Nicky you always COOK when it comes to music commentary. you always credit and take the time to understand overlooked marginalised communities (African & Gay contributions) and when you don’t like something you explain why in a very respectful articulate manner plus your previous marketing knowledge ties everything together beautifully. Thanks so much for all the videos you’ve given us this year. Happy holidays! Can’t wait to see what you do next year ❤
HOTTOGO is quite literally the new YMCA. I heard it everywhere including at an NFL game in the midwest. I saw Chapel live in March of this year when she opened for Olivia and back then not many people knew her. I really think its been her year. To go from pratically a nobody in the music industry to headlining Coachella and Lollapalooza is insane.
TTPD saw me through exam season, went triple platinum in my house😂 I understand why it didn't resonate with people, it's her most lore heavy album yet, and the writing sprawls like a 1950s Biblical Epic. For her hardcore fanbase, that's a plus-plus, while for the casual listener I'm sure it left them scratching their heads😅
@jadededlll We truly lost with the promoted singles😭 I was like, ghurl I can name 5 bangers in the album you could've chosen as singles besides Fortnite
personally, I think that Sabrina Carpenter had the best year. I also know that Chappell Roan, and other artists had amazing years for them, but I think that Brina especially stood out against all the other artists. It took her such long time to get where she is, and she's worked so hard to be as big as she currently is. she's gone from a Disney child star, to a literal ICON that will be remembered in many many years. she's made such an amazing impact on pop culture, and Ive loved watching her grow as an artist. after she "escaped" Disney, she was "tied down" to a record company and HAD to put out music that she didn't fully like and that was for the most part, written for her. she was forced to put out multiple albums, before finally being "freed", and being abled to put out the music SHE likes, and SHE writes. also, we need to give her credit for being able to successfully not be known as just a former, "crazy", Disney kid/star, after being on popular show. and its amazing how she's able to differentiate being a "crazy" old Disney star, since we know many famous actors, who have gone "crazy" after being in the Disney show business, as a chid. lets give her credit for being able to do and talk about things that aren't exactly for younger audiences, without being labeled a "crazy" and "unhinged" former Disney star. its so impressive how she's written and made her own brand from scratch. she had nothing to go from, and built her reputation from the ground, up. she can influence MILLIONS, while still being true to herself. She speaks to so many people, including me, through her lyrics. she can make anyone look at a kiss mark, a cutout, or the color blue, and think about her. that's why she is so powerful. and as you've said, "it takes 10 years to be an overnight suspect" she has bubbly, pink, pop songs that you can dance to, and she has slow, poetic, and truthful songs, that almost every teenage girl can relate to. and that's why, for me, Sabrina Carpenter has been the greatest artist, and has had the best year.
Sabrina Carpenter was named as 2nd Greatest Artist of 2024 by the billboards (Tours, Performances, Charts) Carpenter managed all of her 12 songs in “Short n’ Sweet” debuted inside the top 40 on the BillBoard Hot 100 Sabrina earned her first #1 album on the billboard 200 Carpenter earned 6 grammy nominations Carpenter with her Espresso crowned as one of the most streamed song on spotify 2024 with 1.7 billion streams and Apple Music too And her album Short n Sweet ranked 4th? or 3rd as most streamed album of 2024 (4.6 billion streams) Her 3 singles (Espresso, PX3 and Taste) managed to get into the top 3 to top 1 at the billboards hot Also one of six female artist to chart multiple projects inside the top 10 on billboard history (Short n’ Sweet, Fruitcake) 8th biggest sales vinyl week on billboard 200’s history (Short n’ sweet, 105k) Really this was her year sm, i know the list may sound ‘nothing too special about’ but js yk how she did so well and had great achievements this year of 2024 is shows how truly 2024 was her year. People may disagree me on here and it’s fine, people can have opinions as well but yk i feel like nobody noticed that much how good and high sabrina did on the charts, tours or whatever nobody just understood how well she did and just keeps getting hate on her
TTPD only started to click after August for me...I think you should give it another try, there are some gems in there and some of Taylor's most devastatingly beautiful lyrics (loml, smallest man, how did it end, the prophecy)
Don't really understand why album variations recieve so much credit for a song/album going #1. People wouldn't be buying different variations if they didn't love the original. Personally, I don't buy any hard copies of music but I ended up buying TTPD + Anthology on vinyl because it became one of my favourite albums and I listened to it constantly this year. Yes, if she didn't release it, I wouldn't have bought the normal TTPD vinyl, but also if I didn't LOVE TTPD, I wouldn't have bought it. I don't think there's a large demographic who are purchasing every variation just because they want to collect them.
