Did not know how old she was. Only knew she was superb as Granny. Loved her in that role! ♥️
Make-up and great acting produces magic!
Irene played Granny very well. And even looked like a granny.
She only looked like Granny because of the very heavy makeup and wig.
She looked so different without the makeup she probably went in public unrecognized.
She probably appreciated being able to go out.
My grandmother and Irene were school friends growing up, so I was aware of this long ago 🤣 She was an incredible person.
Well, I'll be dipped in the see-ment pond, I didn't know that about Granny (Irene Ryan). She was the backbone of the show. Not to take anything away from the rest of the cast. I didn't realize she was as young she was. Bless you Bob Snapp for bringing back fond memories from days gone by.
Cement, not "see-ment".🙄 Irene needed dental work done, her teeth were in bad shape.
Well, if she had been in her 80's, she couldn't have done all the demanding stuff Granny had to do. ❤
William Hartnell, the first Doctor Who, was only in his fifties during his time on that show, even though his character was always described as an 'old man.'
That’s because he looked like he was in his 70’s
I had always wondered how old she really was, and I think she was beautiful in real life, thanks Bob.
❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊 Irene is Great She is Magic and Actor ❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
I remember going back "home" to Kansas to work when I was 23. I was called an "old maid" as I wasn't married. "No Spring Chicken" back in the day meant anybody over 30. Back in the day you were expected to be married at 18 and have 2-3 kids by the time you were 20. Loved "Granny" Irene Ryan.
My father’s mother had a character and a look so much like granny on the Beverly hillbillies it was unreal! However, my mother’s mother was a second or third cousin to Irene in real life!
whoever chose her for the part couldn't possibly have done better . give that man (?) a raise .
She did for TBH what Don Knotts did for TAGS
Irene was talented and played Granny well. Wardrobe and makeup works good. Praying for you 🙏. Melanie and thank you.
Very awesome lady
Bob I remember seeing her on the “Dean Martin Show “ and she appeared at the top of the stairs where Dean started his show by the bottom of the stairs she was Granny.😊! Not too many acts can follow in her footsteps today.
Have a great day!
For as wiry and energetic as Granny was, she couldn't have been as old as her character.
By contrast, Donna Douglas was older than her character. Aside from her beauty, she was about 30 years old when the series began and played the part superb.
Donna Douglas was born in 1932. She died on January 1, 2015 at the age of 82. She was very beautiful both inside and outside because she was a born again Christian.
The cast of TBH came to the Arkansas state fair during its run, not sure of the year. But all were in character except Irene Ryan who was in a beautiful floor length ball gown, long white gloves, the works. No granny makeup.
I always thought it was funny that Jed was actually older than Granny in real life.
That's right!! Buddy Ebsen was born in 1908 and he was older than Irene Ryan.
Irene Ryan was a great actress. One book on the series noted that her makeup was harsher at the beginning of the series. She looked kinder with the glasses. Too bad she never did a dual role at her real age. You could do a video on classic TV about actors whose characters involved big changes in appearance and voice.
Clive Dunn was 48 when he played Corporal Jones in Dad's Army.
Hollywood makeup artists are magic. She played a hell of a role in the show. Shows like that, gomer pyle, etc, all had a rural look at things, were always good, taught values without being preachy, just good tv. Later on, In The Heat Of The Night was a great show. Matlock. I don't know much about todays shows.
I didn’t know for a long time that Irene Ryan was actually younger than Raymond Bailey who played Milburn Drysdale.
She was a little older than him, but not much. Ryan was born in either 1902 or '03, while Bailey was born in either 1904 or '05. This is based on many sources.
@chrismulwee4911 Irene Ryan was definitely NOT born in 1902. You need to stop believing everything that Wikipedia, Google, and UA-cam say about celebrities. Buddy Ebsen was born in 1908 and he was older than Irene Ryan.
@georgesouthwick7000. Actually, Buddy Ebsen was born in 1908 and he was older than Irene Ryan. Wikipedia, Google, and UA-cam are all wrong about Irene Ryan.
