Great stuff! Just noticed that Jake muted tracks but didn’t mute the regions on the play through. Pro tip: as far as I can tell, muting tracks doesn’t save the instruments from playing the note - effectively, it just turns the volume all the way down. For lower CPU usage if people are stemming out the old-school way (bouncing one stem at a time), it’ll be much quicker on your systems to lasso solo regions rather than soloing tracks

It's not as unobtainable as it might seem. Current self-built (desktop/consumer platforms, like Intel i7/i9, or AMD Ryzen - not workstation/high-end like Intel Xeon or AMD Threadripper) PCs support 64GB of RAM, you just start out with a single 16GB stick and add as needed. I'm at 32GB at this point and fully expect to upgrade as my needs expand. My system was $1000 and you could easily have spent less on things like GPU and storage.

Hi Christian and Jake ! When I create a template, the first thing I do is synchronizing Auxes and Busses because it's really more handy not to have to check the input of an Aux ! If I know that Aux 1 is fed by Bus 1, Aux 2 by Bus 2, It's much more simple, don't you think ? I just don't let Logic create a nightmare ! So, I start creating, say 256 Auxes with sync'ed busses : Select all Auxes and click the input box and Shift+Option (alt) select Bus 1 and all the other auxes will receive the same bus number, that is to say : Bus 1> Input for Aux 1, Bus 2 > Inpit for Aux 2, etc... That way reading the console is far more simple ! Anyway, your templates are genius ! Thanks for all your care ! ;-)

Thanks guys. A video on stems would be good as I’ve no idea what they are being new to all this. I’d love to see a video of using the Core template to score a short piece to see how the different articulations are incorporated. Do you write celli for example on one track then move bits to the correct articulation tracks or do each bit separately on the correct rack etc. sorry if these seem basic questions but I’ve never done anything like this before. Many thanks once again.

Just a quick question I'd like to get an answer for Christian.
Could you people implement both an batch re-save mechanic as well as a traditional purge samples mechanic into BBCSO? I'm asking this primarily because the audio workstation I use, Image-Line's Fruity Loops Studio (laugh if you'd like), lacks some essential features needed for working with big templates (such as freeze track/channel). I'd be grateful if any of you could implement these mechanics down the line.

Do you see the ability to switch on/off techniques and edit them coming to the core version as it is in the pro? Right now only way for me is to use your template which has them already split between longs and shorts. About the RAM, that's strange... positively strange. I use BBC SO Pro with my 8 cores 16 threads 64gb RAM and very fast HDD and it runs flawlessly, of course. I've bought a laptop, for sketching. i7 1665G7 HP Envy x360 with 16gb RAM and very good 1tb HDD and never thought of using BBC SO Pro on it. I tried... Perfectly SMOOTH. 60 tracks with PRO, lots of articulations. The HDD runs a lot but no crackles, no drops... nothing. The Presonus page on optimizing Windows 10 for pro audio is a bliss. It totally changes your experience. No drops. With 256 buffers. I'm no Spitfire Audio advocate at all, I'm the first to be surprised of the performance of the library on a quite common laptop, even on battery.
OPTIMIZE YOUR WINDOWS! :) Use your PC only for audio, create a safer account for common tasks and an optimized account for music. No web.
    The Presonus page:
    support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025279231-Optimizing-Your-Computer-for-Audio-Windows-10
There are many more ways to relieve your pro audio PC. Lots of uselesss services that can easily be disabled. It changes everything. Today's gear are more efficient than we think. Optane HDD drives are phenomenally quick on read. I'm no hardware pro though.

The Spitfire Instrument does accommodate the Logic Articulation Sets, at least in the BBCSO Pro version (haven't had a chance to check the Core or Discover versions yet). In order to get them to work you have to set the Keyswitch one octave down in Logic compared to that shown in the Spitfire Instrument. I've had a couple which don't always "behave", in particular the Timpani (and that could be errors in set up on my part) but most appear to work.