I honestly feel like you have to include Tyler the creator onto this list aswell. He’s been proving himself so much on how he balances creative integrity and commercial success while wearing all of his influences and appreciation for people on his sleeve. Also, fun fact, if his album was released on a Friday instead of a Monday, it would have had the 2nd highest 1st week of the year. Btw, amazing video!😊
With the Spotify Wrapped thing, i see you and i understand you!!! My top artist were literally My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil, Chappell Roan, Jack off Jill and Kim Petras, which is the weirdest combo I've ever seen...
Whenever I hear the songs eternal sunshine and I wish I hated you, I cry. So my album of the year is Eternal sunshine even though it didn't dominate 2024
For me I’d have to give it to charli and the sheer cultural success brat had. In the royal court episode she did she talked about how what she thinks makes an artist is someone who has a steadfast vision and ultimately makes a change in culture and I really think brat embodies that. For me it’s the most iconic album released this year and when we look back 10,20,30 years from now it will be regarded as one of the most legendary moments in music pop culture.

for me Billie had biggest year since when we all fall asleep, where do we go! , almost song with 2 bilion streams. It hasn't even been a year and album has over 5 bilion streams which is insane considering that album has only 10 songs! and Wildflower will soon be most streamed non single song in history (passing eminem)
I discovered you via Share Your Screen but I’ve honestly enjoyed your solo content so much more!! Wishing you both the best and congratulations on all your success this year!!
Question. And I mean this kindly, why should Taylor or any other artist "give way" to other artists? This is business, u don't ask McDonald's to stop making sandwiches to give burger king room. Is it greedy? Yes, but why should she be expected to give way to others? No one else gets that criticism. My biggest criticism of ttpd is that it couldve been 15 songs and she shouldve promoted the better songs off the album. But u cannot, and should not, expect someone of her status and stature to "give way" to others
None else gets that criticism because none else at her level has made a pop career out of being the relatable girl next door, however that has been embodied in each one of her eras. That, along with seemingly being protective and supportive of younger female artists, comes across as disingenuous to non-swifties, who already have the greedy ruthless capitalist image of her in mind, mainly because of the private jet situation (and, obviously, sexism and misogyny, since male celebrities are not being held to the same standard). It's not that she's literally expected to explicitly give up the number one spot, it's that when she gets out of her way to essentially sabotage what could be someone else's first and only moment achieving what she has time and time again, it comes off as petty and hypocritical.
1:17 SAME. Mainstream music really served this year, there's no sign of alternative/underground music in my spotify wrapped lol I feel basic but I dont regret it
Nicky you’re predictions are already coming true, in on of you last vids you said that the artist “Lolayounggg” would be the new pop icon of 2025 and her songs have been going viral lately soo who knows maybe she will be the next big artist of 2025, but who knows happy early holidays and keep up the amazing content ❤❤❤ 🥰
Eternal Sunshine and Positions are sister albums in my opinion. Eternal Sunshine is the tragic sequel of the horny rom-com Positions was. I've never been interested in the Grammys but I'm so tuning in this year because the competition really is tough and they're all artists I love or listen to
I don’t listen to majority of this list but I’d say Sabrina should win album of the year. Kendrick Should win song of the year for Not Like Us. As for next year I have a feeling it will be bigger!! As for Beyoncé I think her third installment will break the industry especially if it is a pop rock album similar to “Don’t Hurt Yourself”. But I don’t think she will win this year at least for album of the year. I need to give the album a listen admittedly I’ve been sleeping on Beyoncé but “MOST WANTED” is such a beautiful song.
Your commentary on Taylor’s variants is incorrect! There were only 5 variants of CD & Vinyl which includes the Anthology. Any digital releases do not play a part in chart position. In fact BRAT has had way more variants than TTPD and still couldn’t reach number one! Get your facts correct before spouting nonsense
Brat has achieved great commercial success but the number of people who are actually streaming the album isn’t as high as social media leads you to believe. It’s ridiculous that some people think the USA is the world. In reality, there are people from other countries (considering me) who are also streaming Brat, but the level of popularity may not be as high Short 'n Sweet has also achieved commercial success with a higher amount of people actually streaming it
TTPD might be my album of the year but it’s not the album of the year unfortunately the marketing wasn’t good And also It’s insane that Eternal sunshine wasn’t even nominated for AOTY! It’s her best album yet in my opinion
25:03 ok no it’s not the same thing it’s a live version mash up Nicky. You’re making it out like she put out the exact same track twice with different letters capitalized and that is just not true 🙄
Personally, I’d have to say I think Charli or Billie were top artists of the year! Both of them were such powerhouses and created such a cultural impact!
