This is a great channel! Watched most of it so far and what Dries is telling you is acute. It's the same type of things I teach the artist I work with every day at zero profit Orphanage Gallery that sold 450 works last year and its only open 36 days a year. and other galleries I own and run. This is the man to listen to if your an artist starting out. Hands down without a doubt. He is saving you decades of mistakes. He is way better than most of the art gurus out there. Best of all you can tell he's still learning each day about the art business which tells me he's doing this stuff he talks about. Could I say more about how good this stuff is Yes I could. - Bill Montana
Wow... Thanks Bill. I always try to disconnect myself from the comments I get because otherwise I'm putting value on vanity metrics (comments and likes) instead of real business results. But this comment definitely touched me... Thanks Bill
@@RolledtightRecords me too. Is that a thing? Would make life easy but is that the answer? I would guess that it would break his rule of having connection with a commissioner tho. Dries is smart!!!! I will follow his guide! Much LOVE, Much PEACE, Much KINDNESS to all!!!
@@RolledtightRecords look for artist managers. My partner helped me get my artwork into a gallery by managing me. I had the artwork but they helped me focus on which areas and galleries to target and also was a great motivator. This guy knows what he’s talking about he mentioned how artist are unorganized for the most part and focus on the art so basically a manager is what some artist need in my opinion.
Driiiiiiies. I’ve gotten addicted to your voice as I’m overhauling my website and portfolio. After about a decade of abandoning my art for more “practical” things (like burning myself out in car sales 💀 very practical 😂), I’ve created a new Instagram account and am drilling down on creating sales in 2022 & beyond. Thank you for all your delicious, helpful content. And your work is lovely, too. ❤️
You are way too friendly Lauren and for people like you who like my voice I would highly recommend listening to Ben Howard or something. If you already like my averageness you will be amazed of what he can do with his voice.
I love your passion! Your perspective on gaining buyers is the most refreshing I have heard. So many just focus on the needs of the artist rather than the client and our common ground. Thanks.
Also, a good bridge towards making sales is to invite collectors you meet, or people you meet at openings to your art studio. I've invited collectors, couples, art mangers to my studio in the past and having some kind of open studio day/afternoon is a nice way to connect. They might see a piece of work they want or want to come back to see your progress. And inviting journalists (who write about cultural/art events) is a good one. I found that they enjoy the kind of "front row seat" experience, especailly of you are a rising star in the community/amongst local galleries that they might also be writing about.
Thank you for your excellent perspective. I have watched quite a few of your videos this morning and am really looking forward to incorporating your insights into my client relationships. Thank you so much ❤❤
What you said at 12:00 really struck me, it finally helped understand that written form on a virtual platform is actually as important as written form through writing letters. Instrumental stuff. I love your attention to detail on human psychology and how you limit yourself from being so outwardly mechanical on approaching humans. HA
I have noticed that many of the creative people I follow most don't have that many posts! It happens on patreon though. I didn't want lots of followers until now because my art wasn't where I wanted it to be. That's excellent advice, Dries. It would work better for me than trying to get likes and follows. I've always had friendships that are deep instead of wide.
This is so insightful, thanks man! THANKS for the real advice on how to start getting into business. It gives us the courage and the confidence to do what we artists dream of. I love your crazy hair and attitude, you seem like a fun person to hang out in real life.
Hell Dries! First of all,I'm happy to find your video's on UA-cam and i have started following you,and can't get enough of you! Second, I would like to take your offer and ask you a question: In this video you're talking of reason why collectors buy paintings and if i understood correctly, one of the reason is the story! My question is: when i decide to post picture of my painting do i write a stosy how i was inspired and what kind of feelings have I had while painting this peace and etc? Also should I make short video of the same painting to go with picture and story? Thank you so much for your time! P.S. I love your work!
Amazing effort with this channel man. Thanks! p.s Damien Hirst is nothing like a good artist let alone the best, he happened to meet someone who used his connections to rocket him to fame and greedy collectors jumped on board to make a profit. best wishes
Dear Dries, I don't mean to polemize but I just found out about your videos, it's all very interesting but it's one more video of an artist teaching artists how to sell online or toherwise. I wonder if these artists do these videos simply because they don't have so many buyers as they claim and they try to survive with this videos. I'm not saying it's your personal case but this is just a doubt I have.
Thanks for giving an actionable exercise. I always hear about build a direct connection but I never really understand how you are supposed to start that process.
I'm listening to this video with auto-generated and auto-translated subtitles and sometimes they are so funny like "collectors of eyes" or "ass collectors", "actor's lectures" I just can't stop laughing lol
i would actually buy art because of the energy of the painting or how the energy of the painter feels to me. If these dont feel good to me and if the painting doesnt spark something astonishing inside me, i wouldnt want that piece of art in my house. This is also the reason why i watch your channel. I am drawn to your vibe and your enthusiasm. Even if the content of a channel or painting is awesome, if i dont like the vibe of the presenter/painter, i cant follow or buy anything from him/her. Would you agree?
I would actually agree... And there are many people who behave and think like that but then there are also other people who have different ways. There's no one size fits all of course. Anyway thanks for your kind words, you are the kindest.
So when people say they want to buy something of mine but have to “do it next week” should I keep following up even when after say two attempts they still can’t? Would t leaving them be keep them from getting annoyed with me? Also they might not be serious I often think they are just saying it

Hi Dries, I opened my ig account this year (now I have 1.030 followers) and like to use a lot of different techniques. I want to sell art, so I do commisions and people want different styles, so I do all of them and post on my feed, so one day I have the portrait of colored pencils and other day I post landscape (oil on canvas) that is on sale. I really enjoy all of them and wrote in my bio that I use a lot of tecniques, but is it bad? Is it bad that I'm not unique and don't have my own style? Or could I use this as my power and start selling more?
Dude, you should record an audiobook or something, you have such an engaging, dramatic speaking style that is easy to follow at the same time. I'm mean the fact that you're hot is a little distracting I have to admit. 😂

It's pretty funny you were talking about the best of the best, and then immediately jump to Damien Hirst. Dude. You're way better than Damien Hirst.
You are way too kind, we both know that that is not true. But it does make me happy, thanks for your lovely compliment. Made my day.
How to get collectors and contacts them and build connections with them building relationship with??
Please help in that aspect??
What name appears on your paintings

Is the same for Curators? Cause in brazil I can`t find anyone that have the name of Colector on bio or that 'look like' a colector on feed.
There are some cue's that you can look out for but it's not too easy indeed.
omg ahaha I also used to play a lot of tennis x) awesome coincidence

So basically
If you want to sell art, think like an art collector 🌈
Yes that sums it up. Empathy is king
You have to think like a pro seller ...!Art collector is collecting not selling there are two diffrent thinks ..!
Also could you offer us some questions that you ask to get conversation started? like a script idea because its hard to know
I would love to... I'm busy building those resources for artists as we speak. More on that in my next video
