Brett - love your work brother, and thank you so much for having Mark on the set - he’s an incredible guitarist and an all round good guy! What’s a fantastic clean tone he had to!
Man, I wish youtube was around when I was in my 20’s. Getting my fingers to move fluidly now is painful. lol. Awesome pros like you guys take the time to teach/show how things are done. Turntables and Vinyl albums took months.
I met Mark at NAMM a few years ago, and he is such a great guy. They tell you to never meet your heroes, but Mark is totally someone you want to meet if you get a chance. I also met Brett at the same NAMM, and he was awesome too!
Van Morrison’s guitarist (throughout the classic 70’s material) was John Platania. Quite tasty and excellent rhythm guitar. Check out the amazing “Too Late To Stop Now” live album (and the Vols 2, 3, etc that came out decades later). The whole band is killing. Horns, and a string quartet! The “Caledonia Soul Orchestra”
I couldn't help but think of - rhythm & feel -- as Mark was playing and teaching. The former can be taught, but the latter? That’s a player’s inherent musicality, what connects and unites rudder and keel. And I think it’s the inherent musical alchemy that certain players come to the table with which is most often the piece that students can't articulate. They see and hear themselves playing the rhythm (playing whatever) while wondering simultaneously, why they aren't hearing ‘exactly’ what they want to hear, what they expect to hear, when they put the work in? All that is to say -- the best instructional lessons always seem to make the seemingly ineffable, clear. Thank you both for that. Lastly, I’m not saying that years, and playing, and learning -- can’t help a player to develop a stronger feel. It can. But I think it’s also important to be honest with students about the part that innate (nature plus nurture) musical blessings play. Thank you both again for this useful lesson, and may all your comments be kind.
Awesome as always Brett! I love watching Mark when he builds loops. It’s so inspiring to actually see his build take place and hear and see his phrasing and approaches. Definitely gonna purchase his course.
Hey Brett, it was Hugh McCracken playing guitar on 'Brown Eyed Girl'...also on Steely Dan 'Hey Nineteen' rhythm on 'The Thrill is Gone' a bunch of John Lennon stuff and much more. Great player...
Brett, your videos and guests are awesome. They’re incredibly informative. Mark is amazing if you could make other videos with him it would be incroyable (en français).Merci .
From one Brett to another.. I was a little hesitant to buy the course because i wasn’t sure what kind of platform you have for your lesson content. If its going to be easy to navigate etc and would like to tell you im very pleasantly surprised at how well your lesson platform is setup. I have a Truefire membership and i think the Mark Lettieri lesson is one of the best ive ever seen as far as things you’re actually gonna use in the real world of music. Also ive been watching you build this little business for awhile and your playing has come a long way as well as your content. Good on you Brett. You’ve earned much respect from me. continued success my friend! Ps sorry for the gushing comment but i am very impressed so i had to let you know. Cheers!
Chris Michie, died at 55 in 2003. Ya know, the greatest thing about the internet is that anyone can say anything to anyone anywhere. It’s also the worst thing about the internet. Let me use this power to point you two at Barry Harris and his musical innovations. Please please please look up the 6th diminished scale and his overarching theory behind it. It opened up SO MANY musical doors for me. Robbie Barnby or the Things I’ve Learned from Barry Harris UA-cam channel have tons of great videos as well as the footage of the man himself. Love both youz guyz!
This is so much more important than the 6 million "how to solo" guitar videos on youtube... this IS guitar playing
Mark is amazing!
Funk / R&B / Soul / Gospel guitar is totally under represented on UA-cam. Mark is absolutely phenomenal.
Yes and yes!
It really is. Check out tasty guitar. That guy is the real deal too.
Because it’s inferior to other genres
These "vocabulary building" videos for intermediate / advanced players are real gems! I plan to come back to this frequently :)
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Why would anyone be mean to Mark? I know it’s the Internet but he’s the guy right now for a reason.
Just keep it coming, Mark. You’re rad.
This lesson and your Kirk Fletcher literally are like gold to me. So much to learn and just refresh on. Thank you!!!
Glad you like the lessons Michael! Thanks for watching!
Yes, I also have all the courses by Lettieri and Fletcher on BP, they are gold dust.
Awesome! Thanks Brett and Mark.
Sure thing!
NIce Voicings, salutes from Brazil
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it!
Brett, you have been getting some cool guys on your channel lately. They have shared lots of little tricks and gold nuggets. Keep up the good work.
Will do Peter. Thanks for tuning in!
Mark is right, learn both the funk style and the soul, rnb style. Then you really have the sauce
Agreed!
Wow, loved it! Don't even know how I got here, but so glad I did. THANK YOU!

It's part of the new course he just released.

Good remembering Mark! Breezin' was big hit for George Benson, written by Chicago's own Phil Upchurch!
Upchurch played on it but it was written by Bobby Womack
Unity is the power of music .... Happy to watch your awesome video 😍
Yep. Thanks for watching!
Great topic! Love that type of guitar playing. Thanks!
Sure thing!

Unique take on guitar for me. Can't wait for the youtube channel. Will help me brake out the CAGED system.

Hey that's the new PRS "Fior" !
Yeah that is Mark's signature guitar.
Man, I want that Fiore!
It is a great guitar!
Absolutely killing it with these Vids Brett. I'm missing the Front Lip Folicul Fountain a bit though if I'm honest.
Haha! Thank ya. Glad to hear you are enjoying the vids!
That's sweet PRS I haven't seen one in that configuration I'm afraid to ask what series probably way above my pocketbook
It's called a Fiori I believe. It is Mark's signature model. Not sure on the price.
Cool chops.
Mark has them for days!
Eric Gale, Hugh McCraken and Al Gorgoni played on guitar on Brown Eyed Girl.
Brett is Mark's new course a Soul Funk R&B Rhythm course? If it is I will purchase it immediately. Got all the blues and rock
It's kinda everything under one roof. It is a course with all his major influences. He is coming back soon to do another course in that style.
That prs is just umm umm ummm, really great sounding ax
Totally! Fantastic guitar!
E to F#m jam reminds me of the song Cruisin’ by Smoky Robinson.
you are the man Mark I really dig your playing!
I like the playing, the explaining, and the joking. Not sure I have anything else to say.
Glad you liked it! More coming soon!
Anyone know the model/name of the PRS Mark is playing here?
Found it its called the Fiore
Yes its his signature model.
@@BrettPapa Looks incredible. Great lesson! Thank you
Eric Gale on the George Benson and Van Morrison

Take refuge in knowing that the scoffers aren't ever going to be where you are Mark.
Haha I don't think he stays up worrying over them!
Is the PRS MRAK PLAY HIS SIGNATURE PRS ?
Yes. Fiore.

Brilliant video - question - is this actually Steve from Stranger Things playing guitar? Asking for a friend ;-)
Lol
Ooops Mark
Tasty
Thanks for watching!
UA-cam needs more “boat funk”
For sure!
The Fiore sounds light years better than the Fender, or is it his impeccable playing?
Those guitars sound great. PRS did a really great job with that one and it doesn't hurt to have Mark's hands lol!
