Hey Chrisitan! UA-cam added this new functionality called Chapters where it adds the sections over the timeline of the video. To make it work you just have to add the timestamps on the descriptions but it is really important that you add a 00:00 timestamp at the beginning for it to work. Cheers!! Enjoying the Core library, but still struggling to make anything worthwhile beyond a 4 bar loop.

Perhaps the most consistently brilliant creator on UA-cam, videos like these and product like BBCSO Discover and Pianobook open doors that most people can only dream about. You're an undeniably valuable asset to not only budding composers like myself, but to this entire platform. Proud to be a subscriber mate.

It’s always so validating to hear of another successful and celebrated composer who can’t read music. I’ve often felt ever so slightly inadequate for not being a “fluent” sight-reader, and hearing somebody like Christian Henson, or Tim Minchin, or Paul McCartney, or Danny Elfman say they can’t read music either does wonders for my self-esteem.

Mr Henson, thank you so much for sharing all your experience & knowledge , since i've started diving in your work , i've grabbed a massive 150 GB of content for a ridiculous cheap amount ... you managed to bring me back to classical music with a new way of listening to it .... Thank you again.

Absolutely brilliant guys and for me, one of your best videos so far. A real popcorn video that I devoured with an Irish Coffee!
I need to go back and just complete getting my head around the mix and playback separate stemming but it was exactly what I needed to see at this point.
Gave me an idea though of how you could take it one stage further. If you're of a certain age, you'll remember that game where one person's draws a head a neck and then folds the paper over for the next to draw the body etc?
How about doing something like that but with a musical composition? Could be amusing if not immenently educational! 😏 Cheers.

I'm jaw-dropped at the resources you've just provided - first, Jake Jackson's how-to for his Cubase BBCSO template and now this one on templates in general. Honestly, 24 hours ago I thought I was just buying software. Every time I stumble on a new level of Spitfire instruction, I buy the next mode up from the one I bought 24 hours ago. (Or who are we kidding, this is more than instruction, it's like having a musically savant cousin drop by and then stay for 6 months until you've "got it", at no charge). I've gone from Discover to Pro in less than 3 days because I see now I've got the after-instruction to actually make good use of it and even master the thing. Has anyone else been completely overwhelmed by the world of templates up to this point? I consider the Jake, Christian, Alex and Andy templates worth $999 themselves, before we even get to the bloody software. Other companies could learn from this customer service - but at this point I have no appetite for the competition. Why leave a furnished house? THANK YOU SPITFIRE.
P.S. I'm absolutely no one of consequence and do not work for any audio or software company.

@@unclemonty9506 I've spent around £1,200+ on spitfire products and was buying "Albion" first time round. I have spent a few grand on other libraries too. In fact I bought the first decent notation programme in 1989 called C-LAB "Creator/Notator" with Mirage Dsk sampler and library that was £2,500+ at the time and a lot of money back then. So I have seen and put my money where my mouth is from the beginning of sample libraries. I moved over from composing to performance last year and so I don't follow any of the sample Lib development for this time until I was emailed about this. So, I tried the free lib not believing what a great lib it is. Also, if you ever run a company you will need Feedback to gauge your product relevance so offering something for free is NEVER free as the information gathered helps the company with relevance and the customer need in regards to product. It's ironic that you take that tone because the first time I heard of Christian it was a similar silly thing, hence the VSL moan lol. Also, I have two channels on youtube and one [Clifford Martin] where I demo spitfire and other stuff so the evidence is there should you wish to check it out. ...Incidentally you have NOTHING on your channel, can't afford to make a video? Tightwad lol!

Tip for those, like me, if trying to work on a large project on a lower powered computer where it's starting to grumble a little... print the stems to audio as Christian does in the video, but do each stack one at a time. Then create a new project with the template and import the print stems. Re-route the output of the Print tracks to Bus 255 and do your final mix from the audio stems.

