Hey Sam! I've run an embroidery/screen printing shop for the last 10 years. Running 20+ heads every day. This looks like a Tajima clone, which is good. If you dont have one, get a tensioning tool. You'll need it. Your digitizing will make a way bigger impact on the quality of your sew than your machine. For flats, the green hoops are good, but magnetic hoops are an absolute game changer. Mighty Hoop makes good ones, but there are good ones that are China clones. I think the company name was Sewtech. Big recommendation for magnets. Let's you hoop over seams, zippers, ect, consistent tension... If you're using Rayon thread, white can tend to break often. It's just a thing. A polyester thread is a little more robust. Saves you a lot of headache with thread breaks. Man. Theres so many things lol. I'm excited for you! Keep it up.
I ran a sporting goods business in the 90's and had a Tajima embroidery machine, sold it when we closed the store, man do I miss that machine, it was Awesome!
Nice job… we are three years into starting an embroidery business… I digiatize also ( I was a graphic designer for 27 years) we have been doing farmers markets weekly in our area
That is awesome! Do you use Hatch or another software? I am in a trial with Hatch but want to make sure I get the best & correct software to make my life easier! Buy once, cry once...
Ohhh neat. Especially since you showed it off as a new person. I looked into these about 3 years ago and just got lost in all the different models and types.
Great stuff Sam!!! I got a brother machine to tinker around with embroidery recently and its pretty fun as a hobbyist to use. Still figuring out if I would want to invest into a big machine like this. Thanks for the highlights. Can't wait to see what else you make!
Awesome, I am inspired by so much that you do. You need to make a display case for your FIRST HAT. 20 years from now you can look back at it and be inspired all over again.
For digitizing yourself and your first time stitching one, that looks great! In the future, caps will work and stitch better if you digitize the design to stitch from the center out. GREAT video showcasing this machine! Best of luck in your new embroideryendeavors!
I hope this will help you!! I found that when you use fsbric like towels and fabric for quilting, you cand use different stabilizers but try using wash out when you know something is going to be washed!!!
That’s a great addition to your offerings. Thank you for the demo…not something I’ll be doing but it’s so interesting to see how this all is done. Good Luck with your new product line.
I just got your video. I wish you the best in your business adventures. I am a home embroiderer...not a business. I have enjoyed this for many years. Good luck. I look forward to traveling along with your business adventures.
Sam you might explore this option for your practicing designs. I use cheap muslin fabric. It’s cheaper than the stabilizer. I use 1 layer if I get a mid price range and I use 2 layers if I get the cheapest. If you can get the wide back muslin, like 90” or 108” then it is cheaper still per sq inch. 😊I iron out creases and might starch it first. For something like the towel in this video I will put fusible that you iron on in the back of where I want the design. I like Pellon SF101. I usually cut it a little bigger than I need and if it shows through after the embroidery I will use a warm iron on the back, get it heated up, and then you can peel the excess off.
What a cool machine. The price actually shocked me and in a good way. I assumed when you got to price that it was going to be in the 10 grand + range. This is definitely going to put your business to a true print on demand business as far as custom work in almost any media. Lanette and I are so happy for you guys
Most machines of this size and feature start at $10k, so you're exactly right on this price being a nice surprise. It was a big consideration factor for me.
@@Samcraftcom do you do custom requests on a SamCraft hat. I’m a Tampa bay Buccaneers fan so a black cap with red SamCraft on front and American flag on the side
Great idea for you to add to your work shop. Looks fairly simple to operate. You should set the woods on fire with this machine. Should be having a lot of orders to come from it. Don't be whining when they come in and you find yourself inside while Ashley is outside playing with the boys. lol
really interested to see the current digitisation process, 30yrs ago I wrote cad software for an industrial embroidery machine company (16 head?), in those days the designs had to go out to a punch tape roll as the embroidery machine worked off punched tape 😂, it was really interesting writing code to generate stitch patterns, entry exit points, stitch density from scanned images and fonts, lost touch when I left so would love to see that it's leaped on from that now.
Back in the 80's my dad had a company that sold knitting machines (they made narrow elastics, one of his bigger customers was Leggs). The company who made those machines came out with something similar, one of the first 'computer' embroidery machines. If I remember correctly the thing used almost like a punch-tape for the designs, so these things have come a LOOONG way since then, lol.
Man, you loading the spools brought back a ton of memories, lol. My brother made creels for the machines my dad sold, and I'd help with loading those things for testing the machines when they were uncrated after overseas shipping (machines came from Italy if I remember correctly). My dad was the only US-based importer for Comez corporation, so we pretty much imported any of those machines that were in the US at the time.
So glad that this video popped up on my feed because I was just looking into this machine and researching about it. Thank you so much for sharing. You got me as a new subscriber.
I'm new to embroidery, but have been LOVING this machine! It's opening up an entirely new world of opportunities for my business! I'm close to 500,000 stitches on the machine and have had zero issues that weren't user error or settings related. This machine seems great so far!
Oooh, you're in for a learning curve! There is a lot to know about machine embroidery and you have a fine machine to make it happen. If you haven't considered a digitizing software, I can't say enough good things about Hatch. It's more intuitive than others I've used. Not to mention that they offer monthly payments...because all good digitizing software is pricy. Makes it possible for the software to pay for itself immediately.
Thanks for the tips! I am a week into my trial of Hatch and spending most of my time going through their academy to learn properly as much as I can. :)
I love my embroidery machine I do need another one this might be a good one to look into. Thanks for showing it off I’m sure you have found out already hats need to be digitized inside out and bottom to the top. Mainly inside out. Ive been doing embroidery for about 3 years now and that a huge part of my tshirt business. I have some really good videos on my channel here. I have a ricmoa but most will transfer over to what you got. Again thanks for your insight.
Impressive!!! I’m drooling because my machine is a 6 needle. I often exceed (by far) 6 colors. That’s a lot of thread changes. I think my hubby’s in trouble! 😂😂. Congratulations on entering the addiction of embroidery and digitizing. What digitizing program do you use??
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I have been looking and wanted to buy an embroidery machine smart stitch comes with so many accessories that you would normally have to buy separately and I love Facebook and the customer support. I am sold I will be saving up to buy this machine and I like that I can buy it from Amazon. thank you so much good luck with your endeavors.
The lasers are very clean in their dust and fumes thanks to my extraction system. The CNC and any other traditional woodworking tools aren't, though. I'm considering moving them to the old workshop and letting it be a more dirty environment. Between the three main avenues (laser, CNC, embroidery) the CNC work has been the least active.
Interesting. How long does it take to a hat similar to the one you did at the end? Does the color changing significantly take longer to complete?(like 2 or 3 colors)
The hat was done in about 10 minutes if memory serves me correctly. Color changes are automatic and very quick -- negligible on total run time per project really.

Hi Sam - Just wondering if you settled on Hatch for digitizing or found a better program? I own a small t-shirt business and am looking at adding embroidery to my services.
