When you allow large corporations to make tons of profit with no regulations they put that money in their back pocket and they don't want to spend money improving or maintaining their infrastructure.
I was looking for this comment. You sure right last time there was a big freeze and people died😡😡
@@jacquelinerandle5152 and that one especially was a result of poorly maintained equipment that cascaded from one problem to the next to the next. It's actually quite an interesting story from a technical standpoint of how bad things went. But again, the short story is poor maintenance. Same thing going on here in California with the electrical wires causing massive fires, the monopoly electric utilities are super rich and the shareholders are super rich and the regulatory agencies are retired utility executives, and maintenance and infrastructure improvements are on the bottom of the list of priorities.
Where's Abbott, WHERE'S TED?
You do know Houston is a blue city
Has nothing to do with this
Yes but Abbott took a "personal" hand in fixing the grid (often enacting steps NOT recommended). He personally assured Texas it was ready. He frikken lied, he has always been lying to Texans. Ted is just as bad but I will say he didn't tell Texas he would make sure the grid was reliable.

For example, after the 2021 legislative session, energy companies collectively donated about $497,000 to state officials, including Governor Greg Abbott, who received substantial donations from the energy sector. These contributions are often viewed as rewards for favorable legislative outcomes and lighter regulations, suggesting a strong connection between the energy industry and Texas politicians, particularly Republicans.

A natural disaster, disruptions of the scope and scale due to a hurricane passing through your area can take some time to recover power, water, other necessities. That's to be anticipated, expected, and prepared for the best you can. Comes with that "territory"- gulf area. Thats why we have disaster declarations for the areas so affected.

Centerpoint outages happening at rate of 2.5 times the national average? Now is Centerpoint really doing all it can to get the power restored to its customers in Houston? Are they getting those additional work crews out in the field quickly to work on restoring power in areas without power?
Centerpoint's job is not to provide electricity, it's to provide shareholder value and they have record profits, an operating margin over 23% and an average dividend yield for shareholders of 3.17%. Centerpoint executive's are doing a fantastic job. If you want to blame someone blame Texas voter's who repeatedly voted for representative's and a Govenor who would not effectively regulate or nationalize Centerpoint.
Don't be silly, they are a for profit privately owned company where any kind of infrastructure improvements would cut into their profit margins. The real question is, who thought that making your primary electrical power provider a for profit privately owned company was a good idea? Seriously,,, what is the power company suppose to do??
Buy a GENERATOR when you live in an area that gets hit by hurricanes almost every year.
It's YOUR FAULT people.. You live in that area (hurricane stuff ) and YOU don't prepare.
There is some truth to that, which is why I have a generator as well, but these companies do little to improve or strengthen the grid even after multiple failures for things like heat, cold, or hurricane because its cheaper not to due to deregulations allowing for such. The companies you would think should have perfected deployment and mobilization procedures after how many failures they have had to their grid. They live in a hurricane zone and apparently don't prepare for any weather events either🤷♂️
Best idea: don't live in areas where Hurricanes can take out power poles.
@@Decision_Justice I mean, I'm a fishmonger by trade and require the coast for my work and to provide for those further inland. The power company should have a much better plan in place. When you service OVER 2 million customers there should ALWAYS be a plan in place. As much as people pay for their utility bill that's the least the company could do. As far as a generator everyone CANT afford it. I have one but I would NEVER be insensitive to just say OH WELL ITS YOUR FAULT FOR NOT HAVING ONE. My uncle lives in Texas and a woman my cousin dated recently moved there and said the power was gone LONG before the storm hit. It was an artificial hurricane and an artificially created power outage. Testing the waters for worse.
Ted Cruz where are you???? Did you go to Alaska
All that money spent on MIGRANTS could be spent on this!!
Abbott said this would not happen again. Here we are.
Much of this is due to property owners who refuse to maintain their properties. Trees that grow too close to power lines. Not defending Center Point, they have their own problems, but especially after driving to the Medical Center today, it’s obvious, the City of Houston and property owners have a long way to go to help fix their own problems.
Um...the outage is caused by a hurricane?
@@Here4TheHeckOfIt Hurricane uproots the trees and they land on the power lines. And hurricanes also break large limbs off of trees that land on the power lines. Hurricanes can also snap the utility poles.
In my state the electric company is responsible for making certain the trees are cut back and cannot interfere with the electrical lines should a storm occur. The state legislature is aware that most residents lack the equipment and capability of trimming trees, especially mature trees. So, it's always best to give the utility company that responsibility. Our utility companies hire tree trimming professionals who go into backyards if need be to cut back brush and trees. This is done regularly. I don't understand why Texas doesn't think of this!
@@Here4TheHeckOfIt indirectly maybe….most of the issues were due to tree limbs knocking down power lines. Sorry, to burst your bubble. Anyone who thought this would be a quick fix is delusional. Ultimately, u have to prepare for this yourself and not rely on someone else.
You mean not rely on the people your paying to rely on.
@@basicallyv9873 You cannot rely on Government to save you the moment an EMERGENCY situation like a natural disaster happens. Yes, a natural disaster such
as a Hurricane. YOU WERE UNPREPARED. Beryl will NOT be the last Hurricane to come through Houston.
Doesn't make sense. Then they shouldn't charge you when these outages occur. Who is really relying who?
@@LeeTheVetthat makes absolutely NO SENSE. If that were the case then they would not EVER need to have federal funding for states that have had natural disasters. If the state's need funding then so do individuals in the state. Seems NO ONE is prepared if that's the case!
Stop voting Republican then!!🎉🎉
houston is as liberal as california, we republicans live in smaller cities and we were prepared, none of us whining out here.
So vote for a DemonRat like the one sinking our country right now? LOL
Right, because regular brown-outs do not happen in California under Newsom. LOL
How tf is a private company related to voting republican? There's nothing bad about voting for sane policies.
@@olsonmason1the governor is responsible for the whole state. Don't just blame the mayor for this
Where are you governor at?
You can get a couple solar panels in an inverter.... An all day long you have free electricity
How do you have $600 of chilled food at once for five people? That is a lot of food. They should try dieting. Three small children really don't eat much, and it doesn't have to be cold food either. The adults need to DIET. I know food is a serious addiction, that is why you should be getting in shape ahead of time to prepare for shortages. Then you won't be selling wedding rings to get gas to beg for food.
