On Sept 26, 1979, I was a high school senior at Kirkwood High in St. Louis, MO, and the Knack just randomly showed up at our school to perform a concert. There was no advertising and no one knew ahead of time except maybe the school administration. The band probably didn't advertise so there wouldn't be massive crowds at our school that afternoon. But 900 of us students enjoyed a free concert of the hottest band at that time. What a great memory your performance brought back to me from that event over 40 years ago.
I think Filipinos are born in music conservatories and not in maternity hospitals. Because they already bring this giant musicality in DNA. Congratulations guys you are great. Greetings from Áustria 🇦🇹.
Was in the service back in the 70's and spent time in Olongapo subic bay. My 1st shore leave, walking down Magasaisai during the day past all the clubs and I heard jukeboxes blaring out of each of them all the solid hits of the day. The first place I went into I found out that all the music was from live bands practicing. Those bands were ALL incredible - sounded exactly like the recordings.
I grew up with Doug Fieger, the lead singer in the group "The Knack". Doug was the lead singer in the original version of "My Sharona". I remember in gym class in 1968 we were wrestling partners, so we got pretty close, pun intended. Unfortunately Doug died of cancer in 2010. Doug was a really nice, smart, creative guy. He was full of life and already a very talented person at that time. Hearing this song makes me both happy and sad. It's a tribute to Doug's creativity, but it's sad Doug had to leave us so soon. In Oak Park High School we had a big class of intense individuals that went on to do amazing things. Certainly Doug was one of those people.
Erm ...well ..lol ..what can I say? ..I used to play this song in a band and it's an awesome number to get people up off their seats and on to the dance floor ... it's definitely a song where the drummer shines and Reno was absolutely 'ballistic' in this one! ... he hardly raised his head and went at it 'like a bull at a gate' as we say in the UK ... every beat was spot on and he drove the song along like Lewis Hamilton ... RJs lead playing was immense and rocked the hell of this one ... Ralph and Mart took a back seat here but did what they needed to do and that was to be a tight rhythm section which is what the song needed ... with this song we are starting to see a little different side of what our boys are capable of ... so let's have some more rockers! ... that was 100% perfect and it's not an easy song to play ... I'm so proud of you once again you NEVER cease to amaze me! ...oh and great to see Ralph playing a Hofner!
REO Brothers: A Welcome Addiction My children has been teasing me lately about my REO addiction on UA-cam. Of course I have to admit that they have reason enough to rib me on this one because I constantly berate them about wasting time watching everything that comes out of UA-cam, from those cat videos to people pig-eating in all exotic locales. I myself is wondering why all of sudden I’m drawn so heavily to the music of these young gentlemen from the Visayan region of the Philippines. I came of age in 80’s and certainly enjoys New Wave music, one of the best things, in my humble opinion, to come off that era. But I’m more of a jazz listener, much to the consternation of my wife every time I blast my jazz collections in our living room stereo. She always teases me of trying too hard to be cool or appear intellectual. The engineer in me is trying to rationalize this new addiction. Being in my 50’s I could easily attribute this to being a midlife crisis. If midlife crisis looks like this, then I welcome it with open arms. Or maybe I’m just rooting for fellow Filipinos to do well. Being away from home for more than half of my life, I’m always excited to see a countryman making waves everywhere. Coming from a small town on the southern tip of Masbate, Philippines, I can tell you that life there is not easy. Knowing that these young men came from Leyte and having idea of their early circumstances in life, you cannot fault me at all for rooting for them to achieve the success that they truly deserve. Or it could be that the music they are playing reminds me of my father who was an avid rock-and-roll fan who considered his 8-track cassette tape player one of his most cherished possessions. Or it could be that REO Brothers’ brand of music is a throwback to that era where good sound is achieved by mastering the instruments instead of over-polishing them with every byte of digital tweaking. That era where vocal harmonies is essential to every recording. But as an avid photography enthusiast I know that art cannot be rationalized. It is a unique connection between the artist and the viewer. So I will keep listening to Miles Davis, John Coltrane or Frank Sinatra. I will keep marveling at the black-and-white photographs of Ansel Adams. I will always revisit Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man And The Sea or have my working class roots rekindled by John Steinbeck. But I will also now listen to REO Brothers. This is an addiction that I truly welcome.

