As a Navajo, I/my family had that same stove before, while living in a female hóóghan.
To quickly cook on that stove, you see the door/opening for it? There is a base/flat plate in front of the opening that forms a shallow bowl. What you do is bring out the red hot coals onto that base and evenly spread it out. Then you'd place your pot/pan/bowl/etc to cook/boil your food/water faster.

I am a Navajo who was born and raised on my homeland Navajo reservation. Kudos to you for experiencing what it is to live in a hogan (prounounced Ho'gone' ) translated to english it means "house" "home". We would have been watching you at 27:26 laughing at the funny acting "white guy" wondering what on earth is he doing?

From ages 6-9, my father ran the trading post in Nazlini, outside of Ganado. We were the only white family for many miles. I learned a lot about the Navajo culture that stick with me today. This was back in the late 70’s, basically no technology. Wild times.

To cook on the wood stove, you close the door and close the dampers on the front. It'll keep the heat in when the fire is going good. You can leave the damper a tiny bit open to heat up fast but otherwise keep it closed so the wood lasts longer and it doesn't get too hot. I'll send you an invoice. You're welcome.

Best nights sleep I ever had when I slept in one on the Navajo reservation. Came with traditional diner and breakfast and was set up next to my host family’s trailer. The only items it had was blankets on the ground, a stove I didn’t have to use for heat and a wash basin. The doors always face north because that’s where the Navajo came from. A great people and the highest percentage of any ethnic group with US military service. American flags everywhere and I almost got to meet a Navajo code talker but he was a little under the weather that day. That was at a PowWow where I was invited to and natives promised they would not scalp the pale face.

So first, the fact that you take the time to put whatever Celsius would be for your viewers is amazing. You truly care and take your time to hit every target audience, that’s why you’re rising to the top so quick!
    Secondly,
You didn’t want to show us the “pit” of the toilet but I know for sure because I’m the same way. The “fear of loss” made you want to “go to the bathroom” so quick after that bit. lol

A little trick I learned during a cooking class I took at TrueNorth Health is that their chef likes to use brown rice flour to thicken soups & stews. It's also flavor neutral. Easy to find at Whole Foods, many grocery stores and online. (I'm not a fan of corn starch flour either).

I live in a town that boarder the Navajo reservation, there are many things that are extremely interesting in their culture, they are a matriarchy society, when the women passes they by traditional burn down the Hogan, there really are skinwalker, that they do not mention, they are the largest reservation in the nation, there was a major event in the 70s that brought attention to the treatment of the native ppl theres a book the broken circle on this event, there is another book called the Twilight labyrinth it talks about the PowerPoint around the world and the Navajo reservation is one the five, tony hillerman skinwalker also is a great book on the reservation. The Navajo taco is one of the greatest foods. They are the only reason we won ww2 codetalers, their language is a dieing language and is often compared to the Latin language. Just some interesting facts.

Do you have any kind of toilet in the van or do you always have to stop somewhere? What do you do when stealth camping in the middle of the city and have to go number 2 at night?

I enjoyed this one a lot. So cool !! If it had been in a forest, I would have to go stay in one. I really dislike desert, sand, wind. I personally really like greenery. Way to dry in the desert. Thumbs up for content from S. California.

I was wondering the same thing. I came up with that with all the sitting in the van, he likes having a good stretch of the legs and maybe so he is not tempted to can the idea of sleeping there and running off to the comforts of his van.

Drink the majority of your water within the first 10hrs of waking up and try not to drink anything after 7pm. If you do just take small sips. That will prevent you from having to get up in the middle of the night.
