Is this the greatest smartphone camera of all time? Or is it the greatest camera smartphone? I'm confused, but this thing sure does take nice pictures.

Is it Lew or Liu?
+Unbox Therapy Hi ;)
how come you never showed the front camera😢
+Jose Carbajal Lewis Hilsenteger. So its Lew
Sander Bergers ight
So this is a camera with a smart phone instead of a smart phone with a camera.
:D
oh cool, and I thought it would be like every smartphone with a smartphone..
all I've ever wanted
there is a phone called the samsung galaxy s4 zoom and the k zoom ( they are both as good or even better than this one)
only thing better with s4 zoom is optical zoom. The panasonic has better screen, better camera, better processor and so on :P
This was 5 years ago?
Imagine having all the software and hardware privileges in this phone now...
That would've been epic!!!
This is becoming a reality every year. Sony just announced a 1/1.1 inch sensor just a few days ago. The smartphone camera game going to new heights.
I used to be a fan now i'm an air conditioner
+DeeP xDD I'm a PWM fan and I find it offensive
Well at least you're cool.
+DeeP xDD original
+DeeP xDD REALLY ORIGINAL
I evolved from fan, to air conditioner, now to a storm.
Phone Camera?? or Camera Phone??
Ice Bear confused... :-/
XD
:D
Yup, camera phone. Lew said it is a "Connected Camera"
+Ice Bear OMFG! xD
+Ice Bear phone camera. a camera phone as any standard smart phone

"Try something different"
Didn't Samsung try something similar few years ago?
Yeah
Yeah they did, but a phone centered around the camera is still a "different" kind of thing.
+Vladut-Adrian-Cornel Borină *Ahem* 2007 LG KU990

+Levi Ambs samsung galaxy s4 zoom used it when you touch it the camera part just detaches

Damn lue, back at it again with that low volume video
+Suryansh Manocha Wow old shitty jokes. How original.
Would be a relevant joke a month ago
+Suryansh Manocha Pretty sure the audio level is the same as all the videos on this channel, and basically every other YT video. Apparently YT normalizes the audio of videos. So there shouldn't be any noticeable difference between the volume on this video or any other on YT.
Jasanpreet Singh fT?

Love Panasonic, I own a Lumix semi compact camera, I can and always do recommend there products, good quality good design. Good review, thanks :)
Great pics; but it would have been better if it had a second LDC screen on the front so that you can see yourself when taking selfies or recording yourself with that 1" sensor camera. I don't understand why we don't see more cameras like that. Samsung offered some interesting dual LCD screen cameras like that, and I have one of them; but I don't use it anymore since it's only 720p and that's outdated, now.
I'm not a fan... I'll stick with my Nokia 3310, modified potato vision.
lol😂
lmao
+Kenny McCormick I'm not a fan either....... am an air conditioner
I don't belive that you own that, or still use it for that matter
+Kenny McCormick lol
This reminds me almost exactly of the LG Viewty from 2007..nice
Lew looks like the kinda guy to lick his finger while turning the page on an ipad
You... To the top!
Ahahah ! :-)
+Truest Music HAH
+Courage The Brave Ikr
It looks like the 2007 LG KU990, well, kinda.
***** Exactly
that's what come in my mind but as LG KG KU90i
+Mustapha Ben lol, that was my first smartphone with touchscreen. Bu the OS was broken, you couldn't do so much with it,and laggy as hell. And that 5mp huge camera made worse photos than today's smartphones. Technology evolves so rapidly.
+Baltatu Andrei It was my first smartphone with a touchscreen also 😀 I got into modding it & was installing some custom themes... Some good old Java times 😶
+Mustapha Ben Don't forget the S4 Zoom! :D IMO this looks and feels better to me kinda.
I would love to buy expensive stuff then open it in front of a camera for a living...
+captain whatsit most of this stuff he gets for free lol
Calvin Mason *in Eric Cartman's voice* GODDAMMIT
It's called advertising.
