to getting frustrated I wanted to do something different. His priority was making sure that I'd be safe and healthy, especially if I was doing something that was completely out of scope compared from his personal experience. Personal anecdotes aside, Stoic is such an awesome character because he fulfills the role of a villain, providing a weight of expectations and extreme conflict for Hiccup, while never actually being truly wrong or a villain with what he's trying to do for Hiccup, sans the moment he rejects Hiccup as his son. He always wanted the best for Hiccup, but didn't know how to connect with him, and the weight of expectations on him as Berk's leader just added to messy disconnect between the two. I think it's a beautiful exploration of how messy relationships between parents and their kids can be, and I feel like Stoic embodies the, "I love my son but I can't connect with him to save my life" struggle I feel like many dad's probably go through. There's so much to look at in that movie, but I'd love to see your thoughts on Stoic especially as a dad yourself.

I think the first _How To Train Your Dragon_ plays the whole overused tropes of "Things are more than they look" and that "You can shape your own destiny and be different" exceptionally well. Easily one of my favorite DreamWorks films ever. I'm really hopeful for the future of CGI animation since _Into the Spiderverse_ opened new doors for animators to emulate the fundamentals of 2D animation with 3D models. DreamWorks caught on that quick with _The Bad Guys_ and _Puss in Boots 2,_ and those films not only had amazing animation but also stellar storytelling.

And defense of Sinbad: while yes, Eris does seem one dimensional as a villain wanting the book of peace and all that she does to get it, I always saw it as this: she’s a goddess and the gods and goddesses of old are petty are one dimensional in mythology. She didn’t want the book of peace because it was all powerful. She wanted the book of peace because she wanted to see the chaos and that ensued trying to get it back. Her end goal is always just that: chaos, as little or as much as possible. Also, you can probably say that she also likes just being right and expecting people to be just as diabolical as her because in a way people trying to disprove her also causes a type of chaos on themselves and others and of course when she’s proven wrong and everything like any god in mythology she throws a hissy fit.
Sinbad didn't "decide to be a good guy" Sinbad decided that the end of the world and death of his best friend were not worth his pride. His Ship Wright knew his heart and was one of the factors that led him do make that call. He would have completely regretted the decision to the contrary, and his men knew that, at least the close ones to him. Additionally, he still wasn't "good" at the end of the show, he was still a pirate, and off to be more a pirate, he just didn't have all that weight of regret weighing him down.
Favorite animation studio has to be Dreamworks. They did my favorite animated movie of all time, "How to Train Your Dragon." The first movie is a masterclass on how to write an engaging "Hero vs Society/Hero vs Environment" movie.
I had most of the songs from Prince of Egypt memorized or almost memorized when I was in college eons ago. It is sooooo amazing. I need to go back to that soundtrack soon to enjoy it again. ❤

