    I ended up going with a slingshot foil based on videos I seen from quite a few different channels. I know you support them quite a bit as well. I was super bummed out after just 1 month of use that a few days ago when we went to go out we seen a crack on the small back wing. We foil in a lake with no rocks or anything, the foil has never hit bottom, and its just from average use on a lake by a family that is learning and just getting started.
    Really loved the foil and the set up and had an absolute blast with it once we learned how to use it and started pumping and such, but super bummed that after only a month we already have a crack. Tried contacting to see about warranty and replacement but did not hear anything as we are from Canada and not the USA. It's a little early to tell as these things can take weeks to hear about warranty's but based on (probably) missing out the last month or two of the season I kind of wish I would of went for a Armstrong even if it is a bit more. Just so disappointing that from light use the slingshot foil cracked on us. Especially after getting to the point of being really addicted to it.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Steven,
      oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about the crack. Slingshot makes a good product and historically (past 2-3 years) I haven't heard this issue. Unfortunately I've seen it a few times recently in forums etc. I don't know if this is related to the production delays/issues during Covid or not. The Slingshot team is great from the founders (Logoz brothers) throughout the rest of the organization. I'm sure they will take care of you. Please shoot me an email at halflifet.5@gmail.com and I'll make sure you have the right people to talk to.
      My recommendation is that you document it with pictures, send in the email so it's captured and in process and continue to ride (assuming it's safe) for the remainder of the season. As you know all too well, we (me included) have about 4-6 weeks left to get after it! If you include the pictures in the email to me, I can forward that when I make the introduction.
      I'm sure this will get resolved satisfactorily. Slingshot has always taken great care of us and our Half-Life nation members. That said, should you decide to jump to Armstrong, I can have a foil kit to you within ~10 days.

    Armstrong foils are absolutely head and shoulders better than all else. You can say other fouls are this and that but really at the moment Armstrong is crushing it in quality and performance!!! They cost much more but you know that adage

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 роки тому +2

      Hi James - thank you for checking out our video - we really appreciate it. The Armstrong design, manufacturing, tolerances, fit, etc are absolutely top notch - we agree. That said - different foils have different attributes (one of which is cost) which will fit with different people based upon their budget and desired foil disciplines (wing, windsurf, kite, prone surf, sup foil, wake foil). We have been very impressed with Armstrong and absolutely love to ride the foils for both prone foil surfing and wake foiling.

    Another fantastic video. I’m looking for a new kite foil. I have the LF impulse and love it for foiling in waves. I wonder which Armstrong wing is close to the LF Impulse.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Robin - Thanks for the kind words and for checking out our video. I've ridden the Impulse behind the boat -- but NOT kitefoiling. On the first wave, I would put the responsiveness in the general category of the Armstrong 1200, Slingshot 68cm. That said (at least behind the boat), the Armstrong foil is more lively and feels more solid due to it's all carbon setup.
      I had an absolute blast riding the LF Impulse -- as you may have seen here --ua-cam.com/video/pWDcVoQ1tns/v-deo.html
      Kiting is a different beast than behind the boat however. I'd suggest that if you've come up the curve with the LF and are ready to progress, that it's time to look at full carbon solutions from Ride Engine, Armstrong, and MFC. If you'd like, I can connect you with a Half-Life OG who is a great foil kiter. Where are you located, and where do you typically kite foil?

    Nice video! How's the 1200 treating you behind the boat? Different speed? Wake size?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 роки тому +1

      The 1200 is unbelievable - we'll post that video a bit later this week. We are staying same boat speed behind the boat - typical wake surf wave (but we're mostly on the second wave). It's fast, stable, and super responsive. Very fun to ride. For wake size, we like to ride with full ballast to maximize the wave.

    • @johnanderson4561
      @johnanderson4561 4 роки тому +1

      The 1200 is awesome! Ability to make sharper carves and turns. I would also add higher top speeds. The smaller wings will handle much higher speeds. All foils eventually ‘top out’ once they reach their max speed. To test this just hold the rope in clean water and increase speed. Eventually the foil will become unstable because the foil itself is suffering through turbulence created by the foils own water displacement. This will be at much lower speeds on larger foil sizes. One exception may be with ‘high aspect’ shapes but that is an entirely different discussion.
      You need to be more precise with pumping to account for less lift but you gain higher speed with the efficiency. Absolutely unbelievable on the first wave. The 1050 is faster and tighter than the 1200.

