Thanks for talking about the tool details and choosing something "general purpose". It's great to see cutting at modest as well as aggressive settings WITH SOUND too!

Holy macaronies thats some impressive cutting right there.
One day i will own a HAAS!

You guys really need some metric tooling. Haas tooling is super useful. But we're missing a lot in metric. If you fill that its almost unbeatable for the value.

Who cares about metric tooling? All of our parts are programed in metric but I use SAE tooling. They are all a number that your CAM will handle. Makes no difference.

Hello. Could you please have Mark do a video on lathe live tooling offsets. I believe it is information that is taken for granted or not understood by first time Y axis lathe owners. Example being: Cutting a 5/16" key way using a 1/4" endmill. After the cut is complete the keyway is .003 small. What offset do you adjust to open that keyway up to accept the key. Thank you very much for all the awesome content.

We have tried the HU30 in mild steel but we found using the HEIX cutter that the MKP30 lasted 2-3 times longer. We were using Sandvik before but the MKP30 easily beats the R.390 17 inserts.

this is really a great content amazingly well done providing the speeds and feeds and the real cutting voice and the metric conversion is awesome but would you please add the width of cut and the spindle and axis load with the type of spindle that you are machining on ? that would be a perfect tool cutting video and it will grow a really solid video base of tested and approved cuts on different materials a lot of shops will need to buy a new tool for a job really fast and being able to have such clear insight on how the tool will perform is a great selling point l won't look at Kennametal or Sandvik after watching this video I'll buy this tool simply because it works and l know exactly how to make it work reliability and predictability is the most valuable thing in this industry there is a huge potential and honest marketing material and opportunity here.

How much spindle HP does it take to run? Would be a good thing to know for those of us with smaller machines.

There are horsepower calculators out there. It’s going to depend on your feeds speed, depth of cut and material.

Nice demo, thanks! Just wondering, is there a reason for not cutting the slot in both directions?

If you can run coolant on stainless w/o worrying about thermal shock on the inserts, why wouldn't you use coolant here as well?

    • @ByteChiefDeluxe

So we can see what is going on... Imagine watching this mill and seeing squat.
You always run coolant if you can.

On stainless you still get thermal shock, but thats a smaller problem than the work hardening, so its kind of choosing between 2 evils

Great site and the cutter shop is just peachy. Picked out the stuff I wanted and was speadily taken to the checkout where I am told that I cannot buy ....... Funny I thought that the internet was a world market but doesn`t include the U.K. Ah well. Never mind.

Who cares if a mill cutter is indexable? What application needs cutter indexing?

when we say indexable cutter in milling we mean that when the insert is worn out you can index it meaning that you can rotate the insert to have a fresh cutting edge on the same insert in this case the insert has 3 cutting edges meaning that you can rotate the insert 3 times until you throw it check this video you'll get it