Actually you can buy anything online, record a unboxing video and then return it to the store with a refund.
theres gping to be a huge line at the unemployment office when this youtube bubble finally bursts, some people are going to have to get a real job lol....
Panasonic making smartphones I knew this day would come
Unfortunately, that is a 2014 product. No successor to this day.
@@FAT8893 actually Panasonic does make smartphones. They are called 'Eluga'. But they are only sold in India and Southern African countries
@@Sabundy I definitely aware of the Eluga. But I definitely wish Panasonic would make a modern day successor of the CM1 with latest chipset.
@@FAT8893 thats a good point. A new modern version of this would be cool
Holy crap this is amazing. Want.
This is basically the Samsung Galaxy camera thing
.
exactly, this isn't anything new or revolutionary.
+Mohammad Shaheer to be fair this came out 2 years ago
+AwesomeOfAwesomest Not really, sammy one had a shit sensor, this is the real deal.
+ThisIsAPrettyLongUserNameWhyTheFuckWouldHeDoThatSoThatEveryoneWouldThumbsUpIt Samsung had a better one too. I think it was called galaxy NX. It had an APS-C sensor which will destroy the 1" sensor on this thing.
what Lew never mentioned was that the headphone jack is placed there so you can easily plug in a well-placed microphone
Still not beating my 2 year old Lumia 1020. That camera has built-in phone features. xD
I second that motion
Yeah
Didn't Samsung do this a few years ago?
Yeah they did with their Samsung Galaxy K.
except that samsung actually had real Optical Zoom... but note as big of a sensor...
+Sorrow1994 Yeah. It was also a bit more bulky. But the camera was definitely better for long-distance shots.
yes
nokia did it before samsung...41mp camera and it's really nice but the os sucks so much that nobody cared about it
I just love how he's always kinda saying things to Jack, without him actually responding. Kinda makes it feel like he's talking to his own alter ego. Really epic. Love this channel, man.
It looks like a graphics card.
You look like a graphics card
ty
Haha. Too many freckles to be a Titan X. And the dick's too small. Maybe a 720? JK
I was about to comment same thing but saw ur comment. Camera looks like gpu fan and the machine looks like Nvdia GPU
+Sasha Johnston 3dfx Voodoo3 is more like it.
taking the user manual to bed as your reading before you went to sleep? .. you are born to be a reviewer. cheers!
You have same kind of G-SHOCK wristwatch as I do. Mine is almost 18 years old watch. Still running great.
+Aragnath Black do you know the specific name?
reminds me of a Sony Ericsson phone i still have
My favorite phone of all time will always be the Sony Ericsson K800i, damn did I love the xeon flash and cybershot on that thing. Cameras on Sony Ericsson phones sure have gone a long way DOWNHILL since then.
P1i ???
I have: W302, W880i, W910i, K550i, K550im, Z800. Had: K300i, K350, K800, K810i. Spiro, W610, W950, P900, P910. For me, Sony Ericsson made the best
@@MirceaD28 I have c510, a lesser known model from SE, still going like it was bought yesterday after 9 years of usage.
it resembles the galaxy camera which was released by samsung a few years ago.
yep
Haha that was what i was thinking watching this!!
+Brandon M luv your profile pic
+Mandeep Baweja the galaxy camera was a lot more elegant than this one though
Wyvern thanks :)
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!
I've tried the samsung smart cameras and they just aren't up to par for me. I'm EXCITED!
Great video as always. Keep it up.
Have you guys not heard of the Samsung Galaxy Zoom? I think they only did a S4 and K version (2013 & 2014), but it has a zoom lens rather than a fixed lens
but the sensor on Samsung Zoom .... well, you know the answer.
FYI , ASUS Zenfone zoom has done a better job than Samsung, the size is way smaller!
have you heard about Nokia 808 Pureviev [2012]
+Milot Morina I think you're missing the point of the Zoom - it has an _Optical Zoom Lens_, while the Pureview was just an exceptionally high resolution camera... there's a world of difference!