Well, time to rewatch Sinbad.
DreamWorks can be hit and miss but when they hit, they HIT. I love How to Train Your Dragon, and they're also behind Voltron Legendary Defender which is a personal favorite. It's last two seasons aren't the strongest, but the first two in particular are really good (just don't talk to me about Allura, because she was wasted potential)
I don’t remember why it flopped so hard, but Sinbad almost bankrupted the whole company. It’s a shame since the movie really is fun. How to train your dragon is just phenomenal. Everyone keeps talking about this Race to the Edge show, and I’ve got to check it out. Apparently the villain, Viggo?, is excellent
@@gregowen2022 the movie is a ton of fun and I like the friendship between Sinbad and Proteus a lot.
Race to the Edge is great. You get to see them exploring, growing as characters, and Hiccup working on the inventions you see in the second movie. Viggo is a great villain, and it complements the movies very well without creating weird contradictions or needing the movies to prop up the story. It just feels like another adventure when you live in a Viking village with dragons
I still remember the shows Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk when they aired on Cartoon Network. Think those were the last weekly released shows I watched in high school. The animation quality was so-so, but they had some great character episodes and set good foundations for Race to the Edge. Dagur for sure is the highlight for me among all the shows 😋
Agreed, especially with Voltron. Interestingly, the DVDs for the series are sold in chunks, so it's easy to just skip the last 2 seasons. I'd love to see sales numbers on those. They really botched those storylines and characters. Lots of good moments earlier, though.
There’s a few DreamWorks films I don’t see as getting enough attention but really enjoy ☺️
I think what deserves a good look at are The Croods movies. Admittedly, the storyline and characters are pretty simple and straightforward, but every time I watch them I get hit with a huge wave of emotion.
At its core, The Croods is about family and dealing with the challenges that come with it when things change. Grug, the dad, is a stereotypical parent who wants to keep his family safe (maybe except Gran 😂) while Eep, the oldest daughter, wants to explore and experience the world. What I think makes the dynamic work and not come across as horribly cliche, is that the world is actively hostile to the family and we see countless examples of how Grug’s way did keep them safe, even if the live itself was still bad in its own way. But, we also understand Eep’s curiosity and desire because there’s moments where the world is so beautiful, gentle, and awe inspiring that we want her to enjoy it, especially since she’s a late teenager trying to figure herself out. She loves her family, and she also wants a little independence.
It isn’t until the world they know is literally ending and Guy shows them there’s other ways of handling problems that the family starts growing. Grug, of course, takes the longest to adjust and he knows he isn’t comfortable or ready for the changes coming their way. However, the man loves his family and would rather see himself perish than lose them, even if that means entrusting their care to someone he does not like but understands can help them in ways he couldn’t. The final scene of him throwing his family over and later drawing them alive with his arms wrapped around them still brings a tear to my eye 🥲
The second movie takes a slightly turn, but still keeps the family idea going. Now the Croods have another family, the Bettermans, to interact with and we see the similarities and differences between the two. Phil and Hope made a sanctuary for their daughter, Dawn, after losing their friends, Guy’s parents, and never knowing what happened to Guy. Like Grug, the two kept a close eye on Dawn and developed a sense of superiority due to their achievements. They then find their world upturned when the Croods show up with Guy, and the two families end up clashing because of their differences and upbringings. Eep and Guy also end up going through relationship troubles because Guy, despite being an accomplished survivalist, never really enjoyed fighting for his life all the time while Eep was born and grew up in that type of lifestyle. Then there’s Phil and Hope trying to push Grug and Ugga out so only Guy would be left, which the latter pair respond by eating all the bananas and inadvertently causing the final conflict. Both families realize they can learn a lot from each other and with their kids being friends, the parents also start trying to get along and find that they actually enjoy each other’s company. It’s a wacky sequel, but one that I find actually has a lot of character growth and progression under all the comedy and tropes.
So yeah, all to say that The Croods needs more attention and love because the themes about family, adapting to changes, learning how to deal with people who are different from you, etc are so good. Not to mention the animation is so gorgeous! 🤩 The creative, bright, colorful environments are so much fun to immerse yourself into, and it was a great treat when I originally saw the movies in theaters. Plus, the animal hybrids are also fun to watch, with my favorites being Chunky the Death Cat, Belt and later Sash, and the Punch Monkeys from the second movie.
Another underrated DreamWorks movie is Rise of the Guardians, which yeah has developed a cult like following over the years but I still wish the studio would do something with it!
The big thing about RotG is Jack Frost discovering who he truly is, what motivates him, and learning how to tackle the challenges in his life. He’s developed a reputation as a mischievous being with a love for children and wanting to make their little moments feel special. However, he also struggles with intense loneliness in a world where humans don’t see him and his fellow spirit/mythical beings are caught up in their own spheres to notice him. That changes when the other Guardians are told by Man in the Moon about how vital Jack’s help will be to defeat Pitch Black, the Boogeyman, which causes them to realize how focused they were on the small details of their respective roles that they inadvertently stopped actually knowing the children they protected.
The best of RotG is probably Pitch as a dark mirror to Jack. Both unseen beings with great power, and desiring a world where they are known. However, Jack wants to be known for the joy and protection he provides for children, and doesn’t like to see them suffer if he can help it. Whereas Pitch doesn’t care about how much fear he causes to the children so long as he’s acknowledged in some capacity. Such a classic dark and cold/winter pairing with the twist being that Jack focuses on the joy and special moments winter and snow over its depressing and sometimes fearing reputation.
Honestly I could focus on a lot of DreamWorks movies and what sort of cool and relatable themes they have, even for properties like Trolls, Boss Baby, and a few others. Don’t know why, but their movies always strike such a stronger cord with me than Disney, Pixar, or other animation studios.

Expectations are also an ongoing theme in the How to train your dragon films.
In the first, Hiccup struggles to live down the expectations his father has of him. God knows he could not live up to them, but somehow ends up doing just that, but not in a good light thanks to his now friendship with toothless...
In the second, he is once again at odds with the things Stoick excepts from him as the next in line village chief, which he runs away from, swiftly kicking into motion the actual conflict.
And in the third he is at all-out war with the expectations put on him as acting chief, and not living up to them in a way the people want him to. Only this time it is more an underlying motif breathing life into the world, rather than a secondary conflict or plot-enabling device (which, as someone who adores details and world building, is no less important).
IMHO Sinbad's arc is based in theme of friendship versus selfish dream. The message in that theme could be summed up best by Lion El Johnoson "Loyalty is it's own reward".

Watched the road to el dorado with my sister a month or two ago for the first time. Instantly one of my favorite movies ever. Need to go back and watch a bunch of dreamworks movies it seems
The Last Jedi is a great example of the theme w/ both Luke and Kylo Ren having huge expectation placed on them that they struggle to achieve.

