This is a great review. I love how you add the ones you wouldn't attempt and why. Good reminder to think hard about the role a garment will play in your existing wardrobe before taking time and effort to sew it.
Hi Cath, I am hooked on you channel. Loved all the patterns. I am new to getting patterns on line. I have a box full of paper patterns, some that I have never used !! I recently purchased my 1st PDF pattern. I am in the older generation and do love the modern fashion. I have been sewing for nearly 60 years. Never too old to learn new tricks. Loved your vlog on what’s in your sewing box and what things you find most useful In your sewing kit. I am going to go through my kit and plan to condense mine. We are soon to move into a smaller place and whilst I will still have a sewing room I won’t have the luxury of all the room I have now. I really like your new sewing cupboard. I am going to check out another of your videos as I have only just discovered you.
Hi Denise, thanks so much, I’m so glad you’re enjoying my channel, thank you for watching! That’s amazing that you’ve been sewing for 60 years! It’s such a fun hobby isn’t it 😊 Good luck going through your sewing kit and condensing it, I can imagine it’ll be fun to get it all out and go through all of your tools 😊
It's a sign of self-awareness of your personal style that you know which patterns just aren't for you, without having to actually make garments that you then don't reach for. When we first start on our sewing journey it is easy to get sucked into making whatever is the latest "thing"... Your Ogden camis are lovely - sadly I think my strappy cami days are over (I am in my sixties and need more support and coverage ☹). The only True Bias pattern I have made so far is the Emerson pants, which are a cropped trouser (but I have lengthened) with an elasticated back waist, so no zips or buttons - yay! But they wouldn't appeal to you as you're not a trouser wearer. For me, these are absolutely the perfect trousers, I have made more than half a dozen pairs in all kinds of fabrics, and pretty much live in them. I agree about True Bias instructions, they are excellent. I love these videos where you discuss a particular pattern company, and look forward to the next one. Have a super weekend!
Thanks so much Mara. You’re so right, when one starts sewing it’s really easy to get excited to sew all the things! I’m glad you’ve found a go to True Bias pattern too, the Emerson pants sound really comfy. Thanks so much for watching, I hope you have a lovely weekend too 😊
Lovely video! I have the Nikko (have made both the long and short sleeve - love this pattern), the Landers and the Hudsons (not tried them yet), the Rio ringer (to be sewn shortly), the Marlo (made two, one short and one long - really great) and the Ogden (made at least four..). I really like this pattern company. Their patterns are easy to sew and easy to wear. Thanks for showing us your makes!
A brilliant idea and very helpful, insightful and honest. I have what was the Yari pattern, now called the Rory. i had somehow forgotten i had it till recently, Im about to make it up, in hopeful anticipation. The Ogden cami has been a great success for me too and i have it as a silk going out top, a couple of denim and calico for day to day summer, or over tops in winter, with a pocket on the denim one, reused from old jeans, also a few as nighties! Thank you for sharing your thoughts
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! The Ogden is such a versatile pattern isn’t it! Definitely one of my favourites. Hope you enjoy sewing your Rory jumpsuit, it’s a pattern I’d like to try too
I think the only princess seam dress I enjoyed wearing was my wedding dress (it had a built in corset). I'm much more comfortable with some sort of waist seam, and darts fit my large bust in a more flattering way. Great review!
Thank you very much! I think making one’s own clothes really makes one think about different shapes of clothing and how they suit our bodies. I am definitely still learning what suits me best and I am really enjoying learning about all the different options. I’m off to check if my wedding dress was princess seamed now, I’m curious 😄
🇨🇦😃 wonderful information! Thank you! I’ve got to get my son a new sweatpants pattern soon as he’s growing out of my kids pattern and have been considering the mens hudsons
Thank you very much 😊 I hope your son likes the style of the mens hudsons if you do make him some of them, my husband really likes them and at this rate I’ll move my son onto them too when he gets big enough if he carries on loving his sweatpants 😊
@@madebycathcraft I was looking last night and apparently I already bought the mens patterns for pirates joggers so I might try that one first… I use jegging fabric to make him “jeans” out of the kids pattern from them because with his sensory problems he can’t wear much store bought… I’m glad I remembered though
Lovely video Cath. I’ve only ever made one True Bias pattern - the Roscoe Blouse - which I really like! I have been thinking about making a Shelby dress for a while… still on my “one day” list!
Thanks so much Sarah! I have admired a lot of Roscoe blouses on Instagram, it looks like a really nice pattern. Hope you do get around to making a shelby, I’d love to see your version 😊
Hello Cath! Thanks for the video, as usual, it was very informative and inspirational. I love all your makes and reason why you’re not making other garments. I really like the Shelby dress on you. That’s the dresses that inspired me to sew princess seam dresses. Those style of dresses looks so feminine on any body type and can be dressed up or toned down with trainers and a Jean jacket. Anyway, thanks for sharing your vlog. I’m looking forward to the next one. Have a great weekend!!
Thanks so much, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video 😊 You’re right, princess seams are such a lovely feature on a dress, I’m definitely going to get my red Shelby out more this summer and try styling it in different ways 😊 I hope you have a lovely weekend too!
Hi Cath, the Shelby dress looks pretty on you but I understand how you feel. I don’t feel comfortable in that style of dress but I think they are flattering on. Thanks for another great video ❤️
Thank you very much 😊I’m really hoping to get some more wear of my summer Shelby this year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some nice weather this summer! x
I just got an email from True Bias that everything is on sale for 15% off through May 1. Hope this helps. It's funny that I don't have any of the TB patterns you mentioned, though I have 5 of their patterns! My favorites are the Lander pants (with the zipper fly expansion add-on) and the Marlo sweater. Nonetheless, I enjoy hearing and seeing your take on popular patterns.
Thank you that’s really good to know about the True Bias sale! That’s so funny that you’ve got a completely different set of TB patterns to me! They are such wearable patterns aren’t they, and fun to sew too, I can see why their patterns are so popular