In which video Jack appeared ?
Serched for a while but never got a response
no
He is on Instagram
+DøFFy what is it?
he is in every video, he is the one moving the camera
For journalism the automatic upload is very useful. No more hiding your sd card in your socks if you are worried that someone might take your camera from you to delete the image.
Bah only 15fps 4k video, what a waste, hope they update it with a Snapdragon 820.
+TechTablets.com Lol I watch your videos all the time
It's basically one of those Smart Samsung Cameras but with a Phone app and a cell radio.
+Shane J. McEntee Better than a Samsung smart camera and this is more similar to a 2005 Sony camera phone.
Nokia 1020 still is the best looking phone that could carry a camera bump well!
rip having this in your pocket

They need to do this with a good flagship phone, skip the 3 or 4 or 5 cameras with weird distortions, put ONE sensor with actual zoom lens like this one and make the sensor have like 500 megapixel or something, if you can put 108MP in a tiny sensor then you can defo put more in a bigger one. Or make it possible to shoot 8K video.
Imagine Pokémon go AR on that thing
+ozzygeo OOOOOOOH REKT HIS FACE
+ozzygeo xD
Thank you all for your input. I bet both you and I both benefited from this wonderful conversation. *slow clap*
I'll stick with my potato
+PaulTheGamer it sure does
I just got it at I am so happy with it! It is mainly a camera that can take photos, but that is 100% what I wanted
fun fact android was originally intended for use as a camera smartphone.
SO it's a camera with a phone built in? Sweet
I saw one of these in a pawn shop I was like NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE and instantly googled it,as an amature photographer and smartphone lover I want one.
Lumix vs s7 Battle📸 please
S7 had no chances at all.
The video is a bit too dark, isnt it?
IT'S A 4 DOLLAR PHONE
Rad Domino what?
+Rad Domino its a 600 dollar, stupid
+Tobias Dettinger its because of the light thats shining behind it so the camera recorded a lot darker
Brian Li yeah. Maybe he should check the final video.
Honestly, with so few near-stock android phones out right now, coupled with some really nice shots....... this is appealing to me a lot more than I would have expected.
No joke i had never seen one of these product before but i was thinking what if apple made product just for there camera
Their
+wrestling panda they did years ago. Had about 2 megapixels.
+wrestling panda apple uses sony camera
apple is bad... end of
i honestly think 4k is being overhyped
Joaquin Gaute fair enough, i'll be sure to check one out
4k only helps if your screen is large enough and depending on your distance from the screen. on an 80 inch 4k (assuming it's 16:9 uhd) you'd get ~55 dpi or ppi (dots per inch or pixels per inch) which means from about 5 feet you wouldn't be able to see any pixels. on a 1080p 80 inch screen (in 16:9) you'd have to be 10 feet away to get that kind of clarity.
it just means you can see more screen without seeing pixels. in cameras this is nice too cause you can crop in, like he said digital zoom works fine cause you can zoom in to a 1080 size photo, where other cameras zooming that far would end up at like 480 or something really small and blurry.
Did anyone else see the thumbnail and think someone finally invented a rotary cell phone? I died a little when I found out it wasn't.
Looks like a gaming graphic card
2:05 wow i had a new drone and I did the same lol
xD imagine you in the bus with that phone talking and the people: wtf why hes talking with a camera -._-. .-. xD
William Hak
Ricardo Avila Lol
This is the only smartphone right now that can take an external lens with lens diameter of 37mm or longer with a step ring. I can forgive the lack of Xenon flash and OIS for that mad yet wonderful feature! ❤
There is a reason why this camera wasn't so successful.
Most people ignore the importance of lenses. Unfortunately the sharpness, the chromatic aberration, the barrel distortion, contrast, lens flare and other lens characteristics can't be calculated accurately. However they are vital for the quality of photos.
There are some sites like dxomark which are using their own results which aren't widely acceptable.
The sensor size and MPixels can be calculated and are important as long as they are combined with a good lens.
