- A year living, working and playing at Halley VI in Antarctica. The newly
opened British Antarctic Survey Research Station, situated on the Brunt
Ice Shelf at 76° South. A mix of Timelapse sequences, video and still
photography. In the 'real world' Ian works as a climbing and mountaineering instructor and can be contacted through www.climb-mountains.com.
what a ingenious design for the Antarctic, excellent place for further discoveries there, you go Brits!!!
Over the years I've seen dozens of Antarctica docs (IMAX included) and great timelapses and, to me, you have managed to do one of the most striking and beautiful videos in such a incredible desolate place.
Truly magnificent piece of work. You can be proud of yourself!
Many thanks for your vision, planning, persistence and overall hard work.
Wishing you all the best from Portugal :)
Ricardo Nuno Silva wow. Amazing comment.
Ace! I was there 99/2000. , good memories, excellent summer team.
What I love about this is the mixture of fantastic engineering with an appreciation for providing a nice living space for the workers.
You lucky man, it must have been a fantastic experience. Great film, really enjoyed it.
Hi Ian, absolutely loved the video , I was part of the team that built Halley so its awesome to see it now in use. Hope you don't mind but I shared your video on Reddit cause at last there is a Halley Video that is worthy of the wider audiences
Thank you, for giving us an insight of your
inviroment and of course thanks to you
and all your colleges for doing such important
reaserch for our planet.
This is awesome!! Inspiring stuff!! Absolutely beautiful scenes.
Nice video man. Thanks for putting in the time and effort and sharing it with us. I like the blend of the range of work that goes on and the amazing machinery and operators that make it all possible.
Great video. Makes all the beauty of the place shine for those who cant go there. Thanks for the journey.
Great film. Thank you. - Just been watching Horizon on BBC 2 - regarding moving Halley VI due to the large crack forming in the ice sheet. This threatens casting Halley VI adrift unless moved.
That was fun. Beautiful piano. I love the Halley VI design. I must say, that crevasse looked very, very deep, and that tent looked very, very small out on the ice sheet.
In awe. Thank you.
a great station, to be their!
*they’re
Terrific video; thanks for sharing your experience...
best video from Antarctica base. Congratulation for superb images quality
I love this video. Thanks for showing us the coolest job in the world. :)
Great and amazing video! 10/10
Good job. Congratulations from Argentina.
It's exactly like the designs I used to come up with for Moon Bases etc when I was 12🙌👍😊 living the Dream
Great video! Thank you!
Some great footage there.
great film!!!
Magnifique !
Amazing.
Magnificent film
Just Awesome!
beauty full video , wanna go here
I as well love the music and im intersting in getting hold of.
I have to agree....nicely done video production :)
Oh look. During the polar night there's the *Tropic of Capricorn* wrapping all the way around! It's right ascension pretty much embraces the area of the sky several degrees above the horizon, with a 90 degree declination to the south celestial pole directly overhead at the zenith. This geometrically necessitates the *Antarctic 24 hour midnight sun* during the December solstice :D You can also discern the unmistakable constellation *Scorpius* high in the sky (which only occurs in the southern hemisphere). The stars and sun rotate counter-clockwise and as an added bonus; you even get a lovely glimpse of the *inverted moon* (upside down relative to the northern hemisphere). All of these are damn good indicators of genuine authenticity :P
4:30 clouds formation is interesting
Glad you like it Nick. Ive not got the details in front of me just now but all the tracks are listed in order in the credits at the end. Hope that helps
Awsome, nice, cool, video.
Amazing
Simply awesome! Cute penguins!!!
Greetings from Japan(^^)
Most modern facilities......serviced by Dakota DC 3 designed and first built in 1936 (near the end of video)
Which one? If it's the very end one around the 11 minute mark, then it's called 'The Arctic Light' by Marika Takeuchi, and can be found here on iTunes, just search for the same.
Hope this helps. :)
Great video! I'm curious to know why you raised the buildings. So they don't get buried in snow perhaps?
That was a very cool video... what are the craziest thing you have seen down there?
Could you do a walk though tour of the station?
can you tell me where you got the music from? It is so beautiful.
Great video! Noticed there where no video or pictures of inside Halley. Any reason why not?
Antarctic, High Arctic, Pitcairn Island... remote places. To be more isolated and "alone" only space beats Antarctis.
Recomiendo verlo en velocidad 2. Muy buen video!!!
what's the song that starts at about 2:20 and goes on for three minutes? it's amazing
Love the song. Name?
Does anyone know the piano title played around 11:30
I wish we could see the inside too ...
I'd like to stay there for some time ... I should have tried to become a scientist :( (assuming they allow non-UK people there too).
❤️
Many thanks for sharing. But I will agree to the other person who asked as to why no inside shots of the base.
good stuff i can Relate I was In mcmurdo ross iland Antarctica 2020🐧😎
How do I get a job like this? I really want to work as a penguin.
@ 2:17 when the glorious base VI debuts.
I couldn't stay there six months, but would be willing to pay to visit for a month.
I am currently studying environmental studies and geology with the hopes of one day being able to work in Antarctica.
wow...
🙋♀️ Question 🙋♀️
Does penguin meat taste good⁉️
The station itself seems like something that would be fitting to put on Mars.
Wow
I have just applied for a job at B.A.S do you have any advice?
Marcus Lotinga Bring you own beer ? And don't mess with the Penguins !
Splendid
the intern trying out time lapsing?
WHAT YOU DOING IN ARGENTINA TERRITORI? WHY THE ANTARTIDA? EARTH FLAT? OTHER CIVILIZAITION?
No bell. Please fix. Ta. Nice video.
رجال شجعان..
Be careful though, the chameleon strikes in the Dark!
คนเยอะ ๆ ขี่ออกมา เอาไปไว้ยังไง?
Halleys or Hadleys Hope
looks like a tardigrade :)
Edit: looks like a tardigrade centipede D:
Howl's Moving Castle confirmed :D
this is the hidden alien base at the north pole
I wish they would allow visitors there. Just to help out en enjoy that wonderful world of snow and ice.
Без перчаток даже кушают. У нас в России зимой и 10 минут на холоде руки не продержишь
Was expecting an insider blog style vie. Bit boring
Anybody can visit Antarctica, just takes a few $
There is NO kerv. None.
Personally any human that goes anywhere on this planet messes about with the environment.
WHY THE FUCK CANT YOU LEAVE ONE PLACE ALONE.
sympathy for the devils !!
it looks endless flat
No
1:31 THE MAP IS INCORRECT, IS AROUND OF THE ALL EARTH FLAT!
Argh music video yet again
Nice video, but what's so important? I doubt anything in Antartica is crucial for the planet's well being. And if there is, then they need to change how they're doing things down there asap. It looks to me they've brought heavy machinery, men to operate them, airplanes, supplies, etc. How can polluting the last place on Earth be of any benefit to humanity or the planet?
Very good question. When the earth is a disc and it seems very flat, the workers are all freemasons and they hide anything. For what they need the heavy machines and tons of gasoline. thought they want keep antarktika clean
Such an ignorant question tbh.
You try surviving in Antarctica without heavy machinery and airplanes and supplies lol.
Any "pollution" done for scientific research is minuscule compared to the pollution our countries put out every day in the form of cars, methane from livestock, and industrial waste.
Tell the US and China and other biggies to get their pollution under control before saying our scientific research isn't worthwhile.
Ugh, so annoying. People only even knew about the ozone layer and pollution problems on a worldwide scale because of NASA and other agencies that actually care about our species.
