I also got this on my feed just after the announcement of Maggie Smith's death. In this movie, she appears with Hugh Bonneville. They would later work together again on Downton Abbey, of which I have the box set and enjoy watching. I also have the box set for the Harry Potter series. I am such a fan. Oddly enough, on the night just before she died, I binged a few of her older works like on the Carol Burnett show where she was Bubba's teacher. It was quite coincidental. Dame Maggie did a lifetime of great work entertaining. Rest peacefully, lovely lady!

In this movie with beautiful and talented Maggie Smith one can see the power of friendships created with alive humans and ghosts. It's truly extraordinary, I find this movie fascinating. Sweet, charming and sad ghost story about family ties and secrets. Maggie and the rest of the cast inhabit their characters rather than merely "acting" them.
I saw her first in the Harry Potter movies and have loved her since. She is very genuine and refined in her acting skills. Now that many have recommended her other movies, i am going to try and watch as many of them as possible. RIP Maggie. You are sorely missed by your fans.

In case anybody liked the story, it came from a series of books written by (I think) L.M. Boston. The first book is "The Children of Green Knowe", which was also made into a movie that's on UA-cam. I've been reading these books ever since I found them back in 1967. YT also has a great 1975 version of "The Secret Garden". I love English films.
I'd somehow missed this film until now and I'm so glad that I stumbled upon it. A truly charming, quintessentially British film with, as a massive added bonus, the wonderful Dame Maggie Smith in the quality cast.
This is such a beautiful film, so well made and the actors so authentic and talented, it never gets old. I've watched it a few times and I never tire of it.
Its good to see the beadle/scabbers actor do a nice and friendly part and Maggie being not stern and distant like in so many movies, but also not in Ladies in Lavender. Thanks for uploading.

I often see my father, who died in 1994 , as clear as if he was real, in my dreams. My dreams are obviously a confabulation of all that I have experienced in my 82 years. I'd somehow missed this film until now and I'm so glad that I stumbled upon it. A truly charming, quintessentially British film with, as a massive added bonus, the wonderful Dame Maggie Smith in the quality cast.
This is such a beautiful film, so well made and the actors so authentic and talented, it never gets old. I've watched it a few times and I never tire of it.
I was introduced to her first in Downton Abby and have loved her ever since. She was An amazing actress.

I often see my father, who died in 1994 , as clear as if he was real, in my dreams.
My dreams are obviously a confabulation of all that I have experienced in my 82 years. All my actual experiences including every film, every radio play, every fleeting encounter that I have had in those years.
These experiences are intertwined in my brain and, more often than not, are the fabrications of those experiences that are part of my reality.
