Johann Sebastian Bach wrote cantata BWV 61, "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland" (Now come, the gentiles’ Savior) for the first Advent Sunday. It anticipates the spiritual event of Christmas - the birth of Jesus. With a magnificent French ouverture, J. S. Bach rolls out the carpet for the little child.
So how does Bach's music express the excitement for Christ's arrival and capture His presence? Xoán Elías Castiñeira and Rudolf Lutz explore the cantata and help us understand its magic.
