It's the same with me! I was 16 in 1981, graduated in '83. I watched this with my parents, too. I'm sorry for your loss. My dad's been gone 9 years and my mom 4. I still want them here, so I know what you're going through. I've got seasons 1-5 so far and still binge watch at least every other month.
My dad was just like Archie Bunker. He even looked like him in his later years. He didn't treat me well as his daughter. He died when I was in my thirties. I do miss him. We would watch All in the Family too. My dad loved the show.
@@Sacred_Fire Politics never was really discussed in our home growing up, so I was able to make my own mind up on what side I agreed with. Sometimes men of that era were, and still area, a product of their environment. My dad's parents were Archie-like and didn't treat their kids very well, but he managed to not be like him. I send hugs to you; hearing that just broke my heart ❤
Mike really wasn't a great guy. He was narcissistic. The entire Bunker family helped him get through school. Archie paid even his medical. Gloria worked to support him. Edith cooked and cleaned for him. Gloria gave him a son. What did he do? Went to Cali with Gloria and when her back was turned he left her for one of his students. Yeah great guy that one.
I never could stand the "Meathead," Michael Stivic. Gloria was too pretty & too good for him! ❤❤❤ I never liked Rob Reiner either. I can't believe Penny Marshall married him. I loved her!!! They seem like such an odd couple. ????
I totally agree! The show was enjoyable because Archie was who he was & meathead was truly a meathead! 😂😂 Turns out Mike carried on the role into real life!😂
I don't care what anybody says. This is the greatest tv sitcom ever. Only sitcom to be number 1 for their first 5 seasons. Plus it had 2 spinoffs that were number 1. Plus a spin off from a spin off. Good Times spun off from Maude. The GOAT!
Not uncommon among the hippie era Boomers, of which Mike was one. But, it turns out they actually weren't any smarter or better than anyone else. Just expert narcissists full of their own imaginary self importance.
@@supercaptainbatdoggy actually it was spoken by someone who doesnt know that reiner was part of the writing team and went out of his way to many times paint mike as a jerk
That really IS too bad, that Edith sees a beautiful person, and Archie sees a blimp.(episode with Buck Evans). Edith and Archie are SO different. Too bad everyone is not like Edith.😂❤
At Edith's reunion, one was Harvey Lembeck of the Avalon-Funicello beach movies. His son was Julie Cooper's husband and later Michael Lembeck directed some Friends episodes. One woman was Lou's wife Edie on the MTM Show. Lots of characters showed up in bit parts on AITF who I only recognized years later in syndication.
@msr1116 Harvey Lembeck was also in the 1952 movie “Stalag 17” with William Holden, Peter Graves (TV Series, Mission Impossible) & Neville Brand ( Movie Tora! Tora! Tora! & TV Series Streets of Laredo)!!!❤😮😊
It kept coming up over and over. Mike's superiority complex that because he was educated he was better than she was because she was "only" a high school graduate. In this episode his talking down to her was really ticking me off. He's lucky he got off with only a "shove it" in charades. I'd have followed it up with a good swift kick of his behind.
@@alondralabute2310 Yep - LOL - remember the Christmas visit to California? Remember Gloria explaining why they grew "apart." and it ended up in separation/divorce? All in all - the show was brilliant and perfectly crafted.
@@georgemurphy2579 In the latter part of this episode with Stuart, Mike says Gloria will go back to school when he'd finished but by that time she'd become pregnant with Joey and never went back. But Gloria should or could have been in college when she met Mike and she wasn't. She wasn't even working, not until the second season when she got the job at Kressler's. It seems strange that she wasn't working out of high school. It wasn't because of the timing since most young women worked out of high school unless they went to college and you'd think Archie would want her to have a job since she wasn't married.
Simple solution to Gloria's problem. If she and Mike both work full time, he helps with the housework and cooking. She doesn't do it all. Why should she have 2 jobs while he has only one?

In real life, Caroll O' Connor was well educated, well traveled, a devout Catholic, a liberal, and a Democrat. He was nothing like the uneducated, untraveled, and bigoted Archie Bunker.
Yes, I know he was a great actor. My primary point was Carroll O' Connor never endorsed the Archie Bunker character. The Archie Bunker character that many people seem to like does not reflect who he really was.
Not Mike wanting to have a "smart" conversation but forgetting the quote and saying "breast" instead of "beast"... Was it always about girls with that man?? :P
Whenever I watch these clips, I think about my parents. We used to watch it as a family. My dad died when I was 16, in 1981. I miss him every day.
