    1xCup H2O, 1xCup almond milk, 1xCup rolled/old fashioned oats, using the "porridge" button and reducing the time to 3mins. It took almost 22mins to tell us what should have taken one or two minutes. I was pulling my hair out! It was like when I was a kid and my mom was taking pictures. "TAKE THE DAMN PICTURE MOM!!!!!"

    11:10 is when the recipe begins.
    Thank you very much for this recipe, first of all! I just made this and it is some of the best oatmeal I’ve ever made. I have a few recommendations for future videos.
    I think it’d be best if you split videos like this or make time stamps available so people can skip to parts like the recipe beginning. About half of your video is an introduction that could be its own video and you could link it in the description if anyone wants it and you can mention it here before the video starts for people to check it out, like if someone is a newbie and wants some of your personal tips and tricks.
    Additionally, it was difficult to know the exact amounts you used. But definitely thank you for putting it in the description! I think it’s best to mention just the amount used and try not to include other numbers as it’s confusing for viewers. When you were talking about the number for oatmeal, you mentioned your 1/3 cup a lot and I got confused thinking it was 1/3 of a cup of oatmeal you were adding, not 1 cup. Best is to include a short little caption below as words so it’s clear to the viewer.
    But again, thank you for the recipe! It came out great and I look forward to seeing more of your recipes.

    I would use the instant pot for my steel cut oats but oatmeal is easier in microwave. 1/2 cup oats in bowl, toss in cup of frozen berries, 2/3 cup water for 3 minutes. Never overflows and is perfect.

    I've learned a lot teaching remotely this year. The shorter the video...the better. When I scroll through "how to" videos I look for the ones that don't have talking and are 1-2 mins long. Less truly is more when making videos.

    A problem I have cooking oatmeal in the microwave is it usually boils over and creates a mess. I started doing overnight oats, but they still boil over if I try to heat them in the microwave the next morning. I’ll have to try the Instant Pot. I’m wondering if I could use a pot in pot method so I could only make a single serving. Of course, I could probably use the Instant Pot for reheating too.

    after experimenting different times, i settled for Manual 9 minutes with NR and i'm happy how it comes out. After eating steel cuts for months (i ran out) and had to eat Old fashioned...man. i could tell the difference and din't care for it ..i wonder if it was done too long..i'm going to tinker with diff times on the old fashion3ed. anyone tried doing old fashion..if so how mnay minutes manual were u happy with? i did 3-4m manual with NR but wans't that pleased...tried 1 m with nr....i used to do it over the stove and was ok with it..i wonder if it's bc my pallet just got used to steel cuts?

    So one of the questions/answers said NOT to change the cooking time if making more than one cup. What if cooking 4 -5 cups oatmeal? Would I still use btw 8 - 10 cups liquid and only cook for 3 minutes w/ Porridge button? I'd like to make it for a breakfast crowd and want to make a lot. Thanks.

    That discoloration is because the cooking pot is a low grade stainless steel. It's not 18/8 and 18/10 grade. It's in the 4 range and discolors quickly like that. Proper high grade stainless steels cooks more evenly, cleans up nicer and stays good looking forever. The 18/8 referred to in the ads is the little rack that comes with it and the outside material of the cooker.

    I follow the directions exactly. I keep getting a Burn Notice. I was cooking my oats this way in the beginning when I first bought my instant pot and it works perfect. We have high humidity here in Florida will that affect the cooking? I love cooking the oats in the instant pot because they taste so great lately it has not been working instant pot even sent me a new instant pot thinking line was overheating and it still wants to burn. They suggest doing pot in pot method. Do you have any thoughts on why I keep getting a Burn Notice? My inner pot is clean and shiny.

    • @PrepWhisperer
      @PrepWhisperer  4 роки тому +2

      I hate that burn notice. I get that sometimes too. Try to not stir too mic so that more liquid sits at the bottom !! That has helped me too !! Sorry not sure of the humidity factor ...

    PrepWhisperer thank you so much for sharing this tutorial, I was trying to find out what Porridge is and is how I found your video. So porridge is oatmeal? I am asking because I seen different answers some people say tes and some say no.

    • @PrepWhisperer
      @PrepWhisperer  5 років тому +2

      Oatmeal is a type of porridge, and the two terms are often used interchangeably, but not all porridge is made from oats. A porridge is a hot cereal that can be made from a variety of grains, vegetables or even some legumes

    What size instapot did you use? Also what size would you recommend to buy if you don’t have any. I have a family of 5 but I often don’t cook for everyone cuz they are older and all are picky. Most of the time I cook for 2 to 4 people.

    • @PrepWhisperer
      @PrepWhisperer  5 років тому +3

      There are only two of us in my household and I have both the 6 quart and the 8 quart. But if you were only going to be cooking most the time for 2 to 4 you can get either one depending on if when you cook you meal prep or not. So what I mean is that, when I make meals I am sometimes double or triple the recipe so that I have leftovers for lunches and such. If that’s the case I would go with the 8 quart, if not the 6 quart should work fine!! I am so excited that you’re going to purchase an instant pot as you are going to love it !

      @dollycarter8810 4 роки тому

      Just letting you know that the smell of garlic, onions and some other foods such as cabbage WILL remain in the ring. I've washed mine several times and even hung it on a rack afterwards to let it "air" and still smell the ingredients of my last use in it. I would definitely change rings. I'm pretty sure she does the same.

    • @MrAllenClemo
      @MrAllenClemo 4 роки тому +1

      @@dollycarter8810 Yes, but you don't know if she does. I don't EVER have an issue with lingering smells, well not to the extent that any slight feint of feintest smells are strong enough to intrude on whatever is cooking next.
      Wash thoroughly is my suggestion and, frankly, I am amazed people even comment on this subject. Have we really forgotten to how to wash up properly. I use a conventional pressure cooker which has an identical rubber sealing ring. Again, no odours linger to any significant degree. Just wash properly in detergent and dry thoroughly. I really cannot see what the problem is.