With most lenses the size counts. A incredibly expensive expensive exception are the lenses for Leica M mount.
Smartphones no matter how big they are can't accept big lenses. Even mirrorless cameras which are much smaller than dSLRs have lenses many time bulkier than their size.
This camera obviously with its big sensor has an advantage on high ISO noise but its lens is unavoidably equal to the worst new lenses for dSLRs. That doesn't mean that it hasn't the best camera between smartphones.
Smartphones are trying with the exceptional Nokia 1020, Samsung Galaxy Zoom and Panasonic CM1 to hit the mirrorless - dSLR market like they have done with the compact cameras. Simply isn't an equal mobile phone alternative to a mirrorless or dSLR camera.
This camera/phone was never intended to be mainstream and sell lots of units. It was successful if you figure Panasonic only made a limited number of phones and has sold almost all of them. Prime lenses can be made much smaller than zoom lenses without losing image quality. In tests the lens on the CM1 has been found to be only slightly inferior to other point-and-shoots that use the same size sensor as this phone. Even if there is a loss in quality it's still leagues ahead in image quality compared to other camera phones. Very small lenses can be made without sacrificing much quality, if done properly.
Happy Birthday To Me 😀🎉
6⃣6⃣6⃣
XD
+yotoprules lol
Happy birthday btw
Death
Thought the camera would have more megapixel to it. The one I have now has a 24mp camera and shoots and records 4K pictures at 30fps. Though it's only at 1/2.3" sensing. Has designated camera button for quick access and holding it down takes 20 picture burst... And at half the price of this. They defiantly could have done way better.
+unbox therapy
I'm rocking the pixel xl and loving it. Are you still using the pixel as well?
1440p and this is why I love this channel... crispy clear flawless video... this guy is a great reviewer and u can tell he loves his job... he's awsum... one of my fave top reviewers... oh BTW that camera phone is too fat and ugly... I wouldn't buy it personally since the phone is too small... I need 5.5" screen the least and 6" at most... this is way too fugly for me sorry...
glad you did this one. I've been looking for a device that will fulfil my stills camera/phone needs in one piece of equipment... better start saving.
This item is no longer manufactured, right?
Mr Cee Yep
This Panasonic + Beastgrip 3x Tele Conversion Lens + Ulanzi Smartphone Metal Rig + RODE Microphone + LED Video Lights = Mobile videography perfection! ❤
Don't suggest me any iPhones or Pixels, I'm not falling for it.
One downside of this phone is that it can only shoot 4k 15fps despite having a snapdragon 801 chipset that is capable of 4k 30fps which is sad
I thought it was a camera review...
570$ Fucking rediculous.
329€
+Christian Meyer Rm 5000
thats not as bad of a price tag when you compare its price to the iphone and the galaxy s7
yep,sad it has only digital zoom.
that one with optical zoom i would get it
its neat
+micheals daniels
well, it does have worse specs than those two. it might have a better camera (which actually isn't that likely, as they both take good photos), but you're only paying for the camera on this phone.
“It extends a little bit. It’s not huge.”
-What she said.
the video starts at 0:00 and ends at 5:21 thank me later
haha thx helped me a lot
you shouldve filmed the video with the phone cuz its only 720p the phone must have 1080p or something.
Anshul_SpideyFan wuttt
Anshul_SpideyFan Only if your phone doesn't support higher res than 720p, my phone is playing it in 1080p as it's my phone max res.
That's what you get for having an iPhone lol (I'm assuming you do cuz I don't know any phone sub 200 dollars that has a 720p screen)
Lee Cason i dont have iphone lel
Lee Cason Nokia lumia 635...
I wish they didn't add the mechanical part of the lens of the zoom is digital. Is that for autofocus? Makes it harder for cases or attachments which could add professional lenses and still take advantage of larger sensor.
