- in this video we go out and try to connect to major rivers in idaho by offroad route. we fly fish both rivers and have great success in catching lots of fish. the offroad route is very tight and has epic scenery. the fuel will be very tight and I have to make a decision if I can make it.

You tube seems to be restricting comments for some reason so I think I fixed it

What weight rod are you using? I am from GA and mainly saltwater fly fish but I grew up trout fishing with a fly rod. I am building out a vehicle that is almost complete just for long camping/fishing/hunting trips from Alaska/Canada down into Mexico. I always feel like I have the wrong sized rod when I fish out west.
I am using 5wt in this video. Sometimes a 3wt in smaller streams. If your going to Alaska I would for sure have an 8wt minimum that's what I used up there. For lower 48 here in the west a 5wt is a perfect all around rod.
Avery to kelly is a fun run to lochsa
I was wondering when the first person would be to recognize the area haha. I have heard of that route, definitely I need to try it. I probably would need extra fuel than what I have to make it to lochs, although I would be cutting out a big section and more of a direct way to Kelly, I would have to run some numbers to see if I can with the xterra. Maybe I will use our jeep to make that trip. We have a crazy good range with that vehicle.
