I wouldn't recommend it. I'd use dummy cakes underneath and real icing on top (e.g. fondant/royal icing but not buttercream) and then you can keep it on display for several weeks without worrying.
I looked up this video cause of the episode of Seinfeld where Elaine ate a century old cake she stole from her boss and I was wondering how the cake didn't give her food poisoning, this did not answer my question...the search continues
That's certainly not a response I've had before! But I'm sure the century old cake comes below rice, curdled dairy products and raw pork for food poisoning effects ;-)
I want to create a real cake and have it 3 weeks on display is this possible? With icing ,.... sugar layering?
