@@woodravenoutdoors1084 when I was a kid my dad would take me and my 3 brothers and sister out ice fishing at Vanderbilt park. He made these tip downs out of 1 inch thick x 2 inch wide wood put a nail in the center and he made these metal stands to put them in. Put perch rigs on them and set them up on the bay and turn us lose. 12 of them set up on the ice and when a school would come through we were running. Man that was fun. I still have 6 of his tip downs. I caught my first walleye on one 15 years ago
I'm with you. I grew up on the bay with my grandpa. We had a spud made out of a Model A axel, coffee strainers for skimmers, heavy black line, Jack's hooks that were originals and two sleds made out of old soap boxes. Our rods were pieces of bamboo with pegs to hold the line. We fished Mud Creek and Geiger Rd primarily. I remember catching them one day on 18" of ice with only one foot of water under the ice. Two at a time as fast as it cleared the bottom of the ice. I even caught some with my strainer in the hole as they followed the Russian hook up into the hole!! We carried two×twelve planks in the back of the old scout to cross pressure cracks with!!lol
@@woodravenoutdoors1084 I've lived in bay city for 53 years and I'm not sure where that is. Cement plant? Take it your'e not at the mouth and you're north of independence bridge
Great lakes steel baby. From crome to color. Nothing beats light line, long rod steelhead. Early sunrise in the background next to your favorite tributary.
Great video James, I went out last week behind the airport and caught about 30 walleye, 7 keepers 13” nothing bigger, made a video but haven’t finished editing it yet, great job fishing
