    He was such an impeccable actor; so physical, so emotional, absolutely relentless on our emotions. No finer actor than Lon Chaney.

    Based on the Dvd covers this movie was nothing like I expected but still amazing and I agree instant favorite ending. Some really quality silent acting here from people (outside of Chaney) I am unfamiliar with.

    I love how they make Fallbrook sound so otherworldly Lol.

    Interestingly enough, William D. Pelley, who wrote the story, later went on to form the Silver Legion of America.

    Mr Chaney was cursed with a somewhat cruel face, which perhaps limited the roles he was offered when his fame grew. By all accounts he was the kindest and gentlest of men.

      +Tony Curr In the film "Tell it to The Marines," he plays a sympathetic character, and was so appreciated by the USMC, they made him an honorary marine. And, just like many of his movies, the suffered from unrequited love in it.

      Tony Curr Where you see a cruel face, many see a man who has lived a life that would have destroyed most men and an extremely expressive face capable of an extraordinary range of emotions.

    Excellent movie. I suggest muting the volume to focus on the film rather than the terrible circus/trapeze artist music

    It was called "The Man Who Laughs", with Conrad Veidt in the title role.

    This music choice really doesn't fit the mood of the story most of the time.

    I think Lon Chaney did the make up for a film Called "The man who couldn't stop smiling" about a man whose face was frozen into a grin. But I havn't been able to find any information on it.

      DayDreamBeliever1961 The film's correct title is The Man Who Laughs based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name. It is based on real life history and stars Conrad Veidt of Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (silent 1928) and who later played the Nazi that Rick (Bogart) shoots at the end of Casablanca. ALL of his films are worth watching and if you're a history buff be sure to read the background of Man/Laughs...fascinating and disturbing piece of British history not widely known in USA.

      Mike Carr See my lengthy response to DayDreamBeliever1961. The correct title is the same as the source novel by Victor Hugo: The Man Who LAUGHS.

      i saw the film & it was a gypsy spell..or something that made a small boys face become that hideous grin...Which by the way was the inspirationfor the character of the joker

    • @finncullen
      @finncullen 3 роки тому +1

      @@TabithaReminiec3399 It wasn't a gypsy spell -it was a mutilation by knives inflicted on children so they could be used as beggars or displayed in travelling shows - the novel goes into more detail
