Student Visa is a must watch shortfilm especially if you are planning to study abroad.
This is a project that began early in 2017 with the hopes of capturing the hardships that life in a different country often holds for those with student visas and the extent one would go to stay afloat. We aim to capture the experience of a group of friends who arrive in Canada with high hopes of "living the Canadian dream" but soon experience that there is more to it than snow.
This venture is headed by SJ Films in association with Naalkavala, produced by Jestina Kunnath and directed by Sajai Sebastian. Story is by Manju oruth, DOP by Sujith Vigneshwar. Music by Williams and background score is by Ronnie Raphel.

What I would suggest is try getting immigrated to Canada. Don't try the student VISA. Not that its bad. But with all the loans in India and then the struggle in Canada.... it would eat up your integral part of your good life. First after completing your graduation or PG, get a job in a reputed firm in Kerala (Check out technopark etc.) in the mean time apply for an immigrant VISA. This way you will be a PR on arrival. With your work experience you will get a good job in Canada. If you can cough up $10,000 on arrival it will be good cos that will kep you stable for a while. Try out in transportation or logistics fields, if ur english is good then check out cust service like Rogers and Bell etc. Also learn a bit of Canadian geography. Make sure u are ready to work in any field. Once you get a stable job, you can enhance your skills by learning what is required for your job. Rewrite your resume the Canadian way and be confident in your interviews. Don't let your self down. Above all PRAY to GOD ALMIGHTY with a humble heart. God has not let me down and I believe HE will not let you down too. After you get a job and become stable, don't forget your past. Help others and lift them up... cos God will lift you too. Further to the above... very few Canadian will leave their country and try to settle and start their life. We can do that with ease because we are flexible and adaptable. There is good and bad... focus on the good. Ignore the bad...

Every thing in this short film film must not be real because i am an student in europe and i have a good job here i work in a kebeb and i can afford all my expense from my salary and can safe some for my future there are a group of mallus who helped me to get my job.And of course there are agencies who trap us .
I think this story is based in Edmonton. I live in Toronto, so I can say from Toronto's point of view that things are not so dreadful like shown in this short film. I came here through PR so my situation is not within the context of this film. But I have seen students from Kerala and other places who came to Toronto or nearby cities and leading a decent life. All those youngsters I met here have one job. Some even do two jobs. Mostly they stay in a 2 BHK house paying around 1500 rent. When 4 people share, it comes to around 400 dollars per head. They cook themselves. Some guys who work in McD or Tims get free food for others also. Overall, living expenses does not cross 600 dollars a month. In Canada, minimum wage is 15 dollar per hour. These students work 20-30 hours a week. In a month they can earn at least $1500.
I would request those aspiring students not to get demotivated by watching this short film. However, at the same time I also don't encourage coming here through agency. The right way should be to get a PR and then get admission is good Universities (not colleges). Especially for PR holders, fee is half of what you pay otherwise. And most importantly don't come here (or to any other city in this world) by selling off everything you have in India or taking huge loans. Things in India are not really bad and you get good jobs in India too.
Come here only if you are passionate about the course that you're going to do here. Or if you are coming to just explore and experience a different life, make sure you worked in India and saved enough to survive some worst case scenarios like shown in the movie. Don't come here thinking you can become rich in a short span of time and clear all your debts back in India.
Well-articulated. You're spot-on as the opportunities in Toronto are better for students (those whom I know). Furthermore, landing here as a PR and then enrolling at top-notch Universities (in the 1st year, if possible) does greatly benefit.
I agree with the other solo reply.You have put things succinctly with practical advice.Its futile to put others (especially dependents) at risk even if such a migration is for the sake of a passion!
I am not sure about Canada. But 70 percent of this short film is real. If you come to any commonwealth nations by trusting agencies or other malayalies over here, that decision sucks. Over 80 percent of Malayalies are same to the car driver who picked them up at the very beginning of this short film. Honestly if you come here without PR , you must be prepared yourself to work even more like a coolie labour of Kerala. Until you get PR your life won t be splendid. Yet some people would find a sponsors or pair from the migrated country shall be okay but you must be tolerant & down to earth kind. I live in Australia. i have a life experience in Britain too. Things are pretty much similar to both these countries. Even if i migrated to Australia with Class to Skill Migrant, i suffered a lot in the beginning to get a job. Reason is over qualification & lack of Australian experience & no references from this country , as said as the same in this short film. Well once you understand how the system works, things would come to you in your own way. Remember one thing. Malayalies will not help you because they afraid of one thing. Will you get more hours & will you get much better job than me ! how silly ...it is the attitude of Malayalies here. You have to look at how Asians help their people in overseas. Where Malayalies sucks. Well i still say if you are qualified enough like a mechanic or qualified cook or a fully qualified hair dresser or any techical dilploma holders you get job with ease. For which you need to make your qualifications equvilant to Australian standards. It may need some money & attend classes but it still worth. If you are qualified like BA MA or M.com kind of stuff would not work as you expected. For those people can try for daily wages job without mentioning these things in their resume. Even that not bad. Good money. Any question related to Australia can be asked. Feel free. Thanks for this short film. I appreciate your effort. It is realistic.