Thanks for so many videos! Greetings from Argentina!
Unfortunately, I don't speak English well (this is from a translator) and this complicates things a bit.
I am working creating orchestral music for a video game, my first experience, and I am extremely excited.
I recently bought my BBC PRO version, amazing !!!! It has made me grow and really enjoy the compositions.
I downloaded the template, but unlike the one shown here, it has all the versions of the instrument (there is no need to duplicate anything), but above all, many tracks in the mixer in addition to the instrument, and I do not fully understand what each one is about .
Any suggestions on how to learn how to use it? It would be great for me.
I have become a fan of Spitfire, its way of doing things and collaborating with musicians, and obviously, a follower of your videos.
Thanks again for so much passion and dedication!

Hello! Great video, very very useful. I would really like to see a video where you show us how to create a template like this, of course in a much smaller scale. Maybe with only woodwinds or an instrument family. The routing is very tricky, even by looking at one of the templates you did, it's hard to understand how everything works. Maybe show us how to create the Print tracks/folders, or how are you routing the verbs and stuff.
Anyway, thanks again for the video, great content!

Great video - absolutely love seeing Jake and Christian together in these.
Question for Christian - how would you use BBCSO when scoring something large and bombastic like Mars, Bringer of War? I'm doing this for an audiodrama I'm producing and I've found it difficult to take the amount of instruments in the sheet music and, using your incredible template, making them sound real when so much is going on, i.e. six different Horn parts??
Question for Jake - When you're doing your initial solo pass, do you have a reverb "space" in mind when you're dialing in your individual instrument's reverb sends?
Thank you both for your continued contribution to this space - it's truly incredible.

Thank you for creating this video series on how to use these wonderful and expressive sample libraries.
I already downloaded the Discover version but don't own any of the DAW's for which templates are available on 'the Page'
Now I see how fantastic this works, having a template for my DAW would make composing and exchanging with the modes so much easier.

Maybe you could add a guide to create such a personalised template to 'the Page' to help out other composers out there.

I now have BBSO installed, and your template open in Logic (and thank you so much for this work!!). But lots of questions...First, how come there is no panning in the template? Is the panning meant to come out through the mic placement - eg the way it was recorded..? No, that doesn't seem right. Should I go through and add my own orchestral panning to each track? Can do, just wondering what that wasn't in the template. Thanks.

Christian, I know it's pedestrian, but could you do a tutorial on quantizing? Perhaps at the idiot level? In all seriousness, I understand the concept and practice, but every time I lay something down that's tempo sensitive I immediately freak out internally about the exact steps I should take in either Logic or Cubase to just lock those notes into time, clean them up, so to speak. Like ... when to use eighth note, sixteenth note, etc. I know what those tempos and notes are, intellectually, but I'm utterly lost as to which settings to use quickly when quantizing, right after I've written some lines. Man, I'd appreciate any wisdom on the subject. Hoping others feel the same way ...

It would be awesome if you could do a tutorial which assumes very little experience. Explain the routing in detail, and why you made the choices you did when creating these templates. Someone brand new to composing who has just purchased BBCSO Core will have trouble following this video.
For example, for someone just starting out, the first thing you do here _("I want to monitor out of [the Mix Monitor], but also I'm just going to send it out to [this output] so you can hear it")_ is going to be completely meaningless to them.

I have used the template for a while. But now that I have continued buying libraries (since bbc), I think it would be cool with an update to the template. For instance I sometimes would like to have the different strings (bbc, AR1, AR2) in different trackstacks/folders, but still keep the structure of short/long/fx aux etc. Mostly I miss an easy way of one button solo/muting just Iconic Strings or others.
I just can't figure out a good way to do it without ruining the template.

Thanks so much for the GREAT video(s)! 👍👍What are the PRINT channels? Do I need them? Also, how can I add a few more soft-synths into the template?

What about a dissection of how the routing/etc. is "built" (like how to strip out specific articulations within CORE on a single instrument track, or how the midi channels are routed, or the signal chain etc.) with a little bit of the methodology behind it? Some real-world scenarios that you have run into, i.e. "When I started working with so and so we came up with this idea that you could do blah blah by routing x into y so that the other people can just do blank without hassle..." etc.
I find that when this kind of information is shared, then other people take it, run with it, improve it, and it goes back to the originator and evolves into something even better next time.

