The saddest part sbout this whole story is that neither justice nor accountability was served for this family.
The white men, who were both cowards, admitted to the crime after they could no longer be prosecuted. The white woman, lied who lied about her story, is still living and was able to live out her life with no consequence knowing she destroyed another family’s life.
It’s amazing that for decades after the a holocaust, the DOJ assisted in capturing and prosecuting those associated with the genocide of millions, EVEN when those people were well into their senior years, there was zero sympathy for them.
But they did zero to hold the woman in the Till case accountable for her lies and perjury in a court of law (and yes, she did lie under oath) in something that happened in THIS country. Then they have the nerve to close the case.
Think that says it all about “justice” for black people in this country.

A bunch of old racists from a bygone era. Some of the people there might still have a ways to go but the majority of mississippians have come a long way since then. Sarah D, I always say and will continue to say, we will know and see true justice when we stand before GOD on judgement day. Sometimes ago I watched a video where she admitted behind the locked door of her home that she lied about what emmit said and did in the store that day. How can so called grown men treat a 14 year old boy like an adult? Don,t they remember how they used to think and act when they were that age. What would have been the outcome if it was a 14year old white boy she had accused of flirting with her? Emmit was in the wrong place, as everybody knows the deep south is and will always be institutionally racist. Nearly 65years after his murder in the deep south again, a young innocent black man was illegally murdered by two racist vigilantes. Travis and gregory mcmichael were only brought to justice and found guilty because of the video leaked to the public. And ahmuads mother was lied to by the police about how he really died. But she didn't give up and got it brought to a supreme court in Georgia. It was mostly an all white jury with one black man, but after they had watched the video etc, they were unanimously found guilty and awaiting sentence. The whole court case is on you tube, and there was a really unbiased, lovely white judge, timothy walmsley residing. It,s such a crying shame there wasn't the technology in 1955 that we,re very lucky to have today. I was born in january of that year, but I,ve watched the video and read the story of emmit that nearly broke my heart. Watching this video had me in tears. Even though this incident happened before I was born, I am extremely proud that Emmett Till's mother was strong enough to show the world what happened to her son because it shed a huge light on the unjustified acts that were going on in the South, which lead to laws being changed and spearheaded the Civil Rights Movement. I couldn't imagine losing my only child behind a lie. Trust me the woman that told the lie along with all the people involved in his murder, future generations will suffer because of this hurtful deed. No one gets away with anything they do in this life and no one in the Carolyn Bryant Dorham family along with whoever else was involved will never be relieved of the Karma Carolyn created.

I'm British, and have only learned about Emmett and his story in the last few years and every time I hear his name my heart breaks for him and his family. I know there was segregation back then, but even so no one deserved to die like Emmett did, and certainly not a child!
I wonder how the woman who got him killed felt when her kids were cheeky, silly 14 yr olds and how she'd feel if someone lied about one of them and got them killed in the same way she got poor Emmett killed?
She claims that she knows how Emmetts mum n family felt after the loss of her own child, but she has no right to associate her loss with the Tills. I doubt her son was taken, tortured/assaulted and killed?
My heart is with Emmett and his family both now and then, and I hope they find their peace one day knowing Emmett, his story and memory will live on a lot longer than those who ended his life. Respect and condolences to young Emmett and his family. 😞💔❤🕊 x

The DoJ reopened the case in 2018 after a book cast doubt on the testimony of a white woman who was central to the case.
Carolyn Bryant Donham said Emmett had grabbed her by the waist, uttered a profanity and asked her for a date while she was alone in the family grocery store on the evening of 24 August 1955 in Money, Mississippi.
But a 2017 best-selling book, The Blood of Emmett Till, by historian Timothy Tyson, quoted her as recanting this story.
The author said she had indicated - in her first ever known interview - that her courtroom testimony six decades earlier about Emmett’s purported sexual advance was unfounded.
However, the DoJ said in a statement on Monday that the FBI had interviewed Ms Donham, and she had denied ever disavowing her testimony, and did not provide any further information.
They added that authorities concluded there was “insufficient evidence to prove that she ever told the professor [Mr Tyson] that any part of her testimony was untrue”.
“Although the professor represented that he had recorded two interviews with her, he provided the FBI with only one recording, which did not contain any recantation.”

Practically biblical times. My child mind believed that it was AT LEAST a hundred years ago. Now, as an adult, recognizing that it wasn't even a full lifetime ago that a young boy was dragged away from his family and murdered by police, without any hope for justice... it takes my breath away. 66yrs ago isn't nearly far enough in the past to explain away the ignorance.

A government can ostracize a portion of his population, regardless of race, if it wants and having the full consent of the other part of the non-ostracize population. China is doing that atm for example with the ouighour, western governement are doing that between vaccinated and unvaccinated, etc... yet the majority is quite ok with that.

Wheeler Parker is the only one speaking that was a real witness. He and Simeon Wright (deceased) were with Emmett at Bryant’s store and in the home when Emmett was abducted. Read Simeon’s book. He tells us that anyone other than the people named in the book are witnesses. Other people would fabricate stories as though they were there.

I lived in Tennessee during these years, the daughter of a part Cherokee father and white mother and when this happened my mother became active in sit ins in supporting the civil rights movement. Her whole family supported the civil rights movement and of course so did my father, a WWII veteran. Our Methodist church was also active in the bus rides, and we knew a young man who died is one that was set on fire in Mississippi or Alabama (I am now seventy-four can't remember which) At 10years old I witnessed the clan beating folks behind my house at the railroad tracks and my Dad called the corrupt Knoxville Police department to put a stop to it and they refused. It was a horrible time engraved in my memory! We also were fearful of the corrupt bullies, but our faith made us brave. My sister and I went with our mother. Learned lifetime lessons. You will never forget Jim Crow if you lived through it and were taught to hate the injustice of it. I clearly remember this story! What heartbreak for our whole country and especially his family. I remember the farce of the trial too. There was a lot of that in those days. Lawmen were on the take and bullies in uniform all over the south. Thank God a lot of those are gone now. My days and memories will soon be gone but I tried to instruct my kids and grandkids to be different and they are. I don't know how Mamie did what she did God love her.

67years on and the brutal murder of young Emmet Till, today, still resonates around the world as if it happened yesterday. People stand aghast, horror stricken at the callous individuals who miserably and wantonly destroyed the life of this young boy over something so trivial and acted so contemptuously demonstrating his death meant absolutely nothing to them. Worst of all the jury turned a blind eye no intension of finding them guilty. They stand condemned complicit in denying justice in Till's murder. After it became public knowledge through an admission of guilt in a magazine article. The lives of these four actors changed for the worst. They became spurned and objects of distain around their local communities. The men struggled to seek gainful in employment living out their lives just above the poverty line. It seems some small measure of justice followed them. Becoming causalities, a making of their own reputation which always preceded them. But it ain't over, one day soon they will be raised from their dusty beds to hear words directed to them personally,“ And the king shall answer, and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these, My brothers, you have done it to Me ...Matt 25:40
