It is time to start the #rebuild of my #salvage Hyundai #i30n which I bought from auction with the hope of restoring and improving. Although straight away as soon as we start stripping back panels the car reveals hidden damage which won't be so simple to fix. Wish me luck!

A grand for a DRL! What the 😮😮😮
nah thats normal for hyundai....there not cheap to fix on purpose....they dont want you fixing them they want you to trade it in n get a new one!
8&10 might be the grade of bolt. In structural steel we use 4.6, 8.8 & 10.9
Just get a breaker to cut you a section of chassis leg off including the wing support section you need. Then like a previous guy said drill the spot welds out and get it plug welded to your car. Perfectly safe and legal, probably cheaper, certainly quicker.
Chris & Mat are basically the only reason I use UA-cam now😂
The numbering on the bolts I believe relates to the tensile strength! Really enjoying following your channel, nice one!
What Ricky said 👆
Yeah the higher the number the higher the grade (strength) don't replace with lower rated
Yes, the most comon grading system is the x.y. Where the most comon bolt is 8.8 witch means it has 800MPa ultimate strength and 800MPa *80%=640MPa yield strength. But there are other bolt grade systems around too.
The numbers relate to the tensile strength of the bolt - the higher the number the stronger the bolt.
I’ve been exactly where you are now Chris, having bought a sporty model of a popular easy to find car at the auctions to fix easily. After looking for all the bits needed to fix a front end damaged vehicle at the dealers or breakers, EVERY TIME (without fail) it has worked out a LOT cheaper to buy another whole car at the auctions (not breakers) with the damage in a different area (usually rear ended or side damage )
This method also gave me the opportunity to sell off some of the unused parts from the second vehicle, which brings the overall price down even further. Obviously you need space to do it this way, but it saves a fair chunk of cash, and a lot of time haggling with scrappers & tripping ebayers who think their parts are gold plated.
Also, to keep costs down buying here in Australia, I try to buys cars that have been written off for salvage only (unregisterable) as parts cars, & I know this method is difficult in the UK as you have to take every part you need and leave the rest, but that might still be a better way to do it in the long run.
I’m enjoying this build as it’s very similar to what I’m doing, using the same parts & panels from cheaper base model cars wherever I can, to repair their hot versions, albeit without the filming & posting on UA-cam. It usually only leaves me needing to source the performance parts separately. Good luck & hoping to see your channel build with this popular car. Best wishes mate. 😊
I agree he could get a cat b from copart and use they’re breaker service will probably make some money in the end if he strips enough parts.
Fair play Berty for coming and helping, top lad. Don’t give up on searching for the parts, Hyundai’s are being written off all the time, you’ll find everything you need second hand
I worked for Hyundai bodyshop for years and I would definitely repair them wing fixings, not replace them , it’s no big deal , I’m definitely not a structural part so it would not affect the car in any way for them being repaired .
I drive past this everyday, pains me to see but glad to see it getting sorted💯
Straighten that bit out mate
After a tough day at work, you get home to a great Chris Slix upload... What's not to like? 😃
Chris the numbers on the bolts is the bolt tensile strength and those brackets that are bent go to a breakers yard and get them
This parts hunting part is great, keep it up! 👍🏼
The numbers on the bolts will be the strength of the bolt. Grade 8.8 is high tensile and grade 10 is still high tensile but harder if that makes sense😂
I had a kia sedona mk2 . 2.9 turbo diesel. Anyway the parts for it were super expensive and you wouldnt expect it. Somthing to do with not stocking most parts in uk
The numbers on bolts is tensile strength common ones are 8.8 ,10 ,12.5 most bolts are at least 8.8
Exactly why we are getting rid of our i20N track rental car, every time a customer breaks it it takes us months to get parts, where as a golf we can have fixed in days, issue with rare cars I suppose
If anyone can do it, you can Chris!
Nice to see a video you're actually excited to click on.
Good day when Slix posts 😌
Really enjoy the parts hunt different to other channels 😊
It's really a non issue my friend, those aren't even structural, they just support the fuse boxes, the other one also you can recreate it's function by building a new replacement yourself. As long as your frame is straight there's no need for OEM
Keep it going Chris..looking forward to seeing updates on this one 👍🏻
Ask the breakers for the inner wing
Loving this project. Was cool to meet you the other day!
Was looking forward to an update video. Nice one Chris 👍
Yep drl are expensive many people have found that but as I said previously I have supplied several cheaper than dealer new oem parts.
These are not easy to fix as your finding out
Just an idea why not get Matt to see if Hyundai USA have stock? Might be different in the USA and then he can bring it back with him?
Good video mate, you need some closing theme music
day time running lights should only be £200-£300 off hyundai
Sounds daft but try a kia dealer for some stuff as they might be the same as some other cars. So the 130 n is similar to the ceed gt so the parts might cross over. Worth a try. Good luck
Chris why don't you go down the breakers & drill off the inner wing bits with a spot weld drill bit ? All the best with finding all the other bits.
