One of the best bass solo's ever was performed on a Gibson Grabber with Jean Luke Pontie. Look it up, the song is called Egocentric Molecules and it's absolutely a devastating bass gift from the God's
Congrats! I recently got mine, too! A 2019 Ernie Ball Music Man Special HH in CHARGING GREEN with the roasted maple neck. It is GORGEOUS and wonderful to play. Been looking so long for one like this.
I used to hate the Bongo basses but now I have a 6 in stealth black with twin humbuckers. Awesome instrument. Lots of great basses there Jonny. I would have liked to see you try the Alembic bass that was sitting over on the right. Another iconic brand.
@@JonnyDibble It's a bit of a learning curve with them. Lots of variations with the 2 switches and Q knobs. I have the Stanley Clarke model I got years ago ...at a fraction of what they cost now.. It mostly sits in it's case looking beautiful....but whenever I pull it out (especially in the studio) it has such a pristine, pure tone. it will actually get very gnarly or dub as well. Plus, for soloing, you can take it to a piccolo or tenor bass tone. No wonder Stanley stays with them.
So many people talk shit on the bongos till they play one, I loved them since I first seen one, then seen John Myung playing them, finally got one a few yrs ago and got rid of it for my “go to the grave with me bass” which is a 04 stingray but I miss that bongo everyday
@@JonnyDibble well, my Essence 5 only has 3: volume, balance and the low pass filter. Basically, an Essence of Alembic's electronics ;-) The filter works similarly to Wal's (my dream bass which I'll never be able to afford - 2nd hand Alembics can be hunted down for really decent prices while Wals hold their value forever). Love it to bits. It sounds awesome no matter what technique I use. The best, clearest, tightest B string in the history of ever - and yes, I did try a Dingwall. It's my forever bass.
Congrats on getting your dream bass jonny! It looks awesome, especially with the maple fretboard. Are you planning on making a more detailed video/review about it?
Congrats Jonny! I moved on from a great playing Ray34 to an 06 Stingray and have never looked back. The Ray34 was really really good, yet just not even close to the EBMM. I will never sell mine, it's my ride or die. Dig the white and maple, a very classy look, rock on brother!
I own a Stealth Bongo IV like the one in the vid and it is one of my favourite basses. Sounds and plays beautifully. Congrats on the Stingray, mate. Have fun with it!
Oh man, that Gibson Ripper...I've always loved how it looks and how it sounds. I was kinda shocked when, just a month ago, I saw one in natural finish with black pickguard played by the young bass player of a little punk rock band, during their performance at an independent underground festival here in Italy: that sound was massive. The guy told me that his father preferred to gave him the bass of his young years rather than let him waste some money into something who wasn't at the same level despite a high price. I said him to keep it very carefully because it's a really unique instrument. The guy wasn't even really aware of what he was holding in his hands: he was so young... I felt the same shock when I saw an original Fender Precision Elite II on a show! WOW!
Congrats on getting your dream bass. StingRay was mine too, back in 1989, saved up and sold my Westone Thunder III. Had a load of sellers to call in the Loot free ads paper. Didn't really know the difference between EB and pre EB but got the tube across London to Edmonton and bought a pre EB 1980 black/maple StingRay for £440. Was like a dog with two dix for the next couple of weeks then bought a Trace Elliot GP7 4x10 combo. I was nineteen years old. StingRay stayed with me 8 years then got swapped for a Warwick Streamer Stage 1. Now playing EBMM Sabre Classics. Been a great journey. I'm sure yours is too.
I had a 2006 candy apple red musicman with black pickguard and maple neck/fingerboard that unfortunately got stolen along with my car. I loved that bass. Luckily my insurance paid for a Sandberg California JM-2. But still would love that MM stingray back. Or maybe a vintage p-bass.
And another Wal bass! 😀 I was watching Scott's Bass Lessons' video only last night about the one from the 'Do They Know It's Christmas' video clip he'd bought for $20k recently! 😀 BassBros looks like an awesome place, a bass paradise! 😀👍
I started with a newer video of yours and later found this. Your bass playing is really getting better. (I’m sure you can hear how wonky your time is in this). Wanted to tell you I’ve noticed your improvement!
Thanks for this video - what a shop for bass players! I liked the blue Japaese Fender best for looks and it sounded very good too. The white Musicman you bought is gorgeous and sounds even better. Happy you got it for yourself and I like your demos a lot - thanks. I like the Schecter p bass exotic a lot and although they are not cheap they are not silly expensive either. Also a fan of the Yamaha TRBX 504 and 604 basses.
Congratulations on the Stingray Jonny. Looks exactly the same as one I had a few years ago. Very versatile, I've done around 1200 gigs on my nat ash SR4. Correct choice of bass, HH & SR-5 do not quite sound the same. Well done for not wasting 7k on that Wal! I got one in 92 for £400. Kept it a few years but but was only ever a back up for my EBMM Stingray.
Fantastic mate, very happy for you. Thanks for the demo's! I still love P-basses dearly so I might have gone for that 62 reissue one but I must say the Lakland impressed me as well. Their five string jazz basses are awesome as well! Enjoy playing your Music Man man! ;-)