    "shorten mast and fuselage".... Are you talking about surf foil, wing foil, kite foil, etc?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Miguel -- I'm not sure of the specific part of the video you're referring to but perhaps it's when we're talking about prone surf.
      For prone surf foiling, sometimes you'll go with the shorter mast to help manage shallower waters (reef etc). That also can increase the immediacy of reaction from foot to foil.
      For Kite and Wing -- you wouldn't want to shorten the mast due to breaching potential.
      Shortening the fuse across disciplines increases the 'twitchiness' of the foil for lack of a better term. It becomes very loose and responsive. It can be fun across disciplines. The downside is that pumping becomes a bit more difficult with the shorter fuse.
      Does that answer your question?
      If not - please feel free to email us at halflifet.5@gmail.com

      Hey Scott! What boat are you riding behind? The 1550 is great for your weight assuming that you have a decent wave. The 1850 is a bit more advanced from a rider perspective. What is your level of experience? By the way -- did you know you could buy Armstrong through us? That way you support the channel, the stoke, and you get a Half-Life nation discount!

      @@kurtbrown9618 What a great boat! At your weight and that boat you will LOVE the HS1250. For beginner - just intermediate I would recommend the HS1550. That said - the HS1250 absolutely rocks. The HS1550 is more stable (but still more performance oriented than the CF series). It carves nicely and is a great place to start. The HS1250 picks up the mid aspect design, it is looser and faster than the 1550. So beginner/intermediate HS1550. Intermediate+ HS1250. You should own both!

    Your videos are inspiring and have definitely helped me to become wireless behind our boat. I'm riding a 4'10 Armstrong board with 1600 wing; this setup is for the goal of someday prone surfing. In the meantime, I need a shorter board for behind the boat. What size Slingshot might you recommend for a 6' 4" plus rider, 190 lbs. Loved your video foil-crossing Elliot Bay, just Epic!

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Jeff! Thank you so much for checking out our videos. Hopefully you're a subscriber now and follow us on Instagram @halflifet.5
      Love the goal of prone surfing - you'll love it and the time behind the boat will all pay dividends. What boat are you riding the 1600 wing behind? At 6'4" are you finding the 4'10" length to be what you're comfortable with but are looking for a thinner board with less volume? OR do you want something smaller. Did you consider the Armstrong 3'11"? It's a great board (we can order this for you if you want one).
      Another great option is the Liquid Force Galaxy AK 4'2" board. If you want to go shorter - those are good options. Our friend 6'3" enjoys the WF-1 from Slingshot (featured in a lot of our videos) but that only saves you ~4" of length from where you are now.

    • @jeffg8243
      @jeffg8243 4 роки тому +1

      @@HALFLIFEVIDEO Yes indeed, I am a subscriber. I am riding behind an Axis T23 and very comfortable with the 4'10" Armstrong--very stable. I would like a slightly shorter board to make pumping easier and more efficient. After seeing you guys pumping for miles on the Slingshot deck with Armstrong foils (WF-1 maybe 4' 6"), I was intrigued how this board or perhaps the Armstrong 4'5" deck would pump. I had not considered the Armstrong 3'11" because I am tall. I thought the 3'11" length would be too sensitive for me; I am sure the stance is the same but not much board beyond the front foot. rackis probably not needed behind the boat.
      Found out too late about your Armstrong demo event otherwise we would have made the trip over; we're on the Eastside. I got my Armstrong setup last Spring through RealWaterSports with the 2400 and 1600 wings. They tried to tell me to get the 1550 instead of the 1600; I should have heeded their advice but am having fun on the 1600 (thought the HS wings at that time would be too much for a newbie foiler). The 2400 was great for learning other than it wants to fly at literally 3mph. Besides wanting to prone foil, I want to wing foil as well. The 2400 should be good for light wind days wing foiling for the future. The 1550 and 1850 look like a blast from you videos. If I pick up anything else this summer, I will order you.
      Again, all your foiling videos have seriously helped me progress. As well, your videos are a blast--well done!!! Many thanks, Jeff

      @@jeffg8243 Thanks so much Jeff. If you want to come out and demo the 1550 and 1850 to see if they're right for you - let's set it up.
      Board length - it's hard for me to say given I'm only 5'11" but I do think it would work for you. We're about to put in an order so let me know if you'd like us to order you one.
      Ultimately - the pumping is part board....but a huge part wing. We can pump that 1850 on the old WF-2 slingshot board we have as well. Wing + technique are the biggest factors. The board helps for sure but isn't the primary driver IMHO. T23 is a killer boat.