Cut hub Insert out, or hold hammer one side, hit other side with another hammer
Crazy you straggling to find parts, good luck with it bro I know you will sort it out you always do. 🎉🎉
thank you for the upload :D i love the I30N id swap my 12 astra for a hyundai/kia any day
Exactly why ppl don't update their listing online boggles me. Been this way with my little build. Going dealership to avoid faffing about🤢🥴
Cheers Chris great content as usual 😊😊
I am sure you will get the bits one way or another. Can yo not straighten the steel parts, it is only tin? Good luck and look forward to the next. 👍👍👍👍
Looking forward to seeing this back together!
My man learning from Mat Armstrong
Great vid as always, maybe you could get an aftermarket uprated intercooler!
Great video Chris. Great to see your subs increasing too
Thanks Lee!
Chris, there’s a guy called Dan Bushell on UA-cam who has had a couple of i30Ns and modded them.He might be able to give you advice on the car or help out in some way.Worth a punt. What’s the worst he’ll say eh? Nothing to lose have you
Enjoying this !
Berties trainers are mint.
I've been driving damaged cars since 08, the prices for spares is just insane today. My personal rule is for me to keep the car is it has to be bought and repaired for 66% of the Straight undamaged value. Some of these repaired CAT S/N i30n's are for sale at 80-85%, sorry not happening.
I would honestly be looking at chucking it back in the auction.
my dream car
Hear me out here right. If you had an RS6 it’s literally the perfect all rounder and perfect for picking parts up. I bought the Cheapest RS6 video incoming 🙏🏻🤞🤣
One day 😂
N line bumper has a bigger Emblem. I owned it.
It’s the ultimate tensile strength mate, 800 Nmm etc 8.8 …
Would be an idea to put a mat underneath, so the mess is in on the drive😊
Get few cans on the go Chris maybe a bbq aswell 😂😂
That bonnet is an easy repair
Great vid geez
Chris what's happened to the 135i ?
Is the bolt number not the M rating ie M10 -M8, also i drove past as you was taking the wing off
When he asked what the numbers on bolts stood for, I knew this wasn't for me
Master mechanic stanley is in the house everyone
Numbers on bolts are tensile strength grade.
This is a very creative thumbnail!!! cheers:)
does that damage make it a CAT S?
he will never be a Chrisfix
I would actually replace that damaged rim. Theres a lot of cheap offers for the original rims since everyone replaces them :)
I think im just guna be changing the set man 😊
@@Chris_Slix even better haha :)
I've got some parts for it
Do you ever think/find people see you building a car that have parts for inflate the price?
Dang! Loads of money being made in second hand parts.
Its written off because some muppet couldn't drive, LMAO. In 2011 Chevrolet had to ship a whole front slam panel and radiator support from Korean to repair my car as they changed the design.
Can you legally do this work on your drive in the UK
Only me that gets a little bit sick with the stabilization used when he moves the camera around? 😢
How do you actually know what parts are missing when you're buying a car like this?
why is there like no likes or comments on this video
Punt It 😀
hello i have upgraded a lot of stuff on my car if you need anything i can sell it to you haha they are brand new like intercooler oil cooler airfilter etc
That bit isn't that bent mate.
Mate of mine has a tuscan and has the same problem getting hold of parts is a bitch
Did Hyundai correct you on your pronunciation when you called them? 😅
No 👀 but i will continue to say it wrong out of choice
@@Chris_Slix haha 😅
you left your phone number and address and also the cars vin on the quote you might wanna blur that out just at the bit where you start looking for parts
8:58 - have your neighbours had enough of all the crash damaged cars you bring home? Is that why they've sold the house? 😁
😂
😂😂😂😂 nah they like what i do luckily! They’ve been so sound. Hopefully the next one is just as good.
Hyundai parts are and always have been are very expensive. Its never cheap to grab bits for one of these.
He’s a professional but he has bear tools mate stick to detailing
If you can’t straighten that metal part , you shouldn’t be trying to fix crashed damaged cars🤔🤛
If i did that people would still moan 😂 cant please everyone
That is such a defeatist and poor attitude. If everyone had that attitude nothing would be learnt by doing and applying yourself to a situation. Human beings have achieved greatness through grit, determination and just giving it a go. Best of luck Chris and don’t listen to the haters, you do you. 👍👍
Looks and sounds like someone else on UA-cam???
Mat Armstrong copy
This guy copied mat or other way round.
Not a good image promoting beer
Seconded. I know small UA-camrs can’t pick and choose but considering it’s illegal and highly dangerous to drink and drive, very bad idea.
Get a grip 😂
Reading this while sipping on a beer52 😂
@@CUCKSON1990 thanks for agreeing with me
I just don't think it's something that should be advertised especially on UA-cam along with gambling and these stupid car gambling sites like BOTB. They are rinsing those hard of thinking youths
I useless video
