Well, to be fair, I hear blockbuster is trying to come back with its own streaming service.
If they're good with original shows and content, they may rise back from that and nostalgia alone.
And there is technically one blockbuster left in the entire world and it's in Bend, Oregon. Which is actually not that far from where I live since I'm in Portland Oregon, and I've visited once before. And to my knowledge it's still open.
please no, not another streaming service
@@dump6302 oh God, shut up. It's like picking a TV channel. You'll be fine, Kid. You don't have to buy a subscription.
@@awphooey2u519 still an inconvenience when they buy up a bunch of shows you wanna watch, the good thing about streaming services were they were a cheaper alternative to cable, now that’s not really a thing anymore.
Like every other streaming platform. What could Blockbuster offer that is already not in the market?
If they bought, Netflix, maybe due to the same horrible management it would’ve failed.
You beat me to it👍
Yeah I don't get why these UA-camrs say it like that, if they bought Netflix before it was bigger doesn't mean it's 100% going to be as big as it is with their management lmao
My dad lives in Lebanon TN and there they have a place just like blockbuster that's still doing the same thing they also have a sun tanning booth
Fr
Having bad management is only main reason why they didn't bought Netflix
“Netflix didn’t kill blockbuster” he says as Netflix literally innovated and kept pushing forward and block buster was slow to change and when they did it was too little too late as all their customers had already gone to Netflix.
It wasn't Netflix's fault blockbuster was in debt and as he explained bad business decisions caused their demise
@@CloverPower01 main reason was due to lack of innovation, blockbuster was actually going to do a streaming service similar to netflix but a higher rank/ceo stopped it from happening
So blockbuster fault
My dad used to be a manager for blockbuster when I was a kid. He had the most successful store in the region and got invited to a conference where he told them they need to get into streaming their movies online through the internet (my dad was also a very early user of Netflix, he loves movies). They completely brushed his suggestion off and then they all started closing down.
I would have too cuz there goes the point of renting a movie Netflix was already established and would have been even harder to find the money money time to invest into full online library
Pretty much everyone that was higher in the company they just wanted to get rich quick
Damn
@@nativeoutdoors1780 Blockbuster tried doing it physically by sending you the dvd or tape and you were supposed to send it back. It just meant they were outlaying vast amounts more on stock that often got lost or damaged rather than non physical editions of the same content. It was because Netflix and even youtube started giving people access to on demand content. This video is absolute hockey.
@@simeonsimon6440 that's how Netflix first started. They sent dvds through the mail and people were supposed to send them, then they went to on demand/streaming content.
Tripped, fell, and never stood up.
_Welp, there goes my childhood._
They didn’t pass it up when they got the opportunity they really laughed💀💀💀
Goodbye Netflix, hello blockbuster
I remember hiding games way in the back so they would be there when I came back 🤣 good times miss video stores.
the other thing is they didn’t change with the times. they were determined that their system worked and would make them money, which it didnt
All i can think is in the year of 600 there was book buster
Kind of hard to imagine that Blockbuster really was *way* bigger than Netflix at a certain point. I honestly hope they come back with that streaming service idea they got. While Blockbuster wasn't a thing over here, going into stores and renting DVDs will always hold a nostalgic place in my heart.
Only a few Blockbuster remain
Blockbuster would be happy to see you again soon
POV: you live in the town of the last blockbuster
nice you live in bend right? forgot
I heard somewhere that Netflix and Blockbuster's CEOs were doing some negotiation and Blockbuster's CEO laughed in the Netflix's CEO's face
My aunt used Netflix when it was first starting and we couldn't imagine why she would do that especially since there were like 3 blockbusters within a 10 min drive from her house. Then they turned to streaming and that was bad news bears for blockbuster.
Thankfully we have a team of good people online that invested in game stop and prevented that from going out of business, I love GameStop, it’s the only place to go and get deals on games, talk with people about games rather than wasting time looking up every game I see at a store
We had a different video store in Australia, and after they closed, people would rent movies from specialised atms, but then they were removed so everybody swapped to streaming services and borrowing movies from libraries
I was born in 2007 and I remember seeing one block buster at the age of five it was a very vivid memory though
Fun Fact, There is still a blockbuster! It's in Bend, Oregon and it opens at 11:00 AM every day as of March 10th, 2022. It's the only one that remains!
It also didn’t help the fact that online streaming was starting to emerge but the higher up’s at blockbuster decided to not change
This is sad.
I never went to a blockbuster because that shit didn't even exist where I live. If it did it was a 2 hour drive. I'm 26 and never saw one I also live in extremely rural America. When Netflix first started shipping DVD's we signed up for that shit nearly instantly and it changed how my family watched movies, we've even had the same Netflix account since then.
Netflix was Blockbusters by mail
Not only was blockbuster in debt but they were leasing all of their locations. Instead of a competitor like family video that built their own stores. Didn’t have to pay rent etc. some blockbuster were leasing the same storefronts for 20+ years. They could’ve built multiple locations instead of renting for so long
Redbox was just the butterfly of blockbuster
I remember a Blockbuster theater or something like that but it was way past 2000
Blockbuster was the best!
My uncle was the president of block buster and sold out in 08 or 09 and bought another company in Colorado and that went under 10 years later and is now the regional manager of car toys for the west coast
There is one last Blockbuster location.
So management is always why a business fails
I think it was actually Redbox that killed blockbuster.