Once again, I really enjoyed the pattern reviews 😊 I’m tempted to have a go at the Hudson pants, but I’ve never really had any great success with pants or trousers fitting 🙈😂.
Thank you very much 😊 I haven’t done a lot of trouser fitting but I do find the Hudsons to be fairly forgiving if you choose a fairly stretchy knit fabric 😊
I’ve really enjoyed this style of video and the series you’ve been doing so thank you! The Ogden cami is a favourite of mine though I wish the smaller size range had bust darts. I’ve got the Shelby pattern and keep meaning to make it but it keeps getting overtaken by something else! You’ve inspired me to try it. I really like the look of the new tank pattern and shall definitely give that a go for summer. Diana
Thank you very much, I’m so glad you’re enjoying this series! I’m really enjoying looking at different pattern companies 😊 I hope you enjoy sewing the Shelby dress, I find it a really enjoyable sew. The new tank looks interesting doesn’t it, I like the neckline shape and I think it will be a fun sew too.
Yes I agree. Bust darts would make the smaller sizes look that bit extra. I found without them the Ogden doesn't fit right. On me I found armholes gaping. I think it's better if you have a very small bust. The inbetween bust needs the darts not just the plus sizes
Something I find curious is that the Freya and Nikko have totally different fabric stretch capacity recommendations. So I wonder if they really are different...??😅 I caved and bought it, it's on sale now xx
That’s interesting to know - I’m wondering if maybe the Nikko top neckband has a closer fit so needs more stretch there? Hope you enjoy trying it, always nice to get a pattern in the sale 😊 xx
Another really informative vlog Cath. I do find these helpful in gathering ideas on things to make. I especially liked that tiered Ogden Cami dress hack with the colour blocking. I’m currently on my second Hudson Pants, having made one for my younger son, now working on one for my eldest. I’m stuck though. My overlocker won’t work properly, the lower looper thread keeps breaking. Has anyone else experienced that and worked out how to fix it?
Thank you very much, I’m so glad you find these videos helpful 😊 Sorry to hear your overlocker is not working properly, I haven’t come across that issue. Whenever my overlocker misbehaves I always totally rethread all threads from scratch, I’m guessing you’ve already done that but thought I’d mention just in case. Hope you can get it sorted soon.
Thank you very much 😊 I do lose the urge to sew sometimes, at that point I often do take a little break/do a bit of knitting or some sewing for my children of something they could do with and it helps as a bit of a palate cleanser 😊
Interesting visit to True Bias. Love your makes. I think in terms of the Mave skirt, you already made a dress from the Ogden. I don’t think you need to buy the Mave. You’re talented enough to make that with your current skills. I’d like to try the Nico but I’ll try making the Freya first which I have. I love your Freyas but I was concerned about the sizing for me. Unless I try, I will not know, so you’ve given me a push. Thanks
Thank you very much. That’s an interesting point about the Mave skirt thanks, it would be fun to try drafting a similar one myself 😊 I hope the Freya works out well for you on the sizing.

Thanks so much, I’m really enjoying taking a look at different pattern companies and their pattern offerings, I’m glad you’re enjoying watching too 😊

Another great video Cath-thank you!! I didn’t realize True Bias comes from Colorado which is where I live! 😘
Thank you very much Judy 😊♥️ I’ve been really enjoying learning more about the different pattern companies!
All your versions of the Hudson pants are so fun!
Thank you! I have really enjoyed picking out different fabrics for my Hudsons 😊
I love the Ogden cami layered dress. Beautiful
Thank you very much 😊

Thank you so much Cynthia ♥️ I am going to get my Shelby out as soon as it warms up and hopefully start to enjoy the style a bit more this year 😊🤞
I really must get the Ogden Cami. What a great little pattern and yours are all lovely!
Thank you very much! The Ogden cami is such a nice pattern, I hope you enjoy sewing it if you do get it ☺️
What a great video review, I like a honest but kind review. Thank you for taking the time to share.
