This has become one of my favorite outdoorsman UA-cam channels because you respect nature and you're fine with stopping hunting after dropping one bird because it's all you need. That ans I live in NH
Great video ,,, nice to make those memories with your dad ,,,, cherish them ... BTW , I think your dad's pairing of an S A Octoberfest with that meal was perfect ... ; ) .....
Great video man. I'm up to 20 birds so far this season in New Brunswick, I only ever got 2 birds in one shot once in my life with my 20 gauge. Keep up the great work good shootin
My Grandfather was Born in Soldier pond and my mom was born in Eagle lake . I miss partridge hunting the logging roads from Millinocket up to the North woods and the Alagash and eastward to Telos and Baxter state park and back down to town . Lots of Birds and a cotton tail or two. If dad and I went up that way in November we always has a shotgun along to pick up a bird or two while deer hunting. I live in Montana now (retired military) and i miss a fall morning walking a logging road up by telos, but Montana gas Ruffed Grouse in the mountains as well as 6 to 7 other upland birds to hunt starting September 1st to start the hunting season. Waterfowl in October, antelope ,, elk and deer in late October and November. and we finish with waterfowl and upland in January. So I am Native Mainer , But I have let Montana keep me here . The Big Sky country is a outdoorsman's paradise. I just don't think to hard about the Rattlesnakes , Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Timber wolves, Mountain Lions, that want to eat me...LOL.
Hey Jesse, I just subbed, I'm from Pembroke , Ontario Canada. I really enjoy your videos, the grouse up here are really scarce this year. The only grouse hunting satisfaction I get this year is watching your vids ....Great vids!!
2021 is looking like another good year for birds. It's been a mild winter with a hot spring. We are in a drought. I'd love to come up there and hunt Partridge.
Was up in the Eagle Lake area moose hunting 6 years ago. Couldn't believe the grouse we kicked up. If you like to hunt and fish the Maine North Woods is heaven on earth
I hope you know man you are the reason I love to fish! I watched one of ur vids on Baxter state park and got inspiration to go and it was literally the best time of my life! Great vid man. Thank you.
Nice wingshot! Your videos are always top tier outdoor content. I can tell you are not in it for sponsors or fame, but just sharing what you love with others
Dad hit the nail on the head. Little water with ground nesting birds makes for optimal survival rates. Last year I did notice quite a large supply of beech nuts as well that helped things this year I'm sure. I was wondering if that may have been the reason why I did so poorly last year though. Everyone I knew running dogs last year did great. Most riding or walking trails didn't seem to do as well last year. I wondered if their diet required less gravel to process food depending on what they ate. This year I've almost ran over a few there have been so many. Maybe I'll swing back around to birds after deer season. Good luck and I hope you tag out. Great video as always.
Do you guys get into many woodcock around there? I'm a college student in northeast MN, and we had a massive wave of them swing through a couple weeks ago. Grouse numbers seem up here as well. Great year to be out. Happy hunting!
I love your videos. I grew up hunting grouse in the UP of Michigan. I had my first successful grouse in 15 years this season with my 6 year old in tow.!
Take a look at your "double" at 6:40". In the distance, at the foot of the fence, in the same line of fire ... a third bird. Three in one. I need a recommendation for lodging because I am definitely coming up there.
Jesse, Great video, love the intro, and its nice to see you still hunt with your dad. Another outstanding video, and sorry but one hell of a lucky shot.
Doesn't get much better! I have but I'm not sure I want to take that responsibility. I enjoy foraging but there is a big difference between recreationally foraging for a few species I know and teaching others. I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt because of it. Maybe i'll do it one day but its a video that will definitely take some time and research to make.
I want to start doing this, but am wary of personal gun ownership. Is there a way to lease/rent one during the season? I just don't want one in my possession year around if you know what I mean.
Nice video. Didn't know you were from Eagle Lake. I was up that way last week for the Zone 3 Cow Moose hunt. Stayed in Cross Lake. Tagged out on Wednesday morning. The birds were few and far between. Only saw 5 in 3 days of hunting.
@@MainelyOutDoorsFrom what we were told, the cold weather and the 2" of snow we got on Tuesday pushed them into the trees. Your right though, we were not really looking for birds. We had moose on our minds.
I saw that, I was thinking it was from the bbs hitting the water based on the timing. The resolution is too low for me to tell from zooming in though. There are ducks there all the time so it could very well have been a duck
Just a suggestion you are getting a new truck instead of a cap and building a camper inside of it why not let the bed open for use and get a nice fold down slide in truck camper light weight and a little more room
Mostly because of the cost. the cap was more multi purpose and cheaper. I might to something like that oneday when its a rig built for only traveling and camping
Would love to see you get out and bust some trails for the birds, seems like it would be possible with the abundance of them. It is much more rewarding to me doing it that way rather than driving around and just stepping out of the vehicle to shoot a bird. Not much sport in that in my opinion.
@@MainelyOutDoors I'm personally in a renovated garage and have a 7 month old GSP that I'm getting on Grouse and Woodcock. Definitely changes how you view the connection between man, dog, and nature!

@@MainelyOutDoors Love your videos Maine looks awesome and As a Montanan I admire your families approach to land Management and conservation, Its been a good bird season too here, good recruitment of almost all species I shot a Mule deer buck 5 point(western count) on Sunday morning at daybreak and spent rest of the day limiting out on Sharptail grouse with a dusky grouse also and my friend limited out on huns, and we jump shot a couple canvas backs on the east gallatin just before dark, cooked up the back straps and liver for dinner...i like to hang my grouse for about 3 to 4 days

Really cool having your dad talking about why there are so many birds out this year. I'm hoping to get some grouse hunting in this year!
I agree. He is very knowledgeable. I loved watching not only for the entertainment, but also learning more about the outdoors and the game I persue.
Hope you get a chance to go out and give it a try! This is definitely the best year for people to learn you'll have lot of chances

I love the 20 gauge grouse, was your dad was sporting a 16 or 12 gauge?

its actually a great year for grouse down here in NB! alot more then last year!
thats not too far off from where I was. Everyone has been saying the same here in Maine as well
This has got to be my favorite thing to do in the fall! nothing better than tramping through the woods with a trusty shotgun at the ready
If you watch the slow-mo when you shot the 2 birds it looks like there was another one or maybe a duck fly away near the pond.

haha lol this type of hunting would NOT be ok by the cops or anyone in sweden, anyway great video :)
haha yeah! This is more of a local practice thats not allowed even in most of the states
what's with the private property?
It was public until people decided to abuse it unfortunately treating the pond as a mud hole for 4 wheelers and cutting trees where they saw fit