If you want a smartphone with a giant camera , make an unboxing of the Samsung Galaxy KZoom :v
Since when 1/2.3" sensor became huge in front of 1" sensor?
still nokia lumia 1020 kicks it's ass
yeah! 1020 is always better
Wow that looks fast. 1inch sensor is good. Panasonic should bring their 4K photo too. It will be 15fps on this but 8mp.
Notification squad
Out here
did anyone see that wooden PS4?
No.
yup .me
Mohammad Malik its a skin
re:
Lesley Harrys - the op disabled comments - further to our discussion, the OIS does really help the 1020 perform really well at night time. And it has pureview zoom solution - so it actually makes use of those extra megapixels. If a cm1 was a true camera solution, it would also need some type of zoom. Also that lens - without a cap/case is gonna get scratched easily. If you are talking solely about sensor size - why not buy a decent fixed lens camera - get a ricoh gr which has a aps-c sensor, nearly twice the size of the cm1!! btw read your full comment..... i'm not delusional, just not a fanboy which you seem to be
That's Android 4.4 not 5.0 lol
I'm pretty sure that's a graphics card....
Nvidia GTX 1080 lmao
try using open camera. it can fill in the missing options for the phone/camera
cool idea but too ugly.
GTA Clips o.
hi eddy
That's how companies recycle old digital cameras.
I was curious about the specs, and learned that it uses a Snapdragon 801 paired with 2GB RAM.. Putting it roughly on par with Samsung GS5/HTC One M8 performance-wise. A newer version with an 820 and 3-4GB RAM would help out with the 4K capture a lot.
You are pro man!!
Love you over acting sort of thing...
Great elaboration skil you have... ❤❤❤
A fan of you from Pakistan😊😊
Thanks for this dude! I tweeted about this phone to MKBHD a few weeks ago after stumbling upon it. Glad someone I follow covered it.
It would be pretty fun to see a micro four thirds camera with smart phone functionality.
imagine changing the lenses on your phone. That would be a product I'd be interested in if they could somehow make it pocket-able without a lens or just with a basic pancake lens.
On the back of the wristwatch it says DW-6900 and there is also a box with 1449
why would you take the screen protector off?
Could always go for the Lumia 1020, same idea but more of a phone then camera. Rocking a 41MP camera with Physical Stabilization it takes outstanding photos. Iv used the 1020, 1520, and now 950XL and all three take amazing video and photos, I love the 950 more though, fast pictures, videos in 60FPS, 4k, etc etc
Those on the edge of getting one, do it. Used on B&HPhotoVideo for pretty cheap. Get the Photo Mate R3 software that will process the RAW images in full resolution with all the controls you need (Adobe Lightroom works at 1/4 resolution).Fantastic images once processed. Biggest take away is the shear size of the images. Levels above generic camera phones with sloppy JPEG compression.
Takeaway. With filters yes other phones will match color. But the moment you blow them up or print the photos and look at the minute details, that's where this camera shines.
I love how Lew just gets calmer and calmer with every older video...
I like how you did this review, especially being able to show your excitement for the product and the concept. Thanks for sharing!
Can we please have a new version of this?
this guy makes amazing quality video, and his topic is, obviously one of the most viewed topics on the internet nowadays. But i can't get over how near perfect these videos are.
Always liked the Lumix series. Quality pocket camera's. This looks quite nice.
According t reviews, the 1" sensor holds 20 megapixels, so it should have some tolerance for digital zoom. That's a Leica lens too, (28mm, f/2.8), so very good quality. But its MSLP is $999, which is a lot for either a phone or a camera. For both... I'd still say it's pricy.
Hey Lou that is so crazy I have the exact same knife that you show in the picture from crkt I've never seen someone else have that knife... the one that swings out from the side
Been interesting to see how it handles low light situations.
But there was also Samsung K Zoom, S4 Zoom and Galaxy Camera. And they all have compact camera-like optical zoom. The galaxy camera goes to 21x even. I wonder how they compare. And also wonder how it compares with a regular flagship smartphone camera.
I want an update version of this in 2021
You didn't even try to make a call.