5:31 I fell like this expectation inspiring someone is also present in dreamwork’s show trollhunters and how Jim despite it feeling like a burden at times, realizes that his destiny is a gift and reaches the responsibility of being troll hunter with help from his friends
Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia and other DW Netflix shows were about the only reason I even watched the streaming service. Jim quickly became one of my favorite characters because he balanced all the usual tropes of destiny and duty while also making changes to tradition that didn’t feel “new hero changes old ways just because” that’s present in other shows and characters.
prince of egypth is a classic i respect my mother for giving me de CD version while when i talk about with friends none knows this masterpiece i watched it for like 6 times and started when i was 5 im 18 now so i understand why few people my age knows it but still a master piece is a master piece, another example is spirit one of my favouriote movies

Chel made me excited when I was a kid and no matter what I will always preferred DreamWorks movies (aside from Ruby Gilman). They’re obviously not held back by studio executives. They can go all out if they want to. Hell they can make another thick character again.
individuality and some others i just cant at the moment think of in Antz. yeah some say its a rip off of A Bugs life but rewatching it it touches in being yourself, choice, and seeking something more and self worth. Or at least thats what i got from it.

Dreamworks need to take advantage of the Fall of Disney and keep with tradition story telling they will rise up higher than Disney and Walt would be proud of it too.

Well, this is a villain from a game rather than a movie, but the rise and fall of Arthas Menethil from World of Warcraft is a fantastic villain origin story. Very much like The GodFather parts 1 & 2, we see someone with good intentions start out on a path and end up becoming quite evil in the end, but by small steps and changes along the way. Little ethical compromises to achieve some "noble" objective, in the end leading inevitably to an antagonist role.

Being the dragon warrior was about having the good hearted spirit of a brave warrior, but tai lung only learned to be a badass.
I would say disney did a great job of entertaining with some compelling stories, but dreamworks effortlessly bleeds its messages with great visuals and comedy. The depth of the stories dreamworks gives make their movies as great as they are, every character, song, dialogue, and even the visuals revolve around the meaning without shoving it in your face. I really want dreamworks to continue making timeless classics.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't like Kung Fu Panda. It is a good film series, but How to Train Your Dragon had a greater impact on me, and the story of Kung Fu Panda didn't resonate with me for some reason. The Bad Guys is definitely an underrated movie that needs more love. Prince of Egypt is also underrated and deserves credit for not continuing the trend of portraying biblical figures as white. Also, my least favorite song from The Greatest Showman is Never Enough, and Tightrope makes no. 5 on my ranking. (Come at me.)

Know you're something of a gamer, Greg, so I'd be curious to your thoughts on Caelar Argent, the main villain of Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear. She's similar to a DreamWorks villain, but rather than living down or living up to expectations, Caelar has to live up to the fact that she's utterly terrible at being a hero.
Unfortunately I can’t comment. When those were out, I wasn’t big into CRPGs. I bought one of the Buldur’s Gate combos for playstation, (BG1/Neverwinter?), but even with the interface improvements, those games are best with a mouse and keyboard, so I haven’t gotten far.
BG3 has me excited to dive into them, though I need to learn earlier rulesets. I started on 5e with Pillars of Eternity

On the "Bad Guys", you're slightly wrong about how the character the Crimson Paw is presented as a positive figure to essentially inspire us further in the false belief that "no matter who you were or where you come from you have no excuse to change who you are "for the better". The whole group of the bad guys, just like Megamind, are *openly* who they've always been perceived as, as where the Crimson Paw could only ever truly change herself "for the better" is if no one else knew who she was in her past to begin with. *That's why she's able to become who she was because she was always *concealed. That's what you seemed to misunderstand about just-why The Bad Guys had to work as hard as they all did to redefine their individual *and* collective images. it really kinda matters

You are not very right about Shifu. In scene were Oogway tells Tai Lung is not the one, Shifu turns around because he has nothing to say to Tai Lung, and couldn't look him in the eyes, because he felt like he, Shifu, let Tai Lung down. Shifu trained Tai Lung and made him belive he is the dragon warrior. And when the wisest of them said it's not like that, Shifu also had bad time. I think, tai Lung went insane into rage because of his pride. He thought he was worthy, he was told it's not like that, but he wanted it and no one can do anything about. If title of Dragon warrior for Tai Lung was only Shifu's dream, Tai Lung would just be "well, it is what it is, I will find new goal", even if it would be very hard to him. But his ego was hurt too much and he made everything to restore his pride. This is ehy he is one of the greates written villain in movies. He shows the problem of sick pride and what is does to people. Po there is a mirror to him. He had no pride, but worked for it and got his healthy self-worth, healthy pride