Estelle Getty was quite young too on Golden Girls.
Best news I’ve heard for yonks! If 59 is “shockingly young”, then I’m still young. Not shockingly so, but young. I’ll take that, cheers! There’s just one thing though. I wish I could convince my body.😂😂😂
When the Beverly Hillbillies began, Donna Douglas was pushing 30...or dragging it behind her.
She was an old maid.
Donna Douglas was born in 1932.
irene ryan different looking in person.
That reminds me. I heard, not too long ago, that when Doctor Who premiered in 1963, the actor playing The Doctor was only 55 at the time. But he was supposed to be the grandfather of a teenage girl. In character he looked and acted like someone at least in his 70s. I had no idea he was so young till recently when I read he was born in 1908. I'm older now than he was then. Oops, just looking down through the comments I see that someone else posted this same thing.🙂
Back in the early Sixties 59 was considered old not like today where it's still considered middle age.
✌️
Wilford Brimley (1934-2020) was only 50 or 51 in Cocoon (1985), while his co-stars Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Gwen Verdon, Maureen Stapleton and Don Ameche were older by 10 years or more..
Gosh she was beautiful
So, during most of the Beverly Hillbillies run, Irene Ryan was actually younger than Vanna White is today?
A lot younger because Irene Ryan was in her 40s when she played Granny in the tv show "The Beverly Hillbillies."
I'm really getting into your UA-cam channels. I like the fact that you keep it concise and a reasonable length for the video. But I heard you call Granny Daisy Mae Moses. I've never heard her called that on anything but some UA-cam channels and in some articles about the character. I do not recall ever hearing her called Daisy Mae on the program itself. Do you have an episode reference that I can look at to see that. I've seen most episodes, if not all, multiple times and I just do not recall anyone on the program referring to her as Daisy Mae.
You obviously haven't watched very many of the episodes of "The Beverly Hillbillies" on tv because her name is mentioned several times in several of the episodes.
@@lynettepalecek3141 thanks for the mention but your comment is totally useless. I've clearly said I don't "recall" seeing an episode with her called Daisy "Mae." I've seen plenty where she was called Daisy but I asked for someone to provide a season and episode number so I could see that. If there are so many episodes that you are familiar with where she was called Daisy Mae, why are you unable to name one? You can maybe even name the plot of one of them and I can do a Google search by that information. But just to make an unsubstantiated claim that I've never seen many of the episodes is ridiculous.
Some people just don't look their age. Irene Ryan is one of them.😉
Ask any high school drama student who has played Aunt Eller in "Oklahoma". It can be done.
So ,,, how old was she at the start of beverlyhillbillies??????????????????????
59. Stated at 132.
Irene Ryan was in her 40s when she started playing Granny in "The Beverly Hillbillies."
@@lynettepalecek3141 She was born in 1902 and the show started in 1962. So she was 59 almost 60.
Meg Ryan’s aunt.
Irene was born 1902, the show started 1962, so she was 60 when she started playing Granny. And yes, they used a lot of makeup and a wig.
Could had been 59 when she started the show, depending on her birth date and date the sow started
She was not born in 1902. That's a flat out lie being told by Wikipedia, Google, and UA-cam.
@@dianemoye6844 could have been 61 also, if you want to get that technical.
Instead of listening to this person yammer on and on and on, I just went to Google. She was almost 60 when the show started.
Google is wrong. Irene Ryan was in her 40s when she started playing Granny in "The Beverly Hillbillies." Wikipedia, Google, and UA-cam all are wrong about when she was born and when she died.
i thought she was younger 59 for a white woman she looked her age white women age quick thats why we have a high divorce rate
She was younger! Irene Ryan was in her 40s when she started playing Granny in "The Beverly Hillbillies." Wikipedia, Google, and UA-cam are all wrong about when she was born and when she died. I know because I still remember back in the late 1960s when Irene Ryan died. The newspaper said that she was in her 50s when she died at the time.
@dennisiones1941. Btw, I'm a white woman and I'm 67 years old. A lot of people, both men and women tell me that I look like I'm in my early 50s.
