  • Here are answers to questions we receive at motorcycle drop guards related to slow speed motorcycle training and developing clutch control on your motorcycle. Many riders have trouble understanding how to develop clutch control on their Harley Street Glide, Harley Road Glide or Harley 2023 CVO. Clutch control made easy talks about developing slow speed motorcycle skills quick and easy without excessive wear and tear to your motorcycle. Some motorcycle riders will preload their throttle with rpm's prior to clutch engagement which has been seen in videos to cause the clutch to smoke. Many motor officers will often use high rpm's while the clutch is not fully engaged which doesn't allow the clutch plates to move in relation to the amount of throttle engagement being raised against a partially engaged clutch handle. This has caused many officers to burn a motorcycle clutch and to heat the rotors and the rear brakes of their Harley Davidson motorcycles. Learning how to Ride Like a Pro doesn't have to take years to master, and excessive wear and tear doesn't t have to be incurred with proper clutch control throttle engagement. And the fear of dropping your motorcycle can be taken out and removed with the use of motorcycle drop guards allowing a rider to concentrate on the skills and not the fear of the drop.

    Great job showing an alternative to rev'ing bike and wearing parts out. Can you do a vid with 2 up using low throttle ?

    Love your drop guards…have them on my Indian Springfield…have dropped my motorcycle several times practicing turns from a stop (handlebars turned while stopped). The guards have worked as advertised…no damage to the bike…I just touch-up the guards with black paint…and voila…they look great! Thanks for helping us neophyte “slow speeders” loose the fear in dropping and damaging our bikes!

      More and more folks are seeing how well the motorcycle drop guard work to protect their bikes and so many riders are actually training now. Plus most other riders dont even notice them on the bike. Its very cool to see civilians actually learning to ride with advanced skills after years of laying their bikes down instead of learning to stop them with advanced braking skills. Train hard, Ride safe!

      Where did you get your drop guards from?

    With my bike I can roll on the throttle a little, and let the clutch out pretty much at the same time as she grabs right away. I do not have a lot of play area from the grip to where my friction zone is. Sometimes that is a good and bad thing depending on what I am doing.

    Hey Jay, Love your no nonsense way of teaching. I've been riding for 50 years and been coast to coast on my S glide, but I still need a hell of a lot more practice on slow speed control. Here's my stupid question. With the front engine guards and rear saddle bag guards on, by adding the drop guards do the motorcycle drop guards give added protection to the bike or are they protecting the front and rear guards from being scuffed up ?

    • @motorofficertraining
      @motorofficertraining  Рік тому +2

      They protect the functionality and appearance of the front and rear bars, first from damage so the bars will be ready do their job as intended. Other benefits are skills development, primary protection, etc. Train hard, Ride safe!

    @motorofficerskilltraining In my effort to customize my new Street Glide ST, I put custom engine & saddlebag guards on, as well as custom handle bars. All were rather expensive, but the engine guards are 2" diameter, kind of a bat wing shape, very expensive and no drop guard protectors will fit/mount/work to protect them. So, knowing that I will most likely damage both front & rear guards, has me not practicing slow maneuvers, like I want to 😩

      I would say do what you can to get the bike set up so you can practice and develop your skills. Its always safer to ride with skill and proficiency, and soooo much more fun!

    Hi Jay, I have the chrome drop guards on my 2021 Road King. They look great! 2 Questions: 1) Why remove the saddlebags- won’t the DGs protect them? (2) my RK has no fairing, do I need to worry about the handlebar grips if I drop the bike?

    Have you ever done these techniques with an Indian Challenger? I always feel like my Challenger is gonna stall if i leave the clutch open like that without throttle.😅

    • @motorofficertraining
      @motorofficertraining  Рік тому +1

      I have done them on an Indian Pursuit. The Pursuit does not have the same turn radius, and I scratched the drop guards slightly doing the u turn between 2 parking spaces. Remember the goal is to ride the bike to its limits, not the limits of other models. you can only do what you can do with what the bike will allow without damage.

    Im a new rider on a 09 sportster 1200. I have about 300 miles on it. Started going to parking lot and trying your clutch control techniques. I have a cable clutch. IS A HYDRAULIC CLUTCH EASIER TO CONTROL? Never tried a bike with a hydraulic clutch. Thanks for what you do. I appreciate it.

    • @motorofficertraining
      @motorofficertraining  Рік тому +1

      If I had to pick, I think a cable clutch is easier than a Hydraulic, IMO! But I have both, and have used both for years so it really doesn't mean much to me either way. Train hard, Ride safe!

    It scares me thinking it's super slippery like ice. Is it as slippery as I'm thinking

    I have the drop guards installed, thank you. Yes, they are a quality product. Regarding the primary case guard, it’s on the ground when I drop my motorcycle just as designed. However, I’m concerned that the fixture bolts that hold the guard secure may bend and damage my primary case. Is my fear unwarranted? Thank you!

      I make no clutch adjustments...i ride the bikes as they come. I practice on each to learn where that gray zone begins.