I think this is largely covered in previous videos we made when building these. This is a response to people wanting to see it in use.

Will you guys keep updating BBCSO (fixing issues and new features) and make it better and better? I've summarized some problems I found in some legato patches of some instruments in BBCSO. I've raised a ticket in your community channel and also support tickets, hope you guys could fix that and make it better!

We're always fixing everything we do... our updates rollout for entire range is pretty exemplary IMHO.

Yes, fascinating video, works really well. Rather enjoyed the almost random new instruments call from third party, should be made a regular feature. I bought Core, so I was doubly taken with the vid. Great Stuff, Thanks

Thank-you for this. I've watched so many of your videos lately I almost feel like you live here. I have just rewatched this as I'm heavily entrenched in bringing an orchestral composition of mine into Cubase and I'm using the template. I noticed this time that when mixing, you didn't ever turn on the reverb for an instrument within the BBCSO player (or whatever you call it), but used some other reverb instead. I wondered why that is? Is it just a preference or to save memory (though I can't imagine that is an issue with your set-up).

#oneorchestra Brilliant! I don't know where to ask this, but will there be a Core template for Studio One? Or should I just use the Discover template for Studio One and try to expand that one??

I sent through a detailed template for FL Studio for Discover to Spitfire. I think it would be nice to acknowledge the world's most popular DAW whether or not it has all the bells and whistles of Logic or whatever

Great video. Could you explain how you set up all the audio tracks and busses to print the stems within the session? Is this possible without an multi-channel AD/DA convertor?

    Hi Christian and Jake,
really great video and such an eye opener, thank you.
Question: (Probably more directed towards Jake)
I've downloaded the Discover template for Protools but I dont have the Space reverb plugin.
by any chance could you give us an idea of what settings you used with it? ( so that I can try recreate something similar with another reverb plugin)
Thanks again for all the amazing content, the template blew my mind.

At 20:47 you say the file is only a few MB (80.9MB to be exact without any audio printed)... I'm assuming it's larger with audio. However, when I start adding Kontakt instruments to this template, it begins to become a Behemoth of a file... 3GB. Am I doing it wrong?

Great video, thanks. I love the BBCSO VST, it sounds really good in Ableton.
Given your surroundings, any inspiration for a...wait for it...'Swan Lake' template? (I'll get my coat).

Ever wonder, if there is a function in ANY DAW where you can hide unused tracks. Makes navigating and scrolling through the arrangement much more easier. Ableton has a FOLD option in Midi Tracks. Thats what we need in Arrangement Views. Someone agree?

    Hello Christian,
I hope you're doing well. Is it possible to get a video of how was WALTZ OF THE FLOWERS - PYOTR ILYICH TCHAIKOVSKY created on BBCSO CORE? I am interested in seeing the work flow of how you recreate something that already existing. Was it imported as a midi from a notation software, then adjusted velocity, expression, dynamics, etc on DAW after? Or, was it played directly into DAW? Either way, I am interested in seeing that.
    Thank you

Hey does have any tips or sources on blending Discover with other instruments reverb wise? I did read that it wasn't as easy as finding an IR of of Maida Vale. I wouldn't be using other orchestral instruments and mostly just using this by itself to write epic symphonies. However I also like symphonic metal like Nightwish and am even thinking about singers like Linda Rontsadt and Frank Sinatra that had strings behind them. With the reverb down it's pretty dry but just curious (or lazy) about mixing sampled instruments from different rooms, thanks! EDIT: I guess I was being really lazy, I found a video called "In Depth Tutorial - How To Mix Orchestral Samples Recorded In Different Locations" on the Spitfire youtube channel, pretty good.

Is there a template for BBC Discover intended for cubase elements? Cubase elements allows a maximun of 24 VST instruments so when I open your template I can use about half of them, the others are locked.