They have good job, money, own house etc. The only thing you have to make sure is that u should have some money with you when you come here.

m faiz 400-$800 per week. Depends on how many hours you work and what kind of job you do. As a student, you have a 20hr work restriction. Living expense is too high. Rent, travel n food costs a lot.

amidst of all negative comments, i strongly agree to the fact CANADA is better than any other country and its migration policies and the super polite and helping people of this country, however this particular film revolves around the stories of students.,,,its very true atleast for a short period you go through all these stress and job hunting, converting from study permit to work permit etc also your enjoyments in the midst of your troubles like party, club.,,,may not be more than 6 months if you really work on it and make connections and ready to do any jobs to gain canadian experience etc.,, But it will teach you life and survival. Everything comes to an end, as you get PR( the real life journey starts)... good movie, awesome work...

I think there is no need for we malayalees to migrate any other countries to get a job. We have enough job here but the reason is we malayalees are only considering only few Jobs as "good". After completing Bcom or Btech we are only looking for getting a job in Bank or any government institutions. Because we are only considering these jobs are " prestigious' one. From my small experience I can easily tell you that here in India we can live more comfortable than any other countries because the living cost here is so cheap. I was once haired by Byju's App and my salary was 8-10 lakhs per year. That was more than enough to run a exotic life here even you have a family. if you search hard here then you can easily find 100's of well paying jobs like this. But we are so blind and we only knows 3 options after Degree Bank job, government job or go abroad.😂😂

I am living in Milan since last year and I too feel that we have better job scenario in India compared to Europe.. mainly because standard of living is cheaper in India and we have very competitive package in India if we have the talent to search and crack interviews.. my obsession with living abroad has died now.. This short film seems to give a wrong message. Thank God I did not saw such short films before coming to Canada. This is a much better place for Job opportunity and wages. The government is not that hard on you. All you have to do is just follow the rules and regulations. For me and my friends the situations only get better at Canada. Thanks to Canada.

NAALKAVALA FILMS :Neither do I have told that you have said Canada as not good. Have you taught of the image that this film can create in the mind of a new student who is ready to reach Canada ( look on Sahad’s reply which better explains what I have said). If you have feelings for those students who get betrayed by fake agencies then suggest some good options to the viewers who they can trust.
I don’t know anyone who is already married in Kerala starting a relationship with Canadian citizen for the sake of staying back. (These are all rare case)

My bf is in Canada (Toronto) ...He doesn't have PR ..He went there by student visa too...So I could relate this film with his life.

Don't do daily wage jobs? --> Everyone does it. That is the only way to climb up the ladder in such countries.
Don't try to cheat the govt there? --> yeah i agree on that. Respect the rules of the country that you are in, or else be prepared to be deported.
All in all, an okay film, but kinda gives a negative message to everyone who wishes to go to Canada.

As a short film it’s nice. Even that Canadian lady’s acting was really good. Nice camera and bgm. But the concept was a lil bit negative. It’s true but don’t generalise it with such a caption. Canada is a good place for good jobs. We can make money in a good way itself. Job means hardship and no matter where we are. Is India a heaven of soft and smooth jobs? So don’t underestimate all the international students and such a welcoming and friendly country like Canada.
