One of my best friends hired me to build his brother a wedding gift. Something that would stay in his family for a generation or two. I figured that in the process I would make a tutorial for building log benches that can sit around campfire, fire pit, or accent a front entry way. In this video I use a relatively green log, which will likely split over the next few seasons. This was combated by staining the ends of the logs with 6 coats. Any splits in the log can be stained and they will stabilize. This video also features a very easy way and unique way to cut a log directly in half with chainsaw.

That auger bit looks good and sharp!
Love these benches!
That was so relaxing to watch. Looks lovely.
What a great tip to use a mirror 👍👍 Beautiful bench!
I love Mountain Fire Woodworks channel!
Gran demostración de trabajo manual, excelente.
My dream is to do this as a hobby. Sell if I feel like it, and give them away as presents or use them myself If I can't sell. Woodworking is the most therapeutic shit ever.
Really amazing work continue 👍👏
Hola felicitaciones, super linda la banca, excelente trabajo con la madera saludos de Valdivia Chile

I really love this. I subscribe!
I'll subcribe! I love when a man knows what to do with his hands!
is the bleaching necessary if you are going to sand it down a bit?
Good
Nice :)
It would have been nice to see a back view, but overall great job!!
Bacana boa ideia
A scrub plane would work great for flattening this
Awsome work. Just subscribed. I think i am going to find a local tree company and get some logs and build 2 or 3 of these this summer. Thank you for sharing sir!
Justin Russell I would recommend calling a tree removal company. Or just a drive around the city - you shouldn’t have to pay for something like this when they’re getting thrown away as often as they are
@@MountainFireWoodworks true. There is a tree company cutting down a tree just a half a block away from me lol.
nice job and great music....
Không để nằm xuống mà xẻ. Bạn rất thông minh
What size auger did you use and where can I purchase one?
Where can I find that hand crank auger thing?
1950
Where in gods name did you get that hand auger???
How long does the log have to dry out before doing this?
Really the longer the better. I really didn't dry mine at all so it will experience a little cracking and maybe a little bit of warping. It depends how patient you are, but I would say just use a green log and leave it out for a few days until the pitch dries. The drying time for a log this size is years. I would recommend contacting your local tree removal companies.
Omg
I’d prefer to Here are the chainsaw than that noise you’re probably going to call music
Sand with the grain
What kind of wood was this?
This is from a lodgepole pine tree. It was being removed because it was blocking a solar panel if you can imagine that.
Mountain Fire Woodworks ah the irony. Great video!
A 12 inch skill saw on not sides might have worked as well! ?snap a chalk line down both sides
You might consider using hydrogen peroxide on the mold instead of bleach because it doesn't have the fumes bleach does
Thanks Matt, will definitely consider using this next time
Is bet my life you don't listen to this music as you work. Matalica?
DO you mean you used wood stain from stopping the wood to split? "In this video I use a relatively green log, which will likely split over the next few seasons. This was combated by staining the ends of the logs with 6 coats"
I will try to do it with Woodglut plans.
This bench wasn't for you to sell right? I would think something that took this long to make would be for personal enjoyment and personal use.
Woodglut plans are amazing!
I did it with the Woodprix plans.
Freaking music drove me to shut it off!!!
Had to watch this with the sound off, as the music in the back ground was annoying
awesome looking bench, but the music sucked
ahh I know haha. One of the first videos I ever made!
I bought Woodglut once and now I have lifetime access to thousands of woodworking projects.
Cool build! Worst music ever?
