      Once again, I would like to suggest you reach out to Gaijin Goombah for future projects that delve into Japanese culture, history, and mythology. He's a bit of an authority here on UA-cam regarding all of that, and he can also help you get some things straight that you're a bit lost on. Maybe you could even try doing a collab with him at some point.

    Considering that Outworld is not only Earthrealm’s biggest opp, but that the emperor of Outworld is named Shao Kahn, I’m gonna guess that the Mongol history is why Fujin and Raiden are Earthrealm’s protectors.

      @@skyden24195 I always found it cool that he was named Kahn, and I felt there could be some legit reason to do so considering all of the other mythological inspirations. Granted, the Khans were very real, but due to their connection to Raiden, it’s part of the Japanese mythos. I’m glad I finally got to confirm my suspicions thanks to this video.

    • @skyden24195
      @skyden24195 13 днів тому +6

      @@enochabraham688 there is also a very dangerous ruler in the Star Trek mythos named Kahn. Just thought I'd point it out, mostly because of the relevance of the name being associated with powerful rulers, rulers who are quite often depicted as, at least to some extent if not completely, malevolent in nature.

    • @enochabraham688
      @enochabraham688 13 днів тому +6

      @@skyden24195 I think it was all inspired by the legend of the Mongol Khans. I remember him, and at least in his first iteration, he was really tan and had sleek black hair. The Khans may not have been holistically evil per se, but their sheer level of brutality may be unmatched. I mean, who else had the idea to use the dead bodies of their enemies as flaming projectile weapons??

    • @skyden24195
      @skyden24195 13 днів тому +3

      @@enochabraham688 I'd have to agree about the "evil" associated aspect of the name being derived more from the opinions/perceptions of those who were conquered by the Mongols/Mongol Kahns. They were brutal, but at the same time they could be very diplomatic when it better served their purposes. After all, one doesn't control an empire as big as theirs by brute force alone. That would be impractical.

    As upset as i am for not finding it first......thanks for finding it period. I thought it was nine drums....but your added context makes it make sense why theres 8 instead.

    My favorite myth about Raiden is when he came down and fought for David Lo Pan against Jack Burton in the movie Big Trouble In Little China. Ok, so they never named him in there, but this did at the very least inspire the look of Raiden in Mortal Kombat, or at least has a common inspiration. I'm curious if there is some sort of lore in there.

    I watched 'Taro the Dragon boy' a few times. There's the blue a d red demon and a lot more of japanese mythology like tengu, yuki onna, and the story of how Taro was raised by his grandma after his mother was turned into a dragon before Taro was born. He then sets out to find his mother and on the way learns about rice cultivation and teaches it to the poor people of japan and even has the vision about turning the mountain flanks into terrace fields.

    A big thank you, Jon, as one of my favorite fellow human beings on the reality we live on and call home. For doing a video on one of my favorite demons, Gods/Kami or physical personification of a piece of nature placed with many fictional franchises for us to enjoy. Especially because of how much of the ancient pieces of history we have that are detailed upon him. Along with me giving his name to me, as a self-given nickname for myself, because of my volcanic thundering-like rage issues and my school past as a drummer. Along with me nicknaming one of my honorary American sisters Amaterasu or Izanagi, because of how much she as a slightly older angelic sister of mine is in caring for me and being one of the people in my life that I say try to make my days worth going through with my strength as I have my depression and temper issues. With that as a piece of me being a firm believer in the Japanese mythos along with the Norse and some others on our reality. Always I am thankful you do videos like these as a giant fan of yours, who uses your videos to help in my own research of our world’s past

    Actually, a video about Japan’s indigenous population might be a fun idea as well. I know there is one ethnic group in the north of the country that is considered to be the original inhabitants. Other populations came from China and Korea, even though Japan has such a proud identity on its own. How all this compares to the early history of Shintoism would be fun to learn about.

    Blossoming Thunder from her oyster ditch,

    My favorite depiction of Raijin is from xxxHolic. We first get introduced to him when he gets stuck in a wall of a department store's appliance section. He's got the bad attitude and takes insult very easily, but is overall helpless to refuse any request by Yuuko and (in his last depiction in the series to date) stops Amewarashi from dispelling the rain so he can treat everyone who gathered at the Fox's Oden cart to a lightshow on his departure before they resume the Moon Viewing party.

    Complete side note- you should look into an animated full-length film from the late 70’s, based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It can be found on UA-cam. Winds of Change/Metamorphoses, one of those films that have both titles associated to it. I’ve got a soft spot for it, it was one of those “things” that incite a passion to know more, the kick off of a love affair with mythologies in general. Could possibly make for a great comparison video 🤷🏻‍♀️

    You forgot: Perun is the Slavic god of thunder and lightning, and the highest god in the Slavic pantheon. He is also the god of the sky, storms, rain, law, war, fertility, and oak trees. Perun is similar to the Norse and Germanic gods Thor and Odin, and is often depicted as a strong, bearded man with a winged helmet, ax, and lightning-tipped arrows.

    I was aware of the myth in 2008. I like the version of the two brothers portrayed in Inuyasha. 😂 The younger brother is obsessed with trying to get a full head of hair. He finds a potion recipe that calls for the skin of a young, beautiful woman.
