Big map tiny planes, looks a lot busier than it is. And since this is GA, most of those aircraft are either not talking to the FIR at all, or only have basic flight following.
Most of these planes wouldn't have been talking to ATC at all. There were so many planes that even the ones that did request flight following were told "no".
Awesome... I was flying one of the Cessna's through that. Figured I'd give Burlington Approach a call to see if there's any chance I could get flight following back home. "Unable flight following, there's too many of you guys" lmao
@@sharklouis1141 not a dumb question, flight following is a service ATC may provide to smaller airplanes, giving us radar coverage and alerting us to nearby airplanes. Most of the time there's no issue getting flight following, however the controller is allowed to decline a request for it, like in this situation where they were busy dealing with a lot of other traffic.
@@rehanlone7420 you can still fly in most of the US airspace under visual flight rules without talking to a controller, you just have to see and avoid other air traffic and navigate on your own. Even if you’re talking to ATC, pilots are still expected to see and avoid traffic, unless they are in a cloud
Down by Indy in the NASA resort next to the airport, I’d seen a Southwest 737, Allegiant A319, and even a FedEx MD-11 I think once. During the eclipse, I saw a United 737.
If they are like me they need the slightest excuse to go on a trip :) I love riding my motorcycle but i only do it when i have some reason. In the case of those pilots it was maybe a similar excuse to go enjoy some flying?
I have great pity for Air Traffic Control dealing with that.
The FAA knew what was coming, so they overstaffed a bunch of airports in the path of totality.
The planes look big on the map but they are infinitesimal compared to how large they're displayed.
Most were probably flying without speaking to them anyways.

Yea it was far more busy that usual departing out of indiana, i would say about 8x - 10x the air traffic than usual, there were some close calls
Like a swarm of bees or ants gathering food. 👀 Fascinating!
Wheres Greta when we need her?!
When we think about how few aviation accidents there are, compared to all the daily flights around the world. What a job air traffic controllers do!
Most of these planes wouldn't have been talking to ATC at all. There were so many planes that even the ones that did request flight following were told "no".
And the pilots! They must follow instructions to the letter and be mindful of traffic in their vicinity.
The sky is much bigger than you think. Even if there was no air traffic control at all, almost all collisions would be on or near the ground.

Sorry if that's a dumb question, but what's a flight following ?

“Hey guys, come look at this!”
*shows phone*
Guys: *runs off*
I love it how they just all leave once its done 💀
I mean we had to go home at some point lol
It was like being in a crowded room when someone suddenly farts
like little ants💀💀💀
“alright guys, eclipses over everyone go home”
this is awesome! I hope you publicly list this video

@@Flightradar24DotCom Thanks! Just found it thanks to you making it public :)
What you mean by ''List this video''?
That is super cool, especially when you get to see it on the radar like that. I love Flightradar24 for those reasons!
love how this video shows both the GA flights going to the eclipse path and all the traffic for the sun n fun fly in
I saw multiple jets flying and chasing the eclipse from the ground, it was so cool!
Why is this so funny, the planes go to the midwest and leave right after
"Why is this so funny". Are you saying you think it's funny or others think it's funny?
@@visarr I am saying I think this is funny
@@SkyDubai676me too
Fr. What else is there to do in the midwest.
@@visarr does your family have a history of autism by any chance?
Fascinating how you can barely tell they're doing it until the line breaks
Why did this video suddenly make me feel itchy?
I was one of those flights! CYOO -> CYSC then after the eclipse CYSC -> CYQB
this pleases my autism greatly
Would you say... it tickles your 'tism?
Yay! I hoped to see some thing like this.
AWSOME!!!
at 0:07 you can see all the planes that are going to view the solar eclipse from the sky
Flight Radar 24 has a UA-cam CHANNEL?! You don't know how this helped me SO MUCH to planespot over the last 3 years!! New Sub Here!!! Keep it up!!!!
lol this was awesome! I would've never thought about this lol
That’s pretty great. I was following a few planes which were trying to get to the path but I didn’t know there were so many. Not surprised though.
Props to the ATC who Handled planes at my Hometown (MCI/KMCI)
Haha. Was also one of those. Burlington approach was extremely busy.
Great app! 👍
"Then you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun"
it reminds me of that ant desktop smasher application on old windows computers
Amazingly, Kansas City center was providing VFR flight following through most of that!
I love data visualization.
The eclipse behaves like a magnet
Florida somehow managing to be just as congested the entire time
NICE
Wait this was uploaded by Flightradar24, officially. That's mental.
So the eclipse wasn't cause by the Moon but by all the planes flying there?
🤔😱🤯
Amazing. What's with all the "beehives" around the country? The mountain edges, for one. I get Florida, I think.
I was in totally and a small plane happened to enter my pov while video was running.
like a bee swarm.
"we must stop using planes to save the planet"
funny moon event happening : "are you sure about that ?"
Aww little ants
I was in a plane when that happened and sor it

aircraft murmuration
Millions of tons of CO2... What a nightmare...
Just look at Europe.
Will ATC ever use AI?
Bug
why the fuck was Florida packed?
Because all the New York retirees live there.
Also the Air Force and Embry Riddle
GA piston and turboprop aircraft are the bane and laughing stock of the aviation world
ppl seriously flying across the country for that?

Yes, and you should too.
I drove two days across country for it
I will for the 2045 eclipse.
Was so worth it!
Following the totality for kicks makes sense, but...
What are those three little dense pockets of traffic in the west? 🤔
Why do us pilots look like bees after they just got smoked?
God ATC gotta lay off
