I laughed in recognition at what Jess said about gender. One of the ways I've previously expressed it is that while I have zero interest in doing makeup, I'm SO happy that drag queens and Instagram makeup artists do what they do so I can enjoy their art.
My favorite description of gender, misquoted from a tweet I haven't been able to find since: "Gender is like sports in high school PE. Some people feel like they got put on the right team. Some people feel like they got put on the wrong team, and they'd be happier if they changed teams. Some of us would rather be up in the bleachers reading a book." 🤷🏼

I was that kid up in the bleachers reading a book. Later to find out I'm nonbinary. I'm so mad at how accurate that wound up being for me 😂

I got my finalized diagnosis of ASD! I'm so happy! Right after the meeting with my psychologist, I was jumping around my room and happily flapping my hands, lol.

Hey man... maybe you could let her get to change an items location once a year.
With notice and supply a visual reminder of where it’s new location is... just cuz...sometimes there happens to be a better organizational system... I like reorganization.. but I live just with my kiddo so she doesn’t get a say in where things go... only her room. Lol

You might be on the spectrum if you find yourself going down an advanced technical research rabbit hole. To simply find out why a UA-cam comment recently disappeared suddenly. But I discovered your fun insightful channel and show in the process. - So that was positive. I definitely highly relate to everything said here. The artistic rabbit holes of creative obsession can be intense but I usually keep that under control the best I can. - Unless it's when I'm first getting into a brand new art or hobby. Getting over that simultaneous skill learning curve and thrill of creation, seriously throws off my sleep schedule at first, before everything comfortably moderates back. The show series "Firefly" will never old for me. Luckily all the fans of that series are equally fanatical. and being only 12 episodes in the entire series a lot of that fandom has definitely done the same for sure.... I'll stay tuned.

When's Jess going to run her own channel?
Also, being on the spectrum is just speaking another language.

I keep my room layouts for years and years. If anything moves, I notice. The correct way to organize books is to stack them in piles in the order that you have read them. ShiftyClutch is a great nickname.

id like to hear jess talk about the process of getting diagnosed in the US as an adult woman since we are the "unknown" group and the US is so behind in this area.
The idea of going in and having to tell a practioner that Id like to be assessed for something they dont know exists in my demographic seems like a defeated mission from the start.
Also, has Jess's hair always been so beautiful? Is it a shampoo? Is it genetics? I pull on my hair subconciously to soothe myself so my poor fragile hair gets abused pretty badly.

I recently started doing research on autism and queerness to help myself come to a conclusion about a personal situation. Both autism and sexuality are spectrums. I know that autistic people are more likely to identify as LGBTQIA2S+, but what I don't get is how/why. Is it because we're existing and defying NT societal norms, like cisgender heteronormativity? Is it due to how our brains are wired? Or is it a biological thing?

Might be autistic if you drive with no music because road noise and music together is too loud.

You might be autistic if you would rather be in love with someone from a distance for years than actually talk to them because you know you'll mess up even the simplest interaction.
And constantly changing up the furniture is 100% me!

When my parents replaced the corner sofa with two separate sofas and a small table where the corner of the old sofa used to be, it took me soooo long to get used to it since my usual spot had been the corner. I kept almost sitting on the little table several times. And one day when my favourite TV programme started (pretty sure it was the science show called "Schrödinger's cat"; which were intended for much older kids and adults), I came running and threw myself into the corner breaking the table making the piece of art made of glass that stood on the table and slate fall on my hand.
    It must have looked ridiculous.
So I prefer things, especially furniture, to never change.
Somehow I managed not to get seriously injured, and the glass art was miraculously fine and even the table was fixable with some wood glue.

There have been studies done that show autistics have a higher rate of iding as transgender (binary or nonbinary, both afab and amab folks) than neurotypical people! I love this fact, because I think it's a testament to how enlightened we are, lol. But for real, my theory is that it's in large part due to our perspective on social norms and our questioning natures. Gender is a social construct (*that doesn't mean it's unimportant or invalid, money and marriage are also social constructs) and autistics are prone to poking social constructs with sticks and unraveling all the loose threads, such as those constraining people to assigned gender identities.
Failing to fall in line with social expectations can become a superpower!

Just found your channel. I have watched other 'autism' channels, but I can totally relate to yours. You keep it real! I'm self-diagnosed as being on the Spectrum. I went for testing about 7 years ago and they gave me a diagnosis of C-PTSD. The tests given were primarily for males on the spectrum. I was 53 years old at the time and am a female. Living with ASD for 53 years is likely to cause a person to develop C-PTSD over the course of their lifetime. Anyway, so glad to have found you two!!!

You might be autistic if your family says you contradict your sensitivity to sound because you are also loud and use loud music to block out the painful overstimulating noises. (This happens with me personally)

You might be autistic IF... you're telling Nathan EVERYTIME in the comment section to not cut his hair too short the next time they've grown too much. 😆
(For real Nathan, I do get a little upset when you get your hair cut very very short 😣 I know I shouldn't say but I'm autistic 😭)
One last, you might be autistic IF... seeing Jess along with Nathan as a married couple in Nathan's videos warms your heart, and gives you a little hope to not give up on love. You're awesome guys. I wish you the best of the best ❤

I was wondering if you could refer me to someone knowledgeable about ASD I could maybe get tested by? I’m in Pennsylvania near Lancaster. I was tested before but the guy said he wouldn’t diagnose me (even though my results said I was clearly autistic) because the “prognosis” for BD is to him better than ASD. So instead of diagnosing me he diagnosed me with Bipolar 1 😶💀
