Great upload. A couple of things I noticed: Roy Steele as the PA announcer; 2:35 the vendor selling pretzels is still vending at games as of 2019; All of the orange seats hadn't been replaced; 11:25 the runner looked safe; 11:50 Banjo Man still makes his rounds today;
This is awesome footage! The 90s seem ancient at this point. I grew up watching my Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium but I went to the Oakland Coliseum once and that was in July of 1996 and I was 12 at the time. The A’s played the Orioles and “The Macarena” was the highlight of the night. Mt. Davis looked steep!
Love hearing Roy Steele's voice again. It wasn't just that though, the noise in the background is so reminiscent of fun days at the ballpark. Vendors, prop planes flying over, etc. Cool thing is, I worked for the A's in 1997 as my internship. I did camera work, watched out of town games, video booth, etc. Everything for the Jumbotron!
@@tizzdellThe Raiders are Oakland's "rooted" team the Coliseum was built for us not baseball or basketball. The Warriors are from Philadelphia/San Francisco and the A's from Kansas city. Oakland should have kicked out the A's and priority football
@sirchi8731 Are you a fan? If so that's a cold blooded assessment of the A's as opposed to the raiders and warriors. The warriors played at the coliseum / oracle arena for 48 seasons. The A's brought more success to oakland in a short period of time than the raiders. Between 1967 and 1977 the raiders went to the AFL/AFC championship game 9 times and only made it to two superbowls during that span. The early success of the oakland athletics is second to only the new york yankees. Five ALCS appearances in the first 8 years between 1968 and 1975. Which included 3 consecutive world series championships. Please have a heart man. Al Davis is the blame for everything that went wrong with the coliseum. He couldn't get with he wanted in los angeles, do he returned to oakland and messed up a beautiful multi purpose stadium.
@@johnwalker4329 football is king. Raiders will always be more popular then the A's. The Coliseum was built in 1966 for the Raiders..meanwhile the A's was in Kansas city 😂😂
I remember back then I was his age but I lived in Toronto lol and I was a Jays fan lol this video brought good memories up :) thank you so much for uploading this video:)
Great video! But, what a disaster Mt. Davis would end up being. The worst padt is that those seats would end up not being used most of the time for Raider games.
Crazy to realize this team finished in third at 78-84. They wouldn't make the postseason until 2000, which started 4 straight playoff appearances including money ball winning 103 games in 2001and 102 wins in 2002.
what an absolute tragedy of an idea. The worst, worst thing the city of Oakland ever agreed to. The town lost ALL 3 of its teams because of what they did to this park for the LA Raiders.
The Giambino was hitting third and Big Mac at cleanup. This was when the A’s had good players but couldn’t put it all together. Then they got the opposite problem, they had to get cheap players and were better managed but never got over the hump. Love the Orange baseball, Charlie O really did love the fans (allegedly more than he did the players if you ask the players lol) he thought the Orange ball would be better for night games. He also scheduled more night games so working people could attend.
The mix of green and orange seats is very strange. Not to sound like a UA-cam ad, but go to my page if you want to see a video about the different forms of the Oakland Coliseum, including its pre-renovation look.
+YOSHI YO (The Charismatic Legend) not really the Raiders were there since the stadium was built but they just moved to LA for like 12 years then they came back
The city wanted the Raiders back. Since Al Davis is cheap I believe the only way the city could get him to agree to return the team is if the Coliseum added 20K seats to the stadium.
Logically the Raiders should never have returned. Ruined a ballpark. Ruined Oakland's economy. They were doing perfectly fine in Los Angeles. Took them forever to build a good team, only to be defeated in the Super Bowl and never recover.
He actually went with us as a family of 4 to games, before this. However, this was our first father/son only game. My father took me to my first game when I was ten exactly on May 11. Last year I took my 10 year old grandson to our first game together, and he's in Seattle WA, so we saw the A's at Safeco/Seattle.
Im from oakland been here all my life...when the raiders left i was pissed but its nothing new...when the warriors finished their new stadium in sf...it was only a matter of time...but if my A's leave im going to be really hurt! Build the park...they deserve it!!! LETS GO OAK-LAND!!!

I'm a diehard raiders fan but I feel bad for the A's and their fans because of Al Davis ruining the ballpark
Hello! I know you may not see this but after the raiders move, do you still follow them

Thanks for sharing this, it certainly brought back some memories! Banjo man looks the same...haha.
What a gem, thank you for posting! 🐘
Beautiful video brother, sharing the moment and day with your son! I look forward to doing the same with my boy. OAKLAND SPORTS FOREVER !!
RIP Roy Steele. Coliseum hasn’t sounded the same since.
Raiders ruined a great ballpark. hell of a job for those construction workers though. they got to watch baseball while they worked!
Max Payne He wanted to sell "more" tickets... the sheer gall of that.

It was always funny to watch the construction workers stop their work and perform the YMCA dance when the song came on...good times.
j johnson Need to find some video of that. ICE BOX!
Beginning of the end for this ballpark. That view you got overlooking the hillside was one of the best in mlb

This brings back so many memories, going to the game as a kid and loving when the construction workers would stop and do the YMCA
Good ol' Roy Steele at the mic.
When the Raiders leave, Mt Davis must be demolished. Post haste.
Why didn’t players say something about them working on the stadium during the game ?

The raiders should have built their own stadium instead

@@WaluigiLebron wrong! You must have been kidding back then. The raiders where in Oakland in 1960 til 82, then returned in 96 from LA.
Over 20,000 fans for a afternoon game.
Im here in 2021 sad the raiders have left us
This is definitely lost footage because this during a stretch when they on went to the postseason 3 times between 1990 and 2000.
🤔they still played in the stadium like that back then
It was a nice place for baseball until they have decided to ugly it up
