Regarding oval chainrings, I saw some testing done by a university studying oval vs round on road bikes. The conclusion was that for flats and downhills, the ovals were marginally worse whereas they provided an advantage climbing. I could attest to this when I changed the round chainring on my MTB to an oval. There is a very steep and long hill by my house I struggled with. When I changed to an oval, the climb became easier and faster. That is why I keep ovals on my MTBs.
My first experience of oval chainrings was using Sugino Cycloid rings in 1988 on my Muddy Fox Roadrunner! They were the only real competitor to the Shimano Biopace oval rings at the time from memory, and I always thought the Sugino's had more bite compared to the Shimano's,which seemed a little more boxy then oval. Wow,what memories!
That better gearing makes a huge difference! Nice group set for sure. Bike looks good, and seems to be a solid performer. Looking forward to more! Thanks guys.
It’s good that that nine speed free wheel exists when you’re working on a budget bike and you don’t want to buy wheels. The sunrace derailer is not a bad derailer. They work pretty decent. You can use a Shimano nine speed shifter with that though it’s the same shift pull ratio.
With regards to the shifter, it’s unlikely that there is too much slack in the cable so there might be excessive play in the shifter internals. Maybe open it up and give it a clean with WD 40 or GT 85 before lubricating and reassembling.
Nice one just out of the oven hahaha cheers my bro, I've been realy enjoying your videosa lot im about to buy a new fork so yeah you can imagine all the research I'm doing but I got a lot of amazing info and real world test from you really appreciate it man
Great review i knew you would like the derallieur i use a shimano altus 9 speed shifter with mine definatly want to see how you get on with short cranks tho ❤
I just got done riding my polygon xtrada 7 hardtail It came Friday by FedEx it's an amazing bike once I adjusted the brake levers and swept the handlebars back a little bit my other bike was a little too big it was a 2024 specialized rockhopper sport large frame 29-in wheels but I'm 5'9 and it's too big I'm selling that since I got my new polygon which is a medium size frame with 27.5 inch wheels bike is very nimble more aggressive and comes with a decent air fork 120mm of travel can't wait to get it on some trails❤❤❤🎉🎉
I think ovals have helped me when I had knee issues. I find that when my knees were finicky, it helped a lot in techy situations where my bad knee would buckle under excessive load while standing up. I think my knee and form have improved to where I run round rings again though.
The Falcon freewheels are great paired with Microshift Acolyte. There is a quick shift acolyte shifter variation. You definitely need some 165-160mm crank arms.
Nice Job Guys... give me a shout next time you head up to Nebo !!! I'd like to check it out ! I'm in Beebe with a Superior XP919............ I love the 919 & my Mods :)
I tried getting all different angles once in a trail. Nope I worried more on the cameras than focusing on the ride. And then I realized the views maybe lost on the trail. Because I used all the camera angles. I’m not saying you’re bad at it I’m just stating my video I did. Dig all the videos. Gives me ideas on product and at times shows me things I could use
It would be very useful to have a running total of how much $$$ goes into all these mods when you do these reviews… there has to be a point where there is an off the shelf alternative with pretty much the same stuff and it would be good to know the price difference. I love fiddling with my bikes, but it’s easy to lose sight of the overall outlay when upgrading so many different things. The mech and freewheel were impressive, it would be interesting to see if you stuck a cheap Shimano shifter on it if it would be compatible and any better.
You have turned a Walmart/ Dick's bike into a trail machine. The Falcon, Sunrace, IXF, Clark's combo is working fine. It still needs a dropper post though.

The Sunrace derailleur survived the Lizard Trail but not Tick's mechanical skills! Great episode and really happy this worked out so well.
😅😂🤣

Falcon is a game changer for freewheels!
I really don't know why other brands don't do the same.
Im sold on the Falcon. Great episode fellas👍

Explain the coleyflower ear👂
Sunrace 9 speed group vs advent x 9 speed group?
Head to head, what drivetrain do you prefer?
6 tooth jump between the top 2 cogs. It's going to be a bit clunky and need a heavier tension to make it work. For the price its good enough.
If I can compare an IXF crank set to something , it would be a Casio G-Shock.

How about budget fat bikes?