IS SPITFIRE BBCSO FULL OR CORE RIGHT FOR YOU? I am about to be extremely picky, but hear me out if you are a pro. Let me start by saying I actually bought/paid for: Symphonic Woods and Symphonic Brass, Chamber Strings, and Albion and Solo Strings, and Loegria and Frozen Strings, and a bunch of other libraries, Cinematic soft, Intimate Grand, Hans Zimmer Piano and BBCSO Core. I fecking love Spitfire. I have spent a ton of money on Spitfire samples. BUT: While I like BBCSO CORE for many reasons, none of the instruments compare to the individual Spitfire Symphonic libraries that, thankfully, I already own. The legatos are all pretty nice, but in CORE, there is no close mics, you just get one mix,. AND even with the close mics in BBCSO "PRO" the samples nowhere near as good as the Symphonic series...to my ear...no where near as good. BBCSO is pretty great for sketching, but if you are as particular as I am, then you might find yourself making excuses. Once more I LOVE Spitfire samples and use them as default, but this whole "One Orchestra we can all share," is a bunch of baloney. Yep we can all share it, but neither BBCSO CORE or Pro have the versatility or character or presence of the Spitfire Symphonic libraries so we are really only sharing "good sketches." Thankfully I have all of those other libraries. I downloaded the BBCSO Template and then duplicated tracks so I could keep all of the wonderful routing, and the best of the BBCSO library, but then added all of the articulations from the earlier Symphonic libraries and I have to say I can make mockups that are truly representational of how the pieces might work with a real orchestra. I have used them in a real feature film and no one has noticed. Once we got to Albion we where at a stage where we could actually mimic a real orchestra well enough for all but the most discerning listener. Film loving audiences are very forgiving to great sample libraries, it seems. The average Joe might "feel" something of a difference, but if the script and sound design are good enough you could really just use Albion and squeeze by for most audiences. And the indi filmmaker always loves that. So, in my opinion, after Albion I was never looking for something to just sketch stuff out. We have got to the point where Spitfire libraries can actually carry a real film score if you pay attention to the details. And for my money BBCSO Core and BBCSO Pro, fall "slightly" short of the mark. Combined with the other Symphonic libraries Spitfire has put out, then yes, they are highly viable, but they have to be "combined" and thus we can really only share "good sketches." Okay, let's say BBCSO gives us "great" sketches, they really are great sketches, BUT, was that the point? Let me try to illustrate it this way: If you are like me and got the BBCSO Discover edition and then upgraded to Core and actually wet your pants at the wonders of the extra round robbins, for example, then you are going to actually levitate off the floor if you further upgrade to the Symphonic series. They are beyond sublime. The difference is truly night and day, far superior to the BBCSO Pro edition. TOTALLY convincing to the average listener and utterly inspirational to work with. I am so in love with my current Spitfire template and feel fully able to deliver orchestral works of the highest caliber. But in truth, I was almost already there with all of my previous Spitfire libraries. In real terms I might actually have paid the 400 bucks for BBCSO just to get some really great routing templates, better timpani and an English horn! You all know why you want it...COZ IT IS THE BBCSO recorded at Lindhurst, we are all such fecking snob wannabees. It is a truly wonderful addition to our workflow, but think twice if you already own the previous Symphonic series. In the end I love that I can tell people "oh, yes, I use the BBC Symphonic Orchestra" it says so on my template, but most of the articulations I actually use are from the Symphonic series.

@@TheCrowHillCo On Reaper 6 the reconstructed Garageband template for BBCSO Discovery makes my trusty iMac call for an ambulance. It takes around twice the CPU power (~70%) of the Garageband template. RAM is no issue at all in both cases. Interestingly BBCSO needs more RAM in Reaper than in GB (1.16 to 1.01). If someone likes to play around with the Reaper template, drop me a line ...

I just got BBCSO Core and my iMac is struggling with it. I've had to increase the buffer size significantly; it's definitely more CPU intensive than EW so far as I can tell. That said, my iMac is getting on, and I could probably use an excuse for the upgrade..... Handles the Discovery library like it isn't even there though, it's tiny.

TheRealWinsletFan interesting can you let me know what you’re struggling with and what your specs are, not just computer but your settings in DAW and the BBCSO plugin?

      @TheRealWinsletFan 4 роки тому +1

@@TheCrowHillCo Hi, I'm on a late 2013 iMac 27" with a 3.4GHz i5 and 24GB Ram, the BBCSO samples are on an external Samsung SSD connected over USB 3.0 (direct to iMac, no hubs). I use a Scarlett 18i8 Audio interface. I have not made any changes to the BBCSO plugin settings as yet - though that was my next step. Memory pressure is a definite issue, as the performance improves if I make sure to shut down everything else (so many toolbar wigits!). DAW (Cubase) I previously ran at 128 samples, sometimes 256 depending on load. I had set to 1024 samples, but 512 actually seems a reasonable compromise. I configured up the Satie session from your other video with Core instruments, and a version with equivalent EW Hollywood. The BBSCO test was using about 8GB, and the EW about 9GB, both have a couple of horrendous drop outs on a first playthrough - so much for SSD! The EW player makes a near constant 30-35% load at 512 samples buffer size, the BBCSO player was spiking over 55%. At 256 samples it was over 160%. These aren't the most rigorous tests around, but if you have any suggestions short of buying a faster computer I'd love to hear! :-) (This machine is getting a bit long in the tooth though, so maybe I should just replace it)

I see what might be an inconsistency in the naming system:
You write Viola/Violas and thn Cello/Celli. Which means you treat Viola as an english name when pluras and the Cello as the proper Italian (Celli in plural).
But maybe this is the actual standard in naming the instruments however inconsequent it may be?

Ha.. I'm right there with you. 8g MacBook Pro that is several years old. Though I do think it's all about what level you're writing at, what style and you're workflow.
I don't write orchestral scores at present (hybrid at best) and bounce out regularly, so don't find that I hit the buffer too often but definitely eyeing up a Mac mini with 32g soon.
In addition, I have a studio room in the garden where my drums are and had a full set up there for a long time but honestly, found that there was something artificial about going out there which affected my zone.
I've now made a corner in a room upstairs with a smaller midi keyboard and I'm finding myself much more motivated to sit down and do a little work up there when the mood hits.
If I was full time composing at high level though, then I would relocate to my outdoor space but right now, it's working well.
