    The test is not to see how much abuse you can put up with in a marriage, it’s having the strength and bravery to get out before the marriage destroys you. If you think you get brownie points for being a punching bag, you’re in denial.

      I so want to hear his perspective and thoughts to the contributors interviewed on this subject.
      In my own opinion allowing your spouse to talk, share, and speak fully, freely…. is respectful, loving, and so valuable. I share this from 41 years married.
      James 1:19 amp
      Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving];

    I've been married 33+ years..
    Having seperate bedrooms helps -- especially when you're in an argument. It gives each person a place to retreat to, and time to cool off.
    Not every argument can be resolved immediately, and the solution to the argument may be to just to let your anger subside over a day or two or three, and come back together when your in a calmer state of mind.
    Also, not all arguments need to be rehashed or discussed.
    You can simply drop the matter, and move on.
    Doing something nice - making your spouses favorite meal, or picking up their favorite candybar at the grocery store, or some other small kind gesture can help smooth things over too.
    It's just saying: Yes, we had an argument, but I still love you, and this too will pass....

    Goodness, I wouldn't have recognized Phil Donahue right away. I remember when they met on his show. It was love at first sight. They forgot about the audience and were focused on each other. If people didn't see what was happening between them, it was only because they're blind!

      I didn't recognize either. I think it's sad that Hollywood women ( and some men) feel the need to "stay young." Her surgery really shows, as well as the died hair and heavy makeup. Glad to see Phil is aging more naturally.

    Paul Simon sang, "I know a woman who became a wife....Those are the very words she uses to describe her life!". That line probably destroyed a lot of marriages, but in fact it's true and positive and empowering, because you DO become new entities when you get married! BTW, it's so nice to see these two, still awesome after all these years!

    Thank you for your advice! I've always loved both of you! I would like to give a make-up tip for Marlo. I'm no expert. But, I suggest to darken your eyebrows. I use NYX defining eyebrow pencil. Then, I use NYX eyebrow mascara. These days it's all about the eyebrows. I feel they help define and lift our faces. I also think it can make us look younger.
