This was an easy install and is really necessary to maintain your outboard properly.

i’ve been having issues with mine cutting out, should i try tucking the wire away like this to avoid electrical interference? it only reads when i hold it far from the motor

Yes, I came here for the install... I have a slightly different meter on my Suzuki 4hp, and have to put one on my Suzuki 15hp when it arrives in 2 days. Is the idle on that Merc really that low? It was showing 550 RPM. My DF4A idle spec is around 1100, but it's a single cylinder engine, so maybe that's the difference.
Great video ty. I really know nothing about outboard motors but recently bought myself an 11 foot inflatable dinghy and a 4 stroke 6hp merc outboard. I'm giving you all the info I know about the motor. It only has a pull start and it's 1 cylinder. I've also got the same tach. Will this work the same way on my motor? Thanks for the silicon idea. I was wondering how I was going to run that wire. I've already got this tach meter, the 4 stroke 1 cylinder outboard and dinghy.

What spark program are you running it on 2p1r or 1P1r?
I used the 2p. You can try both and you will see one is way to high for idle
I don't understand the lowest number I was able to get was 3000 RPM but it's definitely not running that high its at least 1500
Look in the setup. It’s been while but I think there was an option for number of cylinders or it might have been 2 stroke vs 4

There's a hole in the tach meter to feed one end of the wire into. You can see at 3:58 in the video how he wrapped the other end of the wire around the spark plug wire