There was a city near where I live that had a block buster until I was like 3 and they never fully took the sign down
Well if blockbuster was in massive debt where the hell were they supposed to get 50million dollars to buy Netflix???
I don't gotta worry. I live in Bend, Oregon.
In my first reality we had netflix by blockbuster. Blockbuster still went other and practically fired everyone/lost all the locations but they kinda merged technically and a little “by blockbuster” was under the netflix logo, and Deadpool came out a year earlier along with mc Donald’s getting shut down.
I found a still standing sign for blockbuster near me
Blockbuster is still around
Daim i’m early nice video and good subject didn’t know about this where i live it wasn’t blocbuster but videotron there is a single one remaining ans it’s right next to where i live
it will close down soon rent a lot of movies and don't give them discs back until they shut down and then sell them for profit
@@swarshakamra6826 it will not close down soon
I remember when another kid lied about CR and I just went to both of these stores two days ago
Redbox, netflix and blockbuster getting into the online space late killed them. By the time they started doing what everyone else was already doing. With zero late fee movie limit rental, and online. They were dead.
There's only one blockbuster left, but u have to find it yourself. Good luck
"Netflix had capital" you might wanna check those sources buddy
Blockbuster was my first job. I loved it I still have tons of movies at home from when they shut down.
There still is a Blockbuster! It’s in Bend, Oregon I have went it’s a cool place
I remember reading that Netflix actually offered blockbuster a Co owner position or just to buy the company can’t remember which of the two but yeah they had their chance
If Blockbuster bought Netflix then two companies would have failed.
Blockbuster still technically exists, the only one left in the world is in Bend, Oregon in the USA.
There’s a blockbuster in my area but it’s just empty
Blockbuster got took over by New Management because somebody bought the corporation washed money through it or did some type of like scam and I got into debt that cannot get out
Blockbuster wasn't paid for a lot of what they worked on or with not to mention advertising that never happened costing them lot's and they never got donations.
Blockbuster needs a comeback they need a investment and need to create a streaming service it would be great
It was Redbox fault 🤣 and they were mor expensive than other places🙄
When I was a kid I went to blockbuster to rent out games
My local Family Video just shut down and it was very sad, luckily we got tons of free movies and games
I knew Hastings not Blockbuster.
There IS a Blockbuster around in Chicago ( I think). There was a documentary with Kevin Smith about it
I remember blockbuster sort of
Back when it was in its death throes there was one in my grandparents town
They killed itself
Where i used to go: Family Video
There's still a Blockbuster video in Bend, Oregon lol
Yep totally remember
The reason why blockbuster passed up Netflix is because they thought Netflix was gonna flop but they where wrong
Passed it up? Ooooooooofffff
Fun fact there is still one blockbuster left in the world
Yall remember that red box shi that you could rent the games n movies from? Thats what put blockbuster outta business
There's a Blockbuster in Bend.
I'd do anything for the good ol days...
We need a revive of Blockbuster
One still exists (for sure, still a franchise location apparently I'm told) in Washington I think.
Don't worry Blockbusters coming back
Now Netflix is dying.
I’m 16 and I remember blockbusters lol
actually, there is still one blockbuster around, i just forget where it is
There is still a blockbuster open somewhere
Remember "Title Wave" video/music ?
Before watching this I can confidently say Blockbuster killed Blockbuster, it was their own decisions that came back to bend them over
Congrats your the 69th comment nice
Weird thing about blockbuster is I never once got a movie form there hahaha only games
The last blockbuster is in Bend Oregon
Redbox killed Blockbuster
Nope. Blockbuster partnered with a tech company called Enron. That's what happened to their capital
Fun fact: Netflix was founded August 29, 1997
Netflix didn't kill Blockbuster, but streaming in general definitely killed video stores in general. My town used to have 3, 1 Blockbuster and 2 locally owned, but as the old folk died off or adapted, they lost their customer bases and died, like you'd expect. It's actually to the point now where most people I know don't even own DVD players anymore, except the one integrated into their gaming console. PCs don't even have disk drives anymore.
Good to know!
I remember these places and I’m only 14
Blockbuster was only in debt because of Netflix and they had the opportunity to buy Netflix before they were in debt
What 🤣🤣 I have had Netflix from DAY 1; everyone I knew stopped going to Blockbuster and switch to NETFLIX.
You could have the disk shipped to your house/apartment AND there was no LATE FEE. By “word of mouth” -> there were no Netflix commercials on TV in the DF/W area (was an office in Grapevine TX at the same time). Trust me -> Netflix quickly killed Blockbuster customer base 🧐
You could get game's and movie's at the competitors for much cheaper. Jumbo video and shop's were my go to for these things
They could have bought Netflix, yeah with what money
No it really did, I worked at blockbuster at that time
I always thought it was redbox that put blockbuster out
Blockbuster still exists in bend oregon.
Ff today Netflix is 10B in debt
BLOCKBUSTER failed because people discovered a vending machine in front of the supermarket that rented movies and games , and IT WAS OPEN 24 7 !!!! Even holidays !!!
Theres 1 remaining functioning blockbuster in Oregon
Lucky Me! I Was Today Years Old To Realize I Have A Blockbusters Copy Of The Transformers Movie!
Well there's still one blockbuster
I had extravision not blockbuster
Now Netflix its diying because there is nothing good on Netflix anymore
I didn't have blockbuster I had family video, but I feel like they're basically the same