With "My Sharona" you've shown yet again that you can scale with so much ease the various sounds across the rock 'n roll genre: from Beatles to Eagles, and now to this punk rock group. When consuming your product, though, one must not forget these undeniable facts about you: 1) that you are all self-taught, 2) that you have honed your talents since when Raymart and Ralph were barely out of puberty, 3) that you can produce quality legacy sound despite not having the sophisticated technology and professional technicians to support you, 4) that you yourself arrange, direct, mix, and produce all these wonderful covers, 5) that you have gone beyond your provincial roots to produce a sophisticated musical brand that equals all the great bands you have covered so far, 6) that you are survivors of one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit this century, and 7) that you are a family and it shows in how you respect and support each other. Another great cover. Got to see The Knack in 79. The drummer Bruce was a regular at the Beatlefest in LA in 200o. Got to talk too him an get his photo. Unfortunately Doug an Bruce, who wrote the song has passed away. Keep on rocking!
This song brings back so many memories. When this song came out it was so s e x y. I was entering puberty and noticing girls for their p o t e n t i a l... Sitting in my treehouse, a few boards connecting some branches, looking at a Hustler Magazine I had traded a record for (vinyl record). Wow, what a flashback. You folks nailed the song!

I have a habit of picking a song and watching all of the cover videos. Today I picked My Sharona and this is the last one in the que. I can honestly say it is the closest to the original by The Knack. I enjoyed hearing it. The ORIGINAL came out my Senior year in High School. Love the song. GREAT JOB GUYS!!
I think this is the 50th time that I'm listening to My Sharona, cover by the REO Brothers! I am so amazed by their overall performance and the stamina of the brothers, especially Reno!

You guys absolutely nailed it! My measure of a cover of "My Sharona" is how well the guitar solo is done (when it's done at all), and this is one of the best performances of it. The solo in "My Sharona" is, to me, one of the best guitar solos of all time. I hope Berton Averre and Prescott Niles (the surviving members of The Knack) see this.👍😎
Jimmy Page considers Larry Carlton's solo on Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne was the best in rock music and I agree. But My Sharona's solo licks is certainly right up there too!
I'm with you, Averre's solo on 'My Sharona' is one of my top five guitar best guitar solos ever. He's only bestest (maybe), buy David Gilmour's 'Another Brick in the Wall'. This was phenomenal.
Display of amazing PRECISION and ENERGY! Request: Cover of Turning Japanese by The Vapors with Ralph as lead vocal. Hope you concert tour Africa. Thanks.
You guys really have the Knack for doing great 70s covers but this one went over the roof. Really impressed and looking forward to greater things. Your admirers from Dublin Ireland
Phenomenal! Never know what comes next from you guys. From Alan Parsons to Simon and Garfunkel to The Knack, it could be anything. And the quality never varies. Great work from everyone on this classic. Would be unfair to single anyone out.
I’ve been a huge Knack fan since before I seen them play live the first time in 1979 in Dallas Tx…unless you’ve ever heard the original cut of My Sharona on they’re first album you’ve probably never heard the extended version with the lead guitar break that’s twice as long as this version and it’s awesome. But you guys did a damn good job so thanks 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I watched Philippino bands while in the Navy in the 70s. They could play the newest hits from the Era flawlessly. Remarkable band. Rock on!
In the ‘60’s too.
Wicked cover! That drummer was beating on that kit like it owed him money!! Outstanding!!!

I think this is the 50th time that I'm listening to My Sharona, cover by the REO Brothers! I am so amazed by their overall performance and the stamina of the brothers, especially Reno!

You meant Reno not Raymark, right?
Raymart i guess 😅
Brilliant, you guys certainly have a knack for sounding exactly like The Knack!👍👍👍
So glad you guys played the long version, nice work!
Wow, nailed that guitar solo.
The only thing I would add is a club-full of people clapping and cheering: 'cause you guys are great and you deserve it!!!

This is a most high compliment from the high northern plains of the USA: you guys are so stinking talented it should be a crime. I’ve been enjoying every bit of your videos. Keep on keeping on!

Yngwie Malmsteen left the chat.
Display of amazing PRECISION and ENERGY! Request: Cover of Turning Japanese by The Vapors with Ralph as lead vocal. Hope you concert tour Africa. Thanks.
Incredible talent just flows from every pore and vibrates within every molecule of you guys!
This comment made me think of the song Only In Dreams by my favorite band, Weezer. 😊
You guys really have the Knack for doing great 70s covers but this one went over the roof. Really impressed and looking forward to greater things. Your admirers from Dublin Ireland
You guys are so talented and gorgeous and play your music so adorable. Keep on rocking and rolling. Love always
Phenomenal! Never know what comes next from you guys. From Alan Parsons to Simon and Garfunkel to The Knack, it could be anything. And the quality never varies. Great work from everyone on this classic. Would be unfair to single anyone out.
I’m sure you did not missed their take on “Sultans of Swing”!
Wow that was a blast, the drummer is in beast mode, guitar solo and the rest are just rockin’ it.
I was in grade one when this rock music came out. Thanks Reo Brothers. Stay strong. Do not skip commercials guys.
I was in kinder and it remains one of my all time favorites
