Those Jack Wolf were and are a big breath of fresh air. And the air was getting stale. Wicked Vid paddy.

Very nice, I particularly like the look of the hedgehog, both blade and handle.

I really like the looks of the Hedgehog. I haven't picked it up yet really just because I'm so used to having a pocket clip. But that one's on my want list.

Recently purchased the hedgehog as an introduction to slipjoints. Can't wait for it to be delivered! I've only heard good things about it

How about a case Mini trapper? All the working cowboys around here carry CV trappers. Many bullnuts have been cut With them.

    Hi Paddy, great video 👌
I like the 🇺🇸 'Lawman' - which I know I would enjoy using, just by looking at it! 😁
I'm really looking forward to getting another QSP, love the Penguin, so looking to get the Hegdehog 🦔 great to hear your take on it.
I cannot wait to get a GM Farley, also... and that JWK 🐺 sheepsfoot looks lovely and so practical - it actually, almost looks like a 'Ramsfoot' be it only slightly, but I guess it's the camera angle playing tricks on me 😉
'Textured Micarta', is my choice mostly with a 'working' knife, as we are in a temperate environment in the 🇬🇧 so has a great grip in the hand and non slipping, especially when it's damp & wet 🌧
Yet warm & tactile to touch, which for me, enhances detailed work...
    Thanks for sharing as always,
    Atb Gus👍

I’m the same with micarta. I worry less about damaging them. That being said, pick bone in amber or chestnut is my all time favorite looking handle material. Great video.

    Great Video Pappa Bear!
love your choices - that Hedgehog is truly stunning, looks like a beast of a work knife.
I guess my picks as the years best 3 slipjoint work knives need more "deep thought" LoL
I can guarantee one would be any Sheffield Barlow, in fact, you would be very familiar with my #1 choice - An A.Wright & Sons Stag handled Barlow That you & Slick conspired to gift me.
A great worker that is extremely pleasing to the eyes, plus, the sentimental factor pings a 10 on the the Richter scale! LoL
    Thanks for everything Steven!
You're an inspiration to all of us "UA-camrs" -
positivity with gentleness and a big bite when needed (bear bite reference there..lol)
    Happy New Year -
All the best to you & yours in the coming year✌️
PS. what exactly is a snail trail on a knife? Here in the States, a snail trail reference is quite ghastly😛🤮

Those knives are all nice but too expensive for EDC for me. I'd like to see you compare the Ace Farley with the Ganzo fh51.

The Hedgehog is an incredible knife I just picked one up myself for $50 and can’t believe how well made it is. The thinness of the hollow grind is scary sharp and the action feels so good. Makes me want to pickup another one before they are gone. Awesome top 3 Paddy thanks!

Happy New Year, Paddy. Looks like beefed up quarter-hollow razor grinds are on trend, then ... deep joy. However, I suppose it depends what sort of work is in the offing. My choice for an all round UK legal work knife is still the old pattern British army knife, or the navy equivalent with the marlinspike in your case. They're like donkeys - you never see a dead 'un. 🙂

I agree with you about Micarta. In the last two years nearly every knife I've bought has either had a Micarta or a Wooden handle. I have no interest in Bone, Stag , Metal or Carbon Fibre.
    Yes, I am very odd.😂

Favorite workers? Probably Michael May double bolster barlow in stag, GEC 86 pattern, preferably the Angus Jack and my fav, but not UK legal, the Bee Master by Otter.

Hi Paddy, I've been looking at the Hedgehog, since it was announced and have been waiting patiently...until now.
Your comments have seduced me into ordering off a French website and it's in the post now. The excitement is mounting.
Thanks for another great video and take care.

Hi paddy, just a heads up as I saw on the black belt barristers channel, the law is vague on the 3 inch measurement but he goes on to supply some examples where it is now the whole blade not just the cutting edge. Pc plod will now measure from the scales to the tip no matter how big the choir or ricasso etc

Cracking trio! The hedgehog will be one of my few purchases in 2023 (so I keep telling myself anyway 😂) going to try get my mk1 golf back on the road this year so that’s where my funds will be going, which bring me to my question for theQ&A if you’re doing one this weekend, do you have any other hobbies outside of edc/knives? As always thanks for all the content and have a prosperous new year

Personally I would say the better working knife for the middle tier for most people would be either the Micarta or Silver Twill Carbon Fiber Viper Dan 2. That blade is an epic uk legal folder that is still hard to beat. Part of my reasoning behind this the Viper Dan and Dan 2 are at a cheaper price point in wood or micarta and a comparable pricepoint in carbon fiber. Most people who use their knives for work is opening packaging either in the office or food prep so knives that bring to mind the gentlemans folder and do not look threatening in the office. If we add to this that the viper has a firm lock up but can be opened one handed and like these is uk legal it overall is perhaps the best bang for buck work pocket knife in existance.

    Great knives there Paddy.
I violated so many knife, & weapons laws when I was over in the UK in the early 1980's. 🤠 Fortunately I was never searched. I carried a Double edge push dagger, Buck 110, and sometimes nunchucks 😆. I was young and stupid. Now, I wouldn't do that, even if I thought I could get away with it. I like not paying big fines, & doing time behind bars. 🚨

Hi Paddy, have followed your great reviews for some time. Would appreciate your thoughts on QSP Falcon. This would be the last knife I will get and eventually passed down to son. Have seen the Hedgehog but blade shape not my liking. Quality was something else!!! Many thanks, Ron

How would you rate the Manly Wasp as a woking slipjoint against these three?

  • @gizmocarr3093
    @gizmocarr3093 2 роки тому +1

I think if you can afford using an eighty-dollar pocketknife, I would use any one in that price range unless it was a rare or a unique collectable knife. If someone can afford a more or less expensive knife, why not use it no matter of the price. I wouldn’t pick one that only a few were ever made for their collection importance. The Micarta on your QSP, I would call Jig Micarta, looks nice for Micarta scales.
I would carry a bone or wood handle knife before micarta because bone and hardwood is as durable as Micarta. Besides bone and wood covers, look better to me. I often buy two knives one to keep and one to use. If the price lets me do it, I will buy two.
If you don’t use a knife enough to scratch it a little how do know if you like it? What does it matter if the steel is M390 or 440C if you never use it enough to see the difference? Any steel that holds an edge a long time has to be harder to sharpen than one that does not, I have to think. ☘🥔🔪

Paddy, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the Qsp Hedgehog...thing is, I live in Canada and this knife can't be found for love nor money. And since Canadian Border Services has clamped down on knives coming in from the US(our nearest neighbors) I'm likely going to have to order it from the UK...how daft is that!
