6.5 Creedmore for Precision Rifle Shooting. The .308 for larger game. Overall, my interest are in the 6mm Creedmore and 6.5 Creedmore platforms. The Long Rang performance is downright scary. 🎯
I know nothing about ballistics, or hunting, or weapons, for that matter. I'm gonna take a guess and say that the 6.5 creedmore is more accurate and has more range. BUT, the 308 looks like it's gonna beat the 6.5's ass in terms of stopping power. Am I right?
I like that the overwhelming majority chose .308 as it's a common round that's been around for awhile. This was my initial choice as I am only 22 i only started shooting handgun last year i don't really have a ton of money for firearms. I'm looking for a bolt rifle. I have a few handguns , an AR shotgun(semi auto mag fed) and a Ruger 10/22. While all of these are exceptional for either hunting or personal defense, none of these in my case are capable of shooting much past 150 yards with any accuracy. I'm looking for something to step it up. Maybe an AR-15 to extend me to 300 meters. Then a bolty in .308 for some distance shooting. I'm building a collection and I have a plan in mind I'm just taking my time I'm focusing on getting a truck instead of a car right now so my priorities are on automotives instead of firearms at the moment. I'm a big gunsmith person though. I love studying ballistics.
For hunting .308. I bet shoot past 250-300yds, has a little more knock down power, but the main reason is availability of ammo. Every option under the sun and priced well
I’ve been using my 6.5 for hunting. Couldn’t afford a rifle in .308 so got a cheap axis in 6.5 shes been good. Taken one deer 2 hogs and a few coyotes with it.
I was leaning more to getting a .308 but the pricing was actually worse in my area than 6.5 creedmoor. Anyone else experience that or am I some kind of one in a million outlier?
Im gonna say .308 for hunting . Up to 700 yards they are both nearly identical.. most people in north america aren’t hunting farther than 200yds. 6.5 prc for plinking
308 Winchester - hunting and target- it works.. easy to get brass and bullets 💪🏻🇺🇸win win. I don’t like small diameter bullets. I hunt in brush and woods.. it makes a difference
I don't own a creedmore but i do own 6.5x55 krag and g3 in 308 jugging off those. id pick the 6.5 round for less recoil and more accurate. Any 6.5 rifle ive shot there grouping on a 10inch by 10inch peace of paper at 200 yards are just amazing. No hate on 308 though its cheaper to buy plus there's a bigger selection of guns that run it.
I would not be able to make proper choice until I give them both a chance while hunting. I believe that the 308 has more bullet weight to choose from, but until you use them on a deer I will just keep an open mind.
There both great rounds and can without a doubt be used for hunting and PS. Honestly it comes down with what you’re willing to take and willing to let go.
Load both and have used both. While the 308 has been accurate to 1200 yards for me on targets, I prefer the 6.5 creed. This is with my hand loads. The little 6.5 when loaded to its potential, in a 26" barrel has moor range with fps and energy. Within 600 both will do on Whitetail sized critters with the right bullet. The little 6.5 with a good 140gr loaded right will smack 20% gel at 900 yrds. with the right loading and bullet. Has good penetration and bullet function. Sound unreasonable? Look at Barbour Creek Shooting Academy videos of a test on gel with 6.5 creed at 900 yards. That's a long poke but just goes to show how much bullet B.C., sectional density and construction play a role.
Depends on what you're hunting. Where I'm at, there are many big game species. I'm going with .308 and have a .308 for my hunting rifle currently. If I were living in a state where black bear and whitetail deer are the biggest critters around (for example upstate NY), I would use a 6.5cm. I have used both calibers along with many other calibers, I've never noticed a difference in how unalived an animal got when it was shot with any of these calibers. Lol. For prs or I would choose the 6.5 over .308 in this scenario due to the better ballistics.
Have both Have shot lots of both 6.5 is better in almost every aspect If you just want to shoot within 800 Yards and prefer .308 fine. Price Used to be a big difference but they have evened out a lot, especially for the good stuff.
I hunted with a 308 win for years and then I bought the 6.5 creed and i don't care what anyone has to say bad about 6.5 it does everything the 308 does but better in every way I have now seen 17 whitetails taken by the 6.5 by me and my daughter and a few friends but I sold my old 308 and im not saying anything is wrong with 308 but better is better and ill take every advantage i can get 🤘
I have both and hunt with the 6.5 because when given the choice my son chose my 308. If I was shooting PRS I'd go 6.5. Little less recoil, better wind performance. 308 is still a great overall round though.
I’m going with 6.5 because of how flat it shoots as opposed to the rainbow round 308. For deer the 6.5 is a lot more pleasurable to shoot. The 308 does smack tho but if they’re both going to do the same amount of damage for the most part, 6.5 all day.
It’s honestly splitting hairs inside 300yds. Probably slight energy edge with .308, then CM takes over after that. Have taken plenty of whitetail with both 70-500yds & they’re both plenty effective.
In my opinion 6.5. I have hunted with a 308 for several years and love it. But with the better BC and less wind drift and drop from the 6.5, it is my new hunting rifle. For open/mountain range hunting.
Between the two, 6.5 because it's an easier caliber to shoot well and has a lot of hunting bullet selection tailored specifically to accuracy and high ballistic coefficients. That said, it's not as great as people think it is and you lose velocity fast with shorter barrels in the 6.5mm. Almost all factory listings for it are very optimistic at best.
