Yes, its probably better to start with the leg opposite to the direction you are moving (like you mentioned). It's called a "shuffle step". If you pay attention to this guys movements he actually does shuffle steps which is contrary to what he described as his slide. Not a very good instructor
@@mra2424 It's proper to move the foot on the same side that you're moving first because it actually moves your body. If you move your inside foot first it will jam you and limit how far you can move. It's not just true in pickleball, but many other sports as well, including tennis. I did a video on this step and why it's important here: ua-cam.com/video/qk0h6p6vGtU/v-deo.html
I watched you in drill #3 in slow motion and it is very clear you are moving the “back” foot, relative to the direction of movement ,first. Not as you described in the video instructions. Nevertheless, the video is still helpful with good practice drills.
I just watched a few pro videos that said it was important to move opposite leg first. Maybe it's a player preference ? Maybe I'll find some of them and link here. I'm learning and would love to get it right. I'll research more, see what the consensus is and drop it back here thx
I know your focus is to move that outside foot first but unfortunately when you were actively playing the third figure eight drill, you were actually moving the inside foot first. Whoops. Demonstration was perfect though. 😊
Those visual accents to focus the viewers attention are incredible! Great idea.
I just watched another video on this that explicitly says if moving right start with left foot and vice versa.

@@thepickleballclinic @3:58 you totally moved your inside foot first
For shuffle side to side step in the video, in order to move right, is the initial movement pushing off your left foot or pushing off your right foot?
Great lesson and drill, coach.

No offense, but almost every other player says opposite leg first. Watched a bunch of pro videos, and same. Would love your thoughts, thx
Nice video Matt!!😊😊
Do you recommend this drill only at the kitchen line? Or also at the transition zone/ baseline?
Appreciate the solid tips!
thanks
You should mention the shuffle step as well.
Nice