Charli hands down should win AOY Then again maybe it should be Beyoncé because I don’t want any of the other girls to die 😂 Also as a Swiftie, 1000% this is her worst album.
I think the beauty of music is that it all resonates with us differently!! And our favorites can even change based on where we are in our lives and our emotional state at that time :)
I definitely understand everyone having their own opinions on music but lying about objective facts about TTPD just makes it feels like your personal biases coming into play here. NONE of the first week achievements you mentioned were affected by digital variants which were released later on during May. Undermining her records which were 100% organic to your audience makes it seem like your journalism isn’t as good faith as showcased. Similarly, the “the most egregious example” was another lie, it was live mashup of Mean (2010) and thank you, aimee completely different from the original recording. We all our opinions about music which we are entitled too but altering facts is not something we can write off as own opinions. I have loved your channel and your content but this is sad to see.
100% agree. His commentary around this sounds like his research only stems from clickbait titles. TTPD was so much bigger than every other album this year even excluding all variants.
@ exactly, the article he cited had misleading information as it counts cds, vinyls, cassettes as different variant. I could do the same thing for any album and reach the number 30.
i am a swiftie and i fucking love ttpd but the marketing of the album through vynails and Variations is outrageous and stupid and it's giving money hunger like gurl u are a Billionaire
I started off the year really thinking I would be all over Taylor’s TTPD but was actually really underwhelmed. I’m a long time Swifty but felt like a lot of the album was a regression in maturity. Because I got bored of it I looked elsewhere and discovered Chappel. I think the first time I heard of Chappel was on your show with Coco. And for me personally Chappel is the standout of 2024. I also loved 360 and Short N Sweet. Though I totally agree that Emails I can’t send is the better album. Vicious is 🔥
@ ahhh a Nicky response! I have enjoyed your content so much this year and you deserve all the flowers. I’ve been taking a lot of the stuff you’ve said about the 10 years and how artists need to create a world to heart and applying it to my own art (not music but arts and crafts projects lol). If I blow up I’m def crediting you lol.
I think Beyoncé and Taylor are beyond worrying about having singles. Radio doesn’t really exist anymore, so there isn’t really any point these days. I agree, TTPD is pretty bad, however The Anthology half is definitely in her top 3.
For me it's either Charli or Sabrina. No one else had such an impact on pop culture throughout the year and I mean that as a non American. Brat was a movement indeed and Sabrina had like 3 or 4 songs in the Top 10, like wow
24:50 Literally the tweet you show right after tells us that it is the live version from the eras tour mashed up with Mean + another live version from a different song for digital purchase and not just the song with different capital letters, so tf is going? 😂 You really desperately do your best to hop on the Taylor hate train just cause you didn't get the artistry and appeal of the masterpiece that is TTPD.
All art is subjective. Not everyone has the same opinion, and that is the beauty of it. It’s okay if something doesn’t resonate with one person and does resonate with another. No one is ever wrong for sharing their opinion
I genuinely had no idea Ariana grande had an album come out this year. All of the other artists you mentioned I heard about them EVERYWHERE. People never stopped talking about them but I don’t remember hearing anything when Ariana’s album came out.

Yesss myself as a true Swiftie was offended when he said that bruh they don't understand ttpd ttpd is my 3rd fav Taylor album bruh😢😢
Vicious is 🔥
Vicious is SOOOO slept on
@ ahhh a Nicky response!
Chappell!!!!!!
I think Beyoncé and Taylor are beyond worrying about having singles. Radio doesn’t really exist anymore, so there isn’t really any point these days. I agree, TTPD is pretty bad, however The Anthology half is definitely in her top 3.
Ari got robbed
Not Taylor that’s for sure
I hope to dear god Taylor Swift wins nothing for her album. Completely agreed it’s her worst yet.
For me it's either Charli or Sabrina. No one else had such an impact on pop culture throughout the year and I mean that as a non American. Brat was a movement indeed and Sabrina had like 3 or 4 songs in the Top 10, like wow
Peace and love, but not my eyes widening when he said TTPD is her worst album. I’m dead haha. 😂
@nicky.reardon you know very well I am not talking about your opinion, but your shady behaviour on display...
I genuinely had no idea Ariana grande had an album come out this year. All of the other artists you mentioned I heard about them EVERYWHERE. People never stopped talking about them but I don’t remember hearing anything when Ariana’s album came out.
love this idea! An amazing year for pop🩷