.308 for long range marksmanship development. It requires more wind reading skills than 6.5 for good scores so it demands development. Also barrel life is much longer than 6.5.
Both are great I have a subsonic load for 308, my creedmore is better for long distance and has a lot less recoil. Both accurate and versatile. The haters of creedmore are just plain stupid it’s like hating the hellcat just because you have a mustang. Dumb.

6.5 Creedmore for Precision Rifle Shooting. The .308 for larger game. Overall, my interest are in the 6mm Creedmore and 6.5 Creedmore platforms. The Long Rang performance is downright scary. 🎯
Both are great
6.5
I know nothing about ballistics, or hunting, or weapons, for that matter. I'm gonna take a guess and say that the 6.5 creedmore is more accurate and has more range. BUT, the 308 looks like it's gonna beat the 6.5's ass in terms of stopping power. Am I right?
I’ve got both I use them both to hunt but my 6.5 tends to leave a thicker blood trail than the 308
Using what bullet??
308, because I only have a second hand 308 hunting rifle 😢.
Lovem’ both. Short barrel prolly .308.
Standard or longish barrel sorta tied with a nod toward 6.5.
Really hard choice….actually it’s not. 308 all day!!
Im gonna say .308 for hunting . Up to 700 yards they are both nearly identical.. most people in north america aren’t hunting farther than 200yds.
6.5 prc for plinking
I hear you, however, your personal hunting style isn't dictated by what distances "most" other people hunt at. It's your personal choice right?
308 hunting
6.5 anything prs and other hunts.
PRS Tactical division is .308 and .223 only. Most other divisions are running a 6mm variant.
Which one would you choose for 5-700 yards?
308 Winchester - hunting and target- it works.. easy to get brass and bullets 💪🏻🇺🇸win win. I don’t like small diameter bullets. I hunt in brush and woods.. it makes a difference
If I were just starting out I'd go 6.5. I kinda grew up with the 6.5 Sweden and that 6.5 sectional density is fantastic.
I have both, and i love both for, both purposes. ⚔️
308 as its a more easy to find . Both are great rounds though
I personally own both and hate both of them so many better options in either direction
I no longer have a 308, but still have the reloading dies and components for it, so would better fit me logically. And I already have a 6.5 Swedish.
6.5 cause i hate 30cal if its not 300win mag
I would not be able to make proper choice until I give them both a chance while hunting. I believe that the 308 has more bullet weight to choose from, but until you use them on a deer I will just keep an open mind.
I own both and both do the job. Its all about bullet placement and the types of bullets.
Preferably, 308 for hunting. I own both and I’m confident with both as a hunting rifle. 308 has more DRTs. PRS, 6.5 all day.
Have both
Have shot lots of both
6.5 is better in almost every aspect
If you just want to shoot within 800
Yards and prefer .308 fine. Price
Used to be a big difference but they have evened out a lot, especially for the good stuff.
308 good round and you can get it anywhere even when ammo was scares.
I hunted with a 308 win for years and then I bought the 6.5 creed and i don't care what anyone has to say bad about 6.5 it does everything the 308 does but better in every way I have now seen 17 whitetails taken by the 6.5 by me and my daughter and a few friends but I sold my old 308 and im not saying anything is wrong with 308 but better is better and ill take every advantage i can get 🤘
😂😂🤣
I have both and hunt with the 6.5 because when given the choice my son chose my 308. If I was shooting PRS I'd go 6.5. Little less recoil, better wind performance. 308 is still a great overall round though.
308 suppressed nothing else 308 it’s the most versatile round having the correct load and projectile
I consider 308 to more general purpose and that was why I went with that, and the platform is AR-10 for the same reason.
For me, 308 in bolt and semi auto for hunting and distance, but if i want to go out further, i just get the 338 lapua out of the safe.
I’m going with 6.5 because of how flat it shoots as opposed to the rainbow round 308. For deer the 6.5 is a lot more pleasurable to shoot. The 308 does smack tho but if they’re both going to do the same amount of damage for the most part, 6.5 all day.
6.5 not as flat shooting as you think. I have both. If I could only pick one , 308
@@manuelcardoso5642good choice but the 6.5 is flatter than the 308 though
I have both and both do their job, but for long range over 800 yds 6.5 cm.
It’s honestly splitting hairs inside 300yds. Probably slight energy edge with .308, then CM takes over after that. Have taken plenty of whitetail with both 70-500yds & they’re both plenty effective.
depends on what use and what being shot. eg deer , targets or hogs.
.308 cause that’s what I have. I feel no need to add a 6.5 cm.
6.5 creedmoor for both.
Both are great I have a subsonic load for 308, my creedmore is better for long distance and has a lot less recoil. Both accurate and versatile. The haters of creedmore are just plain stupid it’s like hating the hellcat just because you have a mustang. Dumb.
308 Lots more options for 30 Caliber in the USA.
308definitelyhunting
6.5 for both.
Anyone that says price and availability hasn't really paid attention to price and availability since 2010.
08! Proven performance and more bullet weight options for hunting or range!
6.5 for prs but 308 for the hunt
I hunt with a 6.5 CM and honestly I would either.
Neither, I chose 6.5PRC for everything and don't regret it
Obviously 6.5 is a superior cartridge!
just bought my first riffle last friday and ended up choosing .308 mostly cuz i pack more punch a its longer tradition.
