If the Leafs could land Zadorov and Parayko that would be amazing. Yes I'm dreaming i know lol but at least if they could get Parayko to play with Reilly as he once played well with Reilly at one time during World cup. He's a defense first dman. His cap hit won't be that bad when the cap goes up. Zadorov, while I'd love to have him cause he was lights out during the Playoffs. For money he'll be asking he's either a fringe top 4 or a very good bottom pairing dman. His potential cap hit could be every bit as unforgiving as Parayko's. Parayko and his contract as of right now I'd compare to a Brodie contract , he'll give you good defense for a lot of years before tailing off. The right side would be locked up for years. But all of that is for not if there is no Marner trade. Either way if we get either one I'll be happy.
All teams are looking for great D. They are the most valuable asset in hockey. Toronto has very little cap unless they dump someone from the core and are not going to be in a good position to bargain. Also, Tavares recent problems with CRA is going to deter most players from coming to Canada.
Zadorov,Silovs would be nice for the Leafs send Marner to Vancouver
Leafs are trading for a goalie in a package for Marner, Woll is penciled as 1A an they will get a UFA goalie for max. 2yr contract.
Canucks would be crazy to NOT sign Zadorov! Trade marner and Lilgrin to Van. for Miller and Zadorov.

Personally, I would love it if Edmundson was to sign with the Leafs.
as a 7th/8th but Benoit is bottom pair 100%. Swap in and out throughout the season to keep them both fresh.

Most of his salary still goes against the salary cap.
He is a solid player. Under new coaching he could lead the team in points.
He has 1 yr remaining at 11m.
So a buyout would be 2 yrs at 5.5m against the cap

Parako no, Zadorov yes, Tanev no, Pesce yes, Montour no. Treliving should be looking at trades as UFA's are always overpriced. Move Kampf, Jarnkrok, Reaves, Timmins and Liljegren for starters. If you can get Marner to waive his NMC then move him as well. Leafs need at least 2 top 4D and a true #1G
The cap space created by the Brodie, Gio, Edmunson, Samsonov and Booosh is wonderful but seeing how our division rivals are officially Cup champions it’s really time to make use of more than just the cap space created by departing F.A’s..
In my own personal opinion just doing what we have done before most likely won’t impact the roster enough to get by teams like Boston/Fla etc… so Leafs need to change a little more of the roster than just that, one would think.
One big move was hiring a new coach. One that will get a lot more out of the guys still here. I have a feeling (or at least hope) he motivates Matthews to skate through a brick wall to win when it counts…the playoffs. 🙏
There's one year left on his contract no point in buying him out and stretching the cap over a few years

Pesce is just another Brodie with a little more offence. He is the exact opposite of what the leafs need.
Parayko's game has really fallen off badly. Even if he waived his NMC to come to Toronto, Blues agreed to retain 2.5M, and also take Kampf's 2.4 M deal, Leafs should be still nervous, given the length of his contract.. I say take a pass. Zadorov is a better option, but only if he is not asking for crazy money. However, he probably is looking for crazy money (6M), and Leafs can't afford that. Overview: Leafs are handcuffed to a tight salary cap unless Marner agrees to leave town asap (before sundown)

Zadorov is going to be MASSIVELY OVERPAID. For Zadorov youre looking at 6 years at 6.1M which is waaaaaayyyy too much. This is going to be the problem for the Leafs trying to get these defencmen... Theres many teams out there that can give them the kind of money they want that are or will be intrigung..
Utah is going to come out swinging this offseason , Theyre going to sign likely Montour and Zadorov.
Detroits losing Ghost. They will be looking to sign a big name defenceman
Vancouver is losing Zadorov and Myers, Theyre going to be looking to sign one of the top guys.
Florida is losing a ton of defenders theyre going to be looking to get one of the top defencmen
Kings losing Matt Roy will want a replacement...
My point is the price for these guys isgoing to be astronomical because of the bidding war.
These people thinking Tanev is going to sign a 4 year 4.5M deal are delusional.
These people who think Pesce is going to sign a 6 year deal at 5.5 are delusional.
These people thinking Zadorov is getting anything less then 6M are delusional.
Which makes Parayko an intriguing option. Simply because theres potential for retained salary. Even if Toronto could get St Louis to retain 1M to me 5.5 is a steal. That would put them in line to be able to afford a Tanev as well at 5.5-5.75M.
These defencemen are GOING TO BE PAID.
The team who wants to pony up is the team thats going to get them. So its best to try to go after the younger guys like Roy and or Pesce so maybe they have some upside left and can actually live up to the contracts longer.
Tanev will sign a 4 yearx5.5-5.75M deal.
Zadorov Will Sign a 5-6 yearx6.1M deal.
Pesce Will sign a 6-7 year x 6.5-6.75M deal.
Roy will sign a 6-7 year x 7M deal.
Montour will sign a 5-6 year x 7.5-7.75M deal
