My wife and I spent the 2nd night of our honeymoon at the Chateau, 56 and a half years ago!!! It was fabulous then and still looks fabulous now. From what I can remember - inside of Chateau appears to have not changed much at all. Thanks so much for posting this video. Enjoy the treck.
The Chateau Tongariro is stunning. The surrounding scenery brings so much life to the chateau. You guys continue to amaze me with such great places to visit. I hope we can get past covid to be able travel. My wife and I hope to make there very soon. Thank you so much for sharing the views.
That was so good. I have a really good photo of the lounge in the Chateau. My Dad took it in 1931 when my parents were on their honeymoon. Imagine .... 90 years ago. It looked so glamorous then too. Great overstuffed arm chairs and sofas. I’ve never been as I like to think of it as it was then. You both certainly know how to have fun. The pie didn’t look too great on the inside.
1931!! That's insane 😍What an amazing memory! Haha the pie was actually really good but they're never pretty on the inside (or when its all over our faces 😂)
Wauw beautiful place love high tea’s 😍. 😂 love the park with all the veggie characters Brilliant . Looking forward to to your next video with the hike. Mountain View is breath taking 😍
Loved this video...was always keen on seeing how the Chateau experience would be like. It does give a bit of a 'The Shining' hotel vibes though depending on what time of the day you drive past it lol. Not sure if you guys are still around Tongariro; that pie place (Blind Finch) serves some mean burgers too. And there's a bakery in Ohakune which makes giant eclairs. Cheers
😂 Very true! The eclair shop wasnt open when we were there, so sad! Looks like we'll have to go back for burgers & eclairs sometime 😊Thanks for the tips!
Love the Chateau! Stayed there several years ago and explored the park a bit. Did not indulge in high tea, but I admit now that was a mistake! I love how much you feature food in your travels - I'm taking notes!!
Oh what a teaser! I wanna see more. Hoping to be on the South Island in December if the travel bubble with Australian allows. Can't wait to be going to NZ at last. We wanted to go last year but we all know what happen then. Thanks for your faboulous videos, hubby and I are working our way through some older content at present. Albania was so nice and makes you wanna go there.
We have our fingers crossed that the bubble is back open by then (especially so families can be together at Christmas!) Aw we love hearing that people are going back and watching our adventures - so many good memories!
@@DaneAndStacey To be able to stay at this site, you would need to be in a self contained campervan/motorhome/caravan as, as there is no power etc. There is, however, a dump station and fresh water tap. There is a nominal charge (gold coin) and it is very peaceful.
Argh so cool! We just finished up 2 weeks in the north island (before the bubble to Aus closed). We literally watched all of your episodes to find out the best places to see & go! We actually drove past the chateau and thought it’d be an amazing base to explore. Thanks so much for your detailed videos. They made planning our trip so easy even though we are seasoned travelers ♥️
This is awesome to hear 😊 So glad our videos were helpful and you had a good trip! Thank goodness you managed to make it happen before the bubble closed!
@@DaneAndStacey I’m re booking for March. Hoping it will be possible from the UK by then having seen recent announcement about the speed up of your vaccine roll out fingers crossed …..
Jack and I finally went on our trip to London, we did so much and ate so much! Honestly our next holiday will probably be something that’s called the NLAND250! It’s definitely on our list, but you guys only continue to inspire me to travel and see the world! Definitely need to attend an afternoon tea as I never have! Also hiking boots have been picked and I’m so ready to hike this autumn! 🍂
High tea is one of my absolute favourite things and this one looked great! Next time you are in London try the Dorchester Hotel high tea. It is amazing and the art deco setting is perfect. They usually have a good pianist playing cool jazz like Bill Evans which really adds to the vibe. I took my Mom there for her 80th back in 2013 and my daughter for her 16th in January 2020 and it hit the spot both times!
Ah, the start of this video was such a tease, I was hoping to see the hike! 🥾🥾 The food at the Chateau looked amazing, I totally would have gone for the Apple and Walnut filo for desert (yes, I am one of the foodie weirdos who will 100% pause a video when a menu is being shown.... 🤣 ) I have to ask, when you guys did the scones with jam and cream, what went on first - jam the Cornish way or cream the Devon way? 🤔 (I'm a Londoner and was born and bred in the north east so you wont offend me either way 😉) Can not wait for the next video! ❤️
It will be uploaded next week (it's SO good, I just watched it! Danes done such a good job of the edit!) Haha love it, I do that too - there's nothing wrong with being prepared 😂 We're going to offend so many people but just between us... Cream first always, it looks way prettier that way!
@@DaneAndStacey YES!!! I wouldn't have been offended if you'd said jam first, but cream first just makes sense. It's easier to spread in my opinion and you're so right about it looking prettier!
Wow I love high teas, I favorite was in Victoria BC, fun.🍰🍔🥐🥟☕ Glad you guys had all that good food and drink. Can't wait to see the hike, I have never being to NZ but after watching your videos it is one of my favorite countries. Thanks guys Cheers 🥂🧔
That looks AMAZING! My fiancé and I are hopefully 🤞🏼 making our way over there after our wedding next year for our Honeymoon and you guys are already hooking us on many more trips after that 🥰😍🥰😍
They must have refurbished the bedrooms, since I was there in 2018 (I think) ... but I also think I'd love to go back to the Chateau, the hiking wouldn't be on my agenda but plenty of atmosphere to soak up!
It’s an absolute shame they closed it down recently. 😢On my first ever trip to New Zealand in 2005, I crawled out of my tent on the campground up the road and dressed up in my best clothes and had dinner at that place. Greetings from Germany.
was watching your Europe vlogs where you were having all that discussion about jam or cream first on a scone....I prefer cream first....what is cotted cream or whatever it was in this vlog you mentioned ?...I use fresh cream then jam in NZ
We prefer cream first (don't tell anyone!) Clotted cream is way more creamy than the whipped cream we have in NZ. Its almost like a thick and creamy butter rather than a light a fluffy whip.
I stayed here with my 9 year old son in Winter 2018 and we didn't do the High Tea because I could not justify the price. Looking at your experience I think I have learnt that you can't put a price on once in a lifetime experiences like looking out at Mount Doom while having High Tea. We did splurge on the Hobbit's evening feast at Hobbiton though ;)
It's definitely not something we'd usually do either but we saw other's doing it and couldn't resist. At least its a good excuse to go back someday 😊 The Hobbits evening sounds great too!
Hi guys, The video contents are phenomenal but I have a suggestion. Video doesn't have vibrancy it's almost like watching monochrome black and white. Please do add little bit of contrast and saturation. You guys are fun, bubbly, etc the muted color doesn't match your energy. So it's just my humble opinion.
@@DaneAndStacey If you prefer that look than it's ok. Even I checked it on Oled TV. I have seen 90 percent of your videos, I can tell it's just half a stop brighter and it's less in saturation. I had studied cinematography now I left, it just might be the reason I am nitpicking. You can check out Attache or Expedia etc for just colouring. Keep up your good work..
It’s colour grading and a specific LUT that we use to achieve the look on purpose. We don’t like saturation and that over the top coloured look so we pull it back on purpose, this unified colour is how we market all our videos and photos across IG also because it’s what we like. If you studied you should know there is no perfect right or wrong - each to their own art 👍🏼
